Are you asking like in the last 3 weeks or in the truthful way as in the last 30 years?

In all time.

I personally think we need to financially cut the umbilical cord already and let them have their own nation.

I honestly think Canada would be better off without the constant tug of war and dispute over Language.

In a sense, yes, Canada is bribing Quebec to stay in the country, but this is only because no effective system of permanently satisfying Quebecois nationalisme and the seperatistes existes. The issue of Quebec being a part of Canada is not because Quebec is a nation, but the seperatistes use nationalisme as a tool for seperatisme. A nation does not necessarily mean an independent country, Canada needs to find a way to prevent the seperatistes from using nationalisme to fuel seperatisme.

Then toss out numbers, let the residents see what part of the National Debt they will be required pay, they can not use our currency and have to print their own, get a passport to come into Canada..

But let them go. It's just a threat with no end. They would fail as a country, unless maybe France took them in, but they don't even Speak the same kind of French.

I say that before we divide Canada, we divide Quebec first.

Lets have a real vote to see how many Quebecers want to be a nation, or want to form a new province that doesn't have to put up with Quebec's crap.

The native nations have the right to stay in Canada, and any region that votes to leave Quebec should have the right to form it's own non-quebec, non-separitist province. They can campaign on the slogan " Be careful what you wish for because it's about to come true"

Great thread!

I think we've been bribing Qubec for too long!

Quebec leaving Canada is economic suicide. Big corporations will be gone from Quebec faster than you can say "oops".

We spend too much time padding Quebec on the head and slipping money in their back pocket.

Fuck'em.

I just thought of a better solution. Just round up all the Quebec Separatist and send them off to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon south of Newfoundland.

It's French territory

This is still French Territory in our waters. 8O We need to declare war.

We have been bribing La Belle Province for decades.

If the want to seperate...let them...However we will take back the land
given to them for joining. We will not allow them to use the CANADIAN
doller as their currency.( go big or stay home)

That would give them Upper and Lower Canada of old and thats it, and the rest of Canada would not be financially locked into supporting our politicians
who seem to have forgotten the rest of Canada other than Ontario.

I agree.

How is it that the Brits over looked this two hundred years ago?

Sepratists in Quebec are a minority; the only reason the Bloc wins any seats is because people know they can vote them in and get the benefit of a party that fights souly for them. Meanwhile, they can still vote NO in a referendum.

Besides, Almost all the land in Quebec is technicly the property of the First Nations. If they really think that Quebec city and a little bit of farmland can support itself... Let them go.

They didn't it was part of the Treaty of Paris. We got New France and they got to keep a little island.

Yes, Ottawa has been buying them for years, which isn't surprising since we've had so many french Prime Ministers. When someone English from outside the province ever gets in, the Quebec Liberals have managed to get them out, whether through lies, or through political pressure. The fact Harper has survived is amazing. Until the people of Canada wake up and realize this is a battle between "Us and them", we will continue to waste money on a people who truly don't care about you or I.

Scrappy @ Mon Jan 08, 2007 1:29 pm

Yep we pander to the seperatist in Quebec, most people from Quebec are wonderful people but the seperatist are the voice that never shuts up. In two years Alberta and BC will be the largest voting block, Quebec is running our of time to get all those "Special" laws passed or it won't happen. I hope Harper doesn't give them to many concessions just keep the cry babies well fed for another two years and then they shall know what the West is willing to "Put" up with. I smell Canadian Bacon.
