Hey, I'm not saying that Canada must join. I'm saying it is an option worth considering.

Wullu @ Tue Feb 26, 2008 12:13 pm

NO, IT'S NOT

The history of civilizations shows one natural law for all humanity: Unification. Once humanity were only tribes, later it changed in to clans, later in to regions, later into countries, and today we have to time of super federations.

Canada can choose between Europe and the USA. In Europe it has it routes, and will be well treated, as an equal, or even an important member thanks to its natural resources, land and biculturalism. In short: potential.

An Union with the USA will be an simple Annexation. Canada will be eaten by the USA. You want that?

This is why I am against Quebec separatism. If Quebec would leave Canada, sooner or later it would have to join it again.

Rubbish. It is not an option. It is a suicide pact.

Ehhh... China? Islam?
Canada anyway has to protect it's identity in comparison with the USA. Joining the EU would do that. for sure.

ROFLMAO.
Has it ever occurred to you that most of us would prefer America to France or Cyprus?

Hey Cong

Go after Turkey. They want in. [titanic]

stokes @ Tue Feb 26, 2008 12:18 pm

I would say NO to joining the EU because of the beauracracy and due to the distance that would create a higher cost of goods but would say yes for the following reasons:

1: More trade with countries other than the US, and we would therefore not be hurt as much by their economic choices.

2: Canada is under-populated and this would be a way to increase the size of our skilled work force.

But I don't want them in. I'm not sure for now.

Exactly. There are cons but there are pros. I think the pros are very good.

I want to preserve Canada. I don't want it to be USA north. EU is an option. Hey, you know you can leave the EU at any moment? aka. Greenland. Canada could just give a try. If it would hurt, then, bye bye! [EU]

Hey, I'm not sure myself if this is a good idea

Yes, actually.

NO! Holy crap, how can someone ask a stupid question like that.

It's not stupid. Don't you see any positive in the idea?

Brenda wrote:

If you do, you will get weird rules you cannot even dream of now,

I live in the EU... What rules?

Brenda wrote:

you pay A LOT, and you gain nothing.

Ha ha. Bulshit. For whose money did my citi get new roads, schools, buses, cultural events? Santa Clause?

Brenda wrote:

You will have to let Eastern European people in,

Excuse me, you have something against Eastern Europeans? I am Eastern European and a take that what you said racist.
Canada invites people from around the world, that have nothing in common with both Canadian cultures. What damege could Eastern Europeans do? And BTW, almost 10% of Canadians are Eastern European.

Brenda wrote:

because everybody in the EU can work wherever they want, no visa necessary.

Yes, and that is the best thing about the EU. I can pack my bag and go to Portugal at any moment.
Anyway Canada abolished visas for most EU countries a long time ago, or is going to abolish soon.

Brenda wrote:

You will lose your currency, and your independence.

Not true. Every state is independent, with it's own laws. Many EU countries don't have the Euro : UK, Sweden, Denmark.

Brenda wrote:

Canada will be ruled by Brussels.

or Canada will rule Brussels

Brenda wrote:

NO! Fuck, if that will seriously be considered, I have to find another country to live in

USA? It is just cross the border.

I am too lazy to re-quote everything here, so I appologize for that...

Ok, let me make one thing PERFECTLY clear to you here. I lived in Holland for 36 years. That is Europe, as you might know. I have had my own company, I have seen Europe go to shreds in the past couple of years. The Euro is THE worst thing that could ever happen to Europe. The joining of 27 countries, to what was once only BeNeLux, is not a cheap one. It has to be paid for by someone. The only ones paying for that, are the wealthier Western European countries. There are not many of them. Lets say... 7. People in the west are out of a job, because the easterners work for less money, and don't spend it in the west. Still, the west has to pay for the eastern countries. Big time.

As far as rules and regulations: Brussels rules overrule the rules of the country. Get used to it.

Then to come back to the visa rules in Canada, do you have ANY idea what you are talking about? I thought you didn't.

You are talking complete bullshit, and I really can't believe you are seriously suggesting Canada should join.

No, I don't want to live in the US. I chose Canada for a reason.

sasquatch2 @ Tue Feb 26, 2008 12:47 pm

The simple matter that Streaker supports this is the best reason not to even consider it. DONE!

Brenda @ Tue Feb 26, 2008 12:54 pm

oh, other thing... How the hell can you claim yourself to be politically right, and support the EU and Canada in it at the same time???

You have to get your facts straight. Poland is one of the biggest gainors of the EU taxes.

What a fake

You wish.. you cheese eating surender monkey.
The fact that 90% of Canadians live within 100 miles of the US border, and the fact that we've been culturally mixing with wild abandon for all history got lost on you, I guess.
