THE MAPLE LEAF FOREVER

Well, I remember the Friday assemblies in the gym of the school I went to. It was a pretty bilingual school so we had to sing Oh Canada in both languages. The French kids used to sing it this way:
O Canada (crotte de chat)
Terre de nos aieux (crotte de boeux)
Ton front est ceint (crotte de chien)
De fleurons glorieux (crotte de boeux)
They sang the parts in parentheses without moving their lips. The English kids learned to sing it that way too.
Hope that doesn't offend anyone. We were 11-12 years old and it was a joke for us.
As for "Maple Leaf Forever", reading the lyrics makes me understand why it was overlooked as a national anthem. It's just too old-boy British colonialist. It excludes a lot of people living in Canada. On the other hand, it sounds like what the Liberals secretly believe in, except when they're on the campaign trail, of course.
What was the joke?
$1:
I tired to pay taxes to a old woman who comes only 2 or 3 days per year her.
you don't pay taxes to the queen

I think you taught him something today!!!!!!!

Good Job!!!!!!!
I enjoy "The Maple Leaf Forever" because it is overly patriotic. But having said that, "Oh Canada" was the anthem I grew up with. Both are very good choices. It should also be noted that the English and French versions of "Oh Canada" are markedly different, only sharing the same tune. I consider us lucky that we have two equally good tunes with which to fashion a stirring anthem.

We still pay about $100,000 a year to the Privy Council (it might be $1,000,000 - I don't recall right now)

What's your point? The Privy Council is the government made up of the Prime Minister and his Cabinet...if I'm not mistaken.
I like both songs, but I know all of the words to O Canada...but it couldn't hurt to learn them both, eh? I do happen to like the tune of the Maple Leaf Forever...it's catchy...
PENATRATOR PENATRATOR:
The Lyrics
In Days of yore,
From Britain's shore
Wolfe the dauntless hero came
And planted firm Britannia's flag
On Canada's fair domain.
Here may it wave,
Our boast, our pride
And joined in love together,
The thistle, shamrock, rose entwined,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
[CHORUS]
The Maple Leaf
Our Emblem Dear,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
God save our Queen and heaven bless,
The Maple Leaf Forever.
[CHORUS]
OMG tears of passion and love are rolling down my wee cheeks. What stirring lyrics!! Those words make me feel sooooooo horny - gotta get my wife to whisper them into my ears tomorrow morning.....
would it be appropriate for me to giggle a bit or are you serious?

Perhaps if you giggled in HIS ear?
what does THAT mean?
Hester @ Sat Jul 02, 2005 11:02 pm
He said sumting about having his wife whisper it in his ears tomorrow morning... thought he might like some whispering tonight, that's all...
Oh Canada all the way.
God bless Canada, our home and native land, strong and free.
the mapple leaf song sound like a neo-nazi song, and most of people who like it must have realy bad identity problems
Get over it Froggy!!
