THE MAPLE LEAF FOREVER
yeah...I was also thinking that when they don't make the Canadian teams, they go south... that could be a reason too right?

I suppose. and there is also the dude that was drafted by pittsburg... meh. perhapes we'll just leave the whiners and the greedy down there.
you said it, eh?
I think we have the best National Anthem going. It is regal, easy to sing, patriotic, and reflects both official languages. Just listen to it at the olimpics or next to the american one. O Canada kicks ass!

Am I in the right place? I thought this was about the National Anthem
I have been reading the posts from the begining and now I am getting pissed! If the issue is poetry the original lyrics were the french ones. They were written by a Quebecois band called "Les Patriotes" (take that Bloc Heads) I had a teacher in high school translate the original french on the blackboard. The words are well thought out and make me feel proud. As for the music if well played at the right tempo, it out shines any other anthem. O Canada forever!

Oh Canada is far more representative than the other one, but I like them both.
In my opinion the only other song that is that would be a good fit would be the "Hockey Night In Canada" theme. ![Hockey Body Check [hockey]](./images/smilies/nhl_crach.gif)

P perfer O Canada to The Maple Leaf Forever because the lyrics of the latter support the notion of a Roayl Domminion and British imperialism. Not appropreate for a soverign nation who's next head of state will most likely be domestic and elected.
Still I like the tune, maby the instrumental should become out vice-regal adress, played at the arrival the Governor General.

The USA should change it's anthem to "America the Beautiful"

Ok. So I agree that the current anthem is far superior. I am not a British subject and never will be. However, does being a Canadian citezen also make us subjects of the Church? Two lines in O Canada should be changed: "il s'est porte la croix" and "God keep our land".
A little off topic but there's no where else to post it.

How about three reasons? Three is always a good number.
1) No more archaic grammar.
2) No more singing a tune which was used to see if one was too drunk to be served any more.
3) If (1) and (2) weren't bad enough, I recall that it was also the tune used by Zaphod Beeblebrox and Ford Prefect for the "ancient Betelgeusian death anthem" in the BBC
Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy series. That would kill any ailing national anthem.

America's a beautiful place but those three reasons are beyond me.
