Tory MPs Turn against Harper
Donny_Brasco Donny_Brasco:
Saturday dress in a clown suit and march in front of your PC MP's riding office at noon CST. Who's in?
SEE THIS IS THE PROBLEM.
YOU ARE ALL WILLING TO BITCH ABOUT IT BUT NO ONE WANTS TO DO JACK SHIT ABOUT IT!
Trevor is not spending hundreds of dollars a month so you can sit around and jerk each other off. Try getting off of your butts and organizing something.
The Canadian way is to take it up the ass. When we should be kicking ass.
The scary thing about Harper is the more he alienates moderate conservatives and the closer he skates towards the edge of the ice and losing power, the more likely he is to take a page from the Dick Cheney/Republican playbook and 'decree' all kinds of stuff for King Ralph that, once given, will cause the country myriad migraines to try and reverse. He's exactly that type of right-wing robotoid...he don't care about tomorrow...it's all about the ideology. Hopefully moderate tories will keep him in check, knowing that if he goes too far they'll be facing yet another name change and another party re-organization. But make no mistake that Harper's a slave to US neo-con think-tanks...that's what makes him dangerous to Canada. If Flaherty's first budget is a corporate give-away, or axes any social spending, they're done. They shouldn't count on too much Bloc support...it's luke-warm at best.

Er... I think it's the hardline conservatives he's alienated with these appointments, I don't think Fortier or Emerson could ever be described as neo-cons, if anyone's upset it's the reformistas

Thats correct.
Not really; moderate conservatives really sold the reform, but then he accepts a turn-coat right out of the gate after all of the talk about corrupt liberal ways. Then he pulls an 'imperial' by appointing his unelected campaign manager to a cabinet post. Hard-liners won't be duly disturbed by this but moderates will be raising their eyebrows.
I disagree Northcelt. It's the ideological, hard right, Reform part of the party that's annoyed by this. People like me.
The pragmatists are quite content with it. In fact, I don't think it takes a great amount of insight to guess that the Fortier decision was one that came right from Harper's new advisor, the Rt Honourable Brian M. He's a close friend of Fortier and this is classic, Mulroneyesque, coalition building. Fortier is a major organizer and fund raiser in Montreal, and Harper needs people like him to build the CPC base in Quebec for the next election.
As for Emerson, it's a brilliant coup for the Conservatives from an internal standpoint. We get a very capable minister to put in charge of major issues like softwood lumber, and it's a huge kick for the Liberals while they're down.
And as far as politics go, this storm will be long over by the time it's time to go back to the polls in a couple of years. Nobody, other than Reform types are going to remember it. And really, who else are we going to vote for?
But the fact it's smart, doesn't make it right.

Again, the bottom line here still remains.
Canadians don't give a rats ass about this. It's us wannabe pundits that care but it's not even on the radar of the general public.
True, they don't follow the specific details, but they do get the headline news....
Most Canadians who watch the 6:00 news have seen stories about what happened....
And also, this thread is about Con MPs becoming disgruntled with Harper, not about Canadians who don't follow politics.
Seeing and understanding are two different things.
Sure, it may of made the news a couple days ago, now it's old news.
It stays in the back of people's minds though....
The Cons won because the general public saw a lot of headlines about liberal scandals over a long period of time....even though most people don't know the details of the so-called scandals, and how they turned out....
If a lot of negative headlines appear over the next two years or so, it will stick in the back of peoples minds.....and influence their impression of whoever the headlines are about.
It's not the same at all, nor are there negative. This story hit headlines once.
People understand scandal, theft and corruption. Most people don't have a clue about what "crossing the floor" means nor will it be an issue come the next election.
Wow, not even a week and Harper's already breaking promises. Doesn't surprise me...
I just hope he can get his act together soon.
What a complete load of left wing bunk.
None of these supposedly angry Tory MPs were named, etc. Quoting a caller to the Bill Good show. Come on!
Wake up people! This crap will be on the menu continuously as the left wing media in this country do everything to get Harper out.
That article is piss poor

Agreed - he probably is the best guy for the job, for the softwood lumber issue if nothing else (and that's all I really care about.

)
However.... you're wrong if you see this as a kick for the Liberals. We're actually sitting here smugly watching you Cons try to spin this... largely unsuccessfully.

If you read the whole thread Lily, you'll find I was disgusted by the whole thing. In my book it's a total disappointment.
But for the reasons I mentioned, I don't think it'll hurt them in the long run. And it can't be good for the Libs to lose one of their best and brightest.

Lily, come on now, it really IS a kick in the Liberals' teeth.
The day the new Govt. is sworn in, they show up with a Liberal in their Cabinet

You know it's a much better coup than Belinda ever was, and will prove to be so in the long run.

Funny, most of our papers are right leaning......And if you could prove that this article is indeed piss poor and a load of left wing bunk, instead of just saying it is, I'm all ears....

And were watching you libs once again....grasping at straws.
Funny how these libs have nothing to say when pm PM did it but now it's a national scandal when Harper trys to do what he thought was right by giving the rest of Canada equal representation.
Carry on though Libs!
Bet your just waiting for a billion dollar cash in the brown envelope scenario to qualm your needs.
Fuc* you libs are funny.

lily doesn't see anything negative us CPC supporters post about the party. It's almost as if it's invisible to her.
