My own views on the feminist movement closely reflects those of Persiana. I think that the feminist movement more or less WON, and when a political activist group WINS, either they disband in victory... or they have to find new causes to fight for. Well, feminists moved on to finding new causes to fight for.

Opposing the adoption of Sharia law for any segment of the Canadian population is a noble goal, but our country is in HARD shape if we need the feminists to stave off the official adoption of Sharia law for Islamic Canadians. Mutliculturalism is excellent, but it's no excuse to allow theocratic law to circumvent the secular laws of the land for a segment of our population. I should hope that a solid majority of Canadians realize this, and we don't need the feminists to stop the adoption of Sharia law.

Indeed, many of the positive things that the Status of Women group does can be done with out the need of feminist advocacy groups. Stopping criminal violence of any sort against any particular group of people is a basic matter for the Ministry of Justice. Helping out signle mothers should be fairly high on HRDC's agenda list. And so on, and so forth.

Personally, I see the Status of Women department as a largely redundant government body. It only makes sense to me that any government streamlining, or spending cuts, would include government bodies such as theirs.

As for the engaging, and passionate, debate between Lily and Persiana.

There's an analogy that I find somewhat fitting here...

Let's say that I park my car in a crowded mall parking lot late at night in a large city. I leave the keys in the car, and also leave the doors unlocked. Someone steals my car.

Now... is it my fault? No, it's the fault of the thieve who wrongly stole my car.

Still, could I have helped myself more by NOT leaving the keys in my car, and NOT leaving the doors unlocked? Of course I could have.

Likewise... if a woman who dresses in an extremely slutty fashion, as Persiana described in effective detail, gets unwanted sexual harassment and/or 'cat calls'... is it her fault? No, it's the fault of the person who is harassing her.

Still, could she have helped herself more by NOT dressing in such a fashion? Of course she could have.

I'm not going to touch on rape itself, because I consider rape to be one of the most vile crimes that a person can commit, but as for unwanted sexual harassment... I think that we should encourage people to dress in a respectful fashion.

Just my opinion.

Well heres some of the Earth shattering good works (gag me with a spoon) the Status for Women are involved in, note they haven't completed any of these "Stunning and worthy" studies. Those who oppose the funding cuts seem to be Socialist who want the Goberment to be their Nanny and hold their hands while they apply for a SIN number. As a female I think this organization has sucked the public tit long enough for christ sakes look at the foolishness of their progects. They serve no purpose and frankly I'm insulted as female that the Cons gave them 25 million to do yet more useless studies, it's time for females to stand on their own two feet and stop whinging and moaning. Canada has the Labour Relation Board to handle employment enequity or sexual harrassment. The Human Rights Tribunal will help females who's rights get violated. The Status for women is quite frankly a Socialist Program to pander to the PC crowd and how any intelligent female can think we need this organization is beyond me.

The Status for Womens good works, what a freaking joke.

So according to the SWAC website: http://www.swc-gc.ca/resources/gba/cs/index_e.html the Gender Based Analysis is as follows:
Gender-based Analysis

Case Studies

Anti-Smoking (to come)

Anti-Terrorism Legislation in Canada (to come)
Climate Change (to come)

Crime Prevention (to come)

Emergency Preparedness (to come)

HIV/AIDS (to come)
Urban Transport (to come)

Look at that list, and if you are honest you will admit that the hollowed halls of Acadamia have done studies on all these subjects but without the gender bias. Urban transport jesus wept, emergency preparedness oh mercyful god.

Persiana how I admire how you have handled all the crap thrown at you by the PC crowd, bravo job well done.
