This is getting fucked up. Carrying a pistol as a part of some antiquated amanedment is one thing, but to show up at a politcal event with the President of the US with an AR-15? That is nothing but the worst kind of political thuggery.

What's next, a guy exercising his constitutional right to wear a vest of C4?

I'm sorry to say it, but the right in the US is losing it's mind and innocent people are probably going to die because of this derangement.

And another thing, can anyone imagine would have been if this had happaened at a GWB rally? FFS, people wearing the wrong t-shirt or who had the wrong bumper sticker were arrested for their trouble.

   

Yes it is. They released, after 30 years in jail, one of the Manson family just the other day for doing almost this exact thing: brandishing a weapon at Gerold Ford.

   

This is getting bad and someone's going to end up being murdered before it's all over.

Nope... it was on the streets, with all the protesters Bush shoved several blocks down the street to avoid being seen by most of the cameras there for him and his speech.

Not a valid comparison, not to mention a poster isn't an assult rifle.

   

Indeed.... this is completely insane.

Now this will be all through their news media, and more people will think they get a green light to have machine guns, assault rifles, handguns and everything else with them when they go to see the president.

And if they didn't think things were bad enough with all the mass shootings as of late, just wait until one of these whack jobs decides to unload in a crowd with their president amongst the people.

Then other civilians will shoot back, hitting other innocent by standers trying to flee from the bullets that miss their target, and then you have the SS gunning everybody down who's shooting their guns..... and I doubt Obama will have his fancy clear bubble to protect him either.

Then what happens?

Well if the US doesn't figure out how screwed up and out of control they are by that point, then that only means they'll head further down the spiral.

Yeah.... let me rush off to the next Conservative convention with a few guns strapped to my body, claim it's just expression and then get into an argument with a Conservative..... besides being illegal, the weapon is an item for intimidation.

They should all be checked at the doors at a political rally in the US..... their rights be damned. If you don't think the SS and the police surrounding the place with all their guns can't protect you, what the hell makes you think you with a gun will do any better?

I'm guessing MSNBC won't be interviewing this guy and trying to smear him as a racist. There were a number of folks who were packing at this event and it was all perfectly legal.

   

I'm afraid that country has a one-way ticket right into the shitter. The right-wing has figured out how to moblize the "useful idiots" at will and even though the Repubs have been voted out of the white house, the congress and the senate, they can still influence the nation's politics through mob tactics and scare tactics.

This is not an organic, "grass roots" or one-time reaction to the ficticious "death panels," or "public option" health care or any other particular policy proposal. This is the calculated reaction of a political party that's been voted out of power but still thinks its entitled to run the country unilaterally. This is part of a larger political strategy which I fear will become the "new normal," where the unelected opposition will turn even the most modest and timid proposals of their opponents into "death panel" scare campaigns and turn the whackos out in the street who carry AR-15's and implicty call for the excutions of public politicians (hanging effigies, "refresh the tree of liberty" slogans, etc).

I don't see that country ever coming back from this. Too bad America has the bomb because while the inmates may not be running the assylum, they now have a permanent seat on its board of directors.
