A dozen protesters carry rifles to Obama speech
paranoid imagined threats coming from a law abiding person that happens to have a rifle slung to his shoulder. you guys are pathetic.
Akhenaten Akhenaten:
Does he carry that weapon to work? Does he carry that weapon to the grocery store? I know he can but does he? No he doesn't, so could we please stop this childish game of "He brought the weapon because it's his right"?
They're bringing and brandishing weapons as a threat nothing less. Any pretence to something else is just that: pretense. It might make sense if it was a rally to protest changes to the gun laws but it ain't. Nothing remotely close to that.
I wonder who he threatened... He seems like a good guy with his smile !

So sez you.
I attended a Bill Clinton presentation once and was armed to the teeth. Are you going to tell me that I was doing that as nothing less than a threat to the man?

Proculation Proculation:
Your argument do not stand...
Oh, but it does, and the above are perfect examples of just how their laws have made it much more easier for lunatics to commit mass murder, which unfortunatly, there seems to be plenty of them in the US.
(Not all are, and many are good people who know how to use their brains)$1:
I can buy a knife designed to kill legally and not kill anyone but I can also buy a power tool legally and kill someone with.
I have several knives, combat, hunting, etc. If one was so inclined, one could kill someone... perhaps a couple of people with a knife.... but their distance is limited and they can easily be taken down compared to someone with an assault rifle...... your comparisons are flawed.
So because somone can kill someone with a pencil in the neck, we should simply allow all firearms to be just as legal as a pencil?
If that's the case, why not allow everybody to have their own Panther III Tank? How about every house have their own Nuclear deterrant while we're at it?
Why not? Because of their level of lethality.... and a firearm's lethality is far greater then a knife or sword.
People argue that firearms are a tool, not a weapon, which is complete crap, because firearms have always, since the dawn of their creation, been a weapon to kill. Anything used to kill is a weapon.
I'm not one of those people who are wanting a total ban on firearms and for them to be ridded of off the face of the earth... they do serve a function in the hands of the right people.
I've used and owned a number of firearms in the past.... but I also went through extensive training and education on firearms during my day. My father trained other soldiers in the Militia with their various firearms and I've gotten plenty beaten into my head on safety and proper usage.
But in most places in the US, so long as you have a driver's license in the State you are purchasing from, you can get whatever you want.... no training, no safety checks.... nothing... there's very little regulation whatsoever..... and to me, that's the problem and that's why there are so many lunatics going on rampages.

Like it or not, guns are a basic thing in American history.
And they'll also be what makes America History in due time.
I carried my concealed penis into a feminist convention, I dang near got myself arrested for threatening them.

A presentation, not a protest. If you were among a group of protestors and you had a rifle on your back, yes, I'm pretty sure that would be the intent.
Unless you were protesting firearm restrictions, then a rifle makes sense.

I was think of packing an unloaded pellet handgun on a side holster, just to show that I'm still a law abiding citizen and you paranoid libs have no reason to fear me.
Well if you're in Canada, don't complain if the cops gun you down.
Praxius, are you now painting law abiding citizens as lunatics that commit mass murder merely by allowing them to pack firearms? what is it about these firearms, are they possessed with evil spirits that corrupt the good?

Actually so sez a whole blogosphere of people who approve of bringing rifles to rallys to show the president
"We'll fight fer our rightz"....rights that aren't being threatened.
At the Clinton rally -- were you holding those weapons out in the open so everyone could see you were armed?

Hey Bart! How are things?
Much, much better, thank you!

I wouldn't classify most here as "anti-gunners". Anti-idiot maybe.
Given the conspicuous absence of Lily, Streaker,
et al, I'm inclined to agree with you on that point.

I like playing with guns as much as the next guy, murdered the hell out of hundreds of clay pigeons. But arming yourself to go to a political protest in a western democracy is a little fucked up. We have our Caledonias in Canada, so we can't look down our noses, but we can still call a mental midget, a mental midget.
Arming yourself is the highest and purest form of political protest. Americans established a tradition of just this kind of thing in 1775. Used to be the English carried some very beautiful daggers quite publicly to distinguish themselves as free men. I'd say the charming young fellow at the rally in Arizona carried his properly safed AR-15 as a similar demonstration.
Free people are free to responsibly bear arms and as and where they see fit.
Anyone who is not free to do the same is not quite as free, are they?

no, they were concealed so that they could get in closer before shooting
its a good thing that the laws dont allow me to carry my penis out in the open...
I conceal my penis so I can get closer to the rape victim.
