There's arseholes in Canada.
According to Brenda there is nothing but worldly, cosmopolitan people in Europe compared to us low, back-water colonials.
i never said that.

You implied it.

I think my point got missed. I was asking Brenda why she cares if I dis the Dutch, since she's chosen to leave her homeland to come to Canada. Ie where are her loyalties.
Not any better. Permanent Resident status, look it up. Plenty of people who are not Canadian live in and pay taxes in Canada, we just don't let them vote.
andyt andyt:
Why do I owe the Dutch support?
Nobody said you owe anybody anything. After you look up Permanent Resident Status, check out the definition for the word ally.
Brenda @ Mon Feb 22, 2010 2:58 pm
Nope. I said "HUGE GENERALIZATION". Guess you missed it.
Fact is, a lot of people have no clue what goes on in the rest of the world. The Netherlands is a worldly country, yes. Most of the news is worldnews. Guess you missed that when you were there.
A lot of people do not know where to find it on a map. A lot of people don't know we have people in Afghanistan, among other places. "Oh, you are Dutch! Aren't you from Denmark?"
Not that they know where to find that...
But, I will give you that, a lot of people don't know Canadians don't live in igloos, and it is not only cold in Canada.
Brenda Brenda:
Btw, the cheese does suck, and the fact you don't make vanille vla out of milk is plain stupid. So there.
Apparently you haven't had Balderson six year old cheddar...

No! Is it any good?
To die for! Costco sells it (along with other excellent cheeses - included a smoked Gouda that is excellent
).

Nope, seen it quite clearly.

No more or less than Canada, but they are ruder.

No, most of the news was European based only. I guess you're having trouble reading English.

So you admit finally that some Dutch are ignorant about Canada. It only took you a couple of pages.
As others have said, there are assholes everywhere. Just don't try to paint your home country as some beacon of wordly knowledge when it is merely the same as every other country out there.
Brenda @ Mon Feb 22, 2010 3:10 pm
It definitely is not. And I think in my first post here, a couple of years ago, I said that my moms reaction was, when I told her we wanted to move to Canada: "ohhh, WAY too cold".
So no, I am far from saying Dutch are not ignorant about Canada.

There is a huge cultural difference though between north america and (at least) the netherlands. Both western countries, but still a huge difference. Things you don't notice when you visit...

Of course there is a big cultural difference, just like there is a big cultural difference when I head to the Caribbean. The main thing I did notice in Europe was the rudeness. Manners are sadly lacking in European society today and I wasn't the only person who noticed. When I returned from Europe my mother-in-law asked how it was and we mentioned it was great other than the rude behaviour. She confided in me that the behaviour was the number one reason why she doesn't go back anymore. She's a little old Italian woman with the patience of a saint and she can't stand the behaviour, which says a lot to me about Europeans.

And you tell me you don't generalize?

Brenda Brenda:
 And you tell me you don't generalize?
I never claimed to not generalise. The funny thing about our European trip was that the politist people we ran into where in Tunisia.
Which just happens to be in Africa for those geographicly challenged.
Brenda @ Mon Feb 22, 2010 4:12 pm
Tunesians are VERY polite, as opposed to their Morrocan neighbours. Germans are very rude when they are away from their hometown, Englishmen are VERY annoying when drunk, French are rude everywhere, Spanish women are ugly once married, Dutchies can be pretty rude in their own country, Belgians (Wallonians) are only willing to speak french, even in Holland, and Eastern Europe... well, they are 50 years behind

I never had trouble with Morrocans but that was over 20 years ago.
