Just wait til the Americans formally ask us to stay...

Could be the same thing.

Good luck Geert !

Geert Wilders had nothing to do with this. Again, it is Wouter Bos who is being the ass. Or more, the PvdA (Labour), that he is leader of. Leftist asswhipes.

If they don't get their way, they are turning around and walking away instead of working it out. Ugh. Can't believe people still vote for them.

True, but unless the center-right can cobble together another
coalition, an election wont be far away.

within 3 months.

I dunno if he will get too many votes tho (sorry, kinda slow today, didn't get that you were wishing him luck in the elections )... He has screwed up a couple of things lately :? We'll see...

The Netherlands is a pretty liberal country, that will mostly vote centre. Centre left (PvdA, or as the BBC calls it, Labour) or centre right (CDA or VVD) or, weirdly enough, left (SP).
There used to be a party called Centrumparty, lead by Hans Janmaat, that was banned for its views...

It seriously is a shame that Pim Fortuyn was murdered... He would have brought the change The Netherlands needs so badly. He was WAY more charismatic than Wilders is, had a way to tell it how it is, without offending anyone. Wilders claims to do everything he does with Pim's idealogy in mind, but hell, he doesnt even come close...

I don't care if the Dutch pull out of Astan - it's not like they were doing much there anyway. And lets give it a couple of years before we start celebrating the successes of the latest surge, see if the Astani's can run their own country without a Taliban resurgence. (I doubt it).

So, let's hope at least the Nederlanders are smart enough to elect a govt that keeps their jihadis in check.

Are you not an immigrant to Canada, living somewhere in the wilds of BC? You're not one of those that hang on to their country of origin and don't integrate, are you? Still scuffing around in wooden shoes, complaining that the cheese is no good? If Canada isn't your country now, what are you doing here? (We ask these same questions of Muslims, don't see why they don't apply to non-Muslim immigrants as well.)

You think Dutchies walk around in wooden shoes in The Netherlands? ALL of them? ALL the time?? Really, like I said before, you need to go out more.

Do I speak English? yep.
Do my kids go to school here? yep.
Do they sing the Anthem when they can? yep.
Do I push my religious beliefs onto others? nope.
Do I support ALL troops? yep.

Really, you have NO clue what you are talking about.

Btw, the cheese does suck, and the fact you don't make vanille vla out of milk is plain stupid. So there.

Brenda @ Sat Feb 20, 2010 4:20 pm

Btw, the fact that you think an immigrant is Canadian says enough about your knowledge about the subject.

andyt @ Sat Feb 20, 2010 4:59 pm

OKay, deep breath there Brenda. Mostly I'm just having you on. Of course I don't think Nederlanders all wear wooden shoes. The cheese here doesn't suck because we import it from all over, including Holland, and make some pretty good stuff ourselves. But living out past Spuzzum and all, you probably don't have access to that.

I don't know what vanilla vla is. But if it tastes like it sounds - vla, vla, maybe it's a good thing we don't make it here.

But, my having a go at you raised a serious question in my mind. We (at least I) like to rant about how well the Asians or Africans are integrating, or not. But there's probably a bit of racism there, 'cause we assume that whities that look like us, think like us. I guess the ultimate test would be in case of war with mother country and Canada, who would you support? And I certainly know lots of Italians, born here, who still only marry other Italians and hang around only with other Italians. And the immigrants complain constantly how it was better over there, even tho they havn't been back in 50 years. Probably the same for other European groups. That's their right, no doubt, but again, the question would be, is it "Canada ueber alles" or not?

The Gouda cheese that is made in Salmon Arm doesnt come close to the Gouda cheese made in Gouda, The Netherlands. Yes, I have access to Gouda, and Edam cheese (really, we have grocery stores here. Funny detail, the local one is run by Chinese people. It has been that way for over 50 years, and he does not speak a word English)

Personally, I don't give a shit where anyone comes from, what his skincolour or religion is. During the Olympics, I cheer for the winner, I am proud of seeing the Dutch cheering for everyone, love listening to "Kleintje Pils" (the hoompapa band that plays where ever the Dutch are), I am proud of the Canadians winning a medal, I am proud of the Dutch winning a medal.
I would marry the person I love, not because he's Dutch, but because he loves me and treats me the way I deserve, and I do really not give a shit about where he comes from. I do not care with whom my kids come home with, whether that is a Canadian or an Australian.

I have lived here for 2 years. Do you really expect me to give up everything I have learned and lived for 36 years, my roots, my family, in 2 years?

So, to be perfectly blunt with you: No it's not Canada Uber Alles. But it is also not The Netherlands Uber Alles.
In case of war between the 2 countries... I would not understand it, and thus not support it. But I do support the people fighting it. ALL of them.
