Tunesians are VERY polite, as opposed to their Morrocan neighbours.
I never had trouble with Morrocans but that was over 20 years ago.
Maybe they are nice in their own country, but once living abroad, they think they are Allh's gift to womenhood

I'm glad we agree on the rest tho

Well that might explain why I've ever had any issues with them. I'm not a woman!

Funny, I just spoke to a British lady who asked me how much I liked it here in Canada. I had nothing but positive things to say (and kept the negative things to myself), but she was amazed by the fact that I thought everybody was so polite. She thought people were rude over here (BC). That's her opinion, and having lived in the UK myself I can see why she thinks Canadians are rude, but I think Canadians are friendly. Not when they play hockey, though.

Permanent Resident status, look it up. Plenty of people who are not Canadian live in and pay taxes in Canada, we just don't let them vote.
Really? Who'd a thought it? They live in and pay taxes, but we don't let them vote you say? Do tell. Sorta like taxation without representation? And here I thought everybody who moves to Canada gets a vote right away. I mean it's the only polite thing to do if we're going to invite them in. But what does any of this have to do with my original post?

Why do I owe the Dutch support?
Nobody said you owe anybody anything. After you look up Permanent Resident Status, check out the definition for the word ally.
Maybe just leave it at I don't owe anybody anything. If I support the Dutch leaving Astan (along with everybody else) am I not supporting an ally who's mired in the same futile effort as we are?
I don't know of any country that allows non citizens to vote. Hell, there are lots of countries that don't allow citizenship for foreign residents and their children...period, no matter how many generations they have lived there. German citizenship can be a bitch to obtain.

I think you have a looooot to learn about the immigrationsystem

But, seriously, I dont think it is a bad thing. It takes a while before you understand the political system, and then you have to be interested in politics too. Voting is important, and you can not walk from the airport to the voting booth, just because "it is your right". That is a waste of vote.
Non-citizens also cannot work all jobs they want. I applied at Elections BC last spring, but since I am a PR, they didnt know if I was allowed to work for them, so they didnt hire me. (gotta love the reasons for rejection

We could start a whole thread about it!

) I think it would have been smart to hire me, since I have no political opinion... Oh well...
It wasn't so long ago here, that you could be deported for violating your work permit if you even volunteered for something, like a crossing guard at your kids school.
The best you can hope for here is PR staus, after you've been here for 5 years and you jump through a shit load of hoops. However, since it's not a consideration for us, it's of no interest. We're here for money only, as 95% of all foreigners are(including Japanese, Koreans, Thais, and Filipinos), although that's not so great with the exchange rate.
Soon(in a year or two) it'll be time to head home, boot the tenants out of our house(my parents can find an apartment for themselves) and go back to work and pay ridiculous taxes....oh yeah and winter. I'm starting to miss my dogs, my snow machine and boat.

You can be deported from Canada too for violating your work permit. Whether it happens or not, I don't know, I don't have one, but it seems like a pain in the ass to me to get your SIN without the proper paperwork...
hell, I got my SIN card when I was in Gr. 8 and lost it the next year. I just have it memorized(having to say it in a room full of CS gas really helps you remember it for life
Brenda @ Tue Feb 23, 2010 7:27 am

I am pretty good with numbers, I remember the all phonenumbers I used to have
, I remember my Dutch SIN#, but I sure as hell have no clue about any number here
I guess my short time memory is starting to fail me

what the hell are you talking about, and who the hell are you?

Are you not an immigrant to Canada, living somewhere in the wilds of BC? You're not one of those that hang on to their country of origin and don't integrate, are you? Still scuffing around in wooden shoes, complaining that the cheese is no good? If Canada isn't your country now, what are you doing here?
She lives here, she is not Canadian.
My wife lives here, and is not Canadian. Has no intention of becoming one.
I have a German friend who lives here, has for 14 years now. Will never give up her German citizenship.
What are they doing here? They like living here. They work and pay taxes here. Sometimes they even procreate and make brand new little CANADIANS here.
What the hell is YOUR problem?
