When barty boy supply's that stat...I will search for the same to compare.

Here's a stat for you, Gerryboy; since 1991 in every state and locality in the United States that has reduced gun controls or imposed shall issue laws to allow law abiding citizens to carry firearms the crime rates have declined.

In every jurisdiction that has increased firearms restrictions crime has increased.

In those jurisdictions where firearms have been banned, most notably Oakland, California - crime rates have surged.

The Centers for Disease Control - which a decade ago had called for gun controls to end an epidemic of gun violence has now conceded that there is no evidence whatsoever to demonstrate that gun control laws reduce or mitigate crimes in any way whatsoever.

They changed their minds based on the facts.

Your turn.

Then explain the over double murder rate of your "fine" country with next to no gun controls compared to Canada's WITH controls. Seems to fly in the face of what you have just said...... Or is it a matter of your country being full of psycho's?
Actually, it's more likely because of population density. The more people you have in one area, the worse. And when you have the population of canada is single state, shit goes down bad. So it's not even the different in population that matters. You will find way more killings in a city then in a country on a ratio because of it.

2005 murder rates per 100,000

Alaska 4.8
California 6.9

Canada 2.0

SO tell me trixie.... does Alaska have that much denser a population than Canada?
You mean there is an exception? No fucking way! There will always be an anomaly. Could it be because there is very little police because of the population? All the Northern territories have a higher crime rate because of how spread out the cops would be. They have little chance of being caught.

Make up your mind now trixie.... above you said it was because of population density..... now you are saying because of the cops being more spread out?

Yukon territory...... 3.2

Dude... There is 670000 people in Alaska. 32000 in The Yukon. You just made my point.

GerryHurt GerryHurt:

I didn't introduce murder rates....that would have been barty boy and then his side kick trixie.....

I agree with your last paragraph. The long gun registry is not about taking away those rights. Since automobiles was brought up earlier...... we have to register our vehicles....so what's the big deal with registering your long gun?

Until I read about police officers supporting the registry as an investigative toll I thought it was a black hole of money.

If cops feel it has merits then perhaps its true. The question then is one of cost efficiency and on that I have yet to see data either way.

I agree that registration isn't like banning but registering cars and guns are very different. In principle I agree but I cannot agree with any plan to ban/restrict firearms to responsible citizens.

I've debated this often. Gun control will not affect crime rates and serves only as a placebo to the public.

The hard truth is that in a free society we have to accept a certain level of crime/violence.

The alternative would be far worse.

Gerry are you trying to say gun registry is working?

See stratos....I'm NOT an american....I see no reason whatso ever for anyone to NEED an unregistered log gun or hand gun for that matter. I see no reason for the average citizen to require a hand gun, and unless you have a hunting license....you don't need a long gun either. Period.

well gerry...i dont know how to tell you this but ive got 2 rifles,2 shotguns and 2 handguns...and i DONT have a hunting license...actually ive never hunted or shot animal in my whole entire life(with the exception of my dog when he was too old and sick to go on)..in fact i'm a vegetarian...is that whacked or what??

We Register our vehicles so our license plate is available for many reasons. For one, photo radar.

Actually photo radar has proved to be a large headache for law enforcement. In Ontario and other provinces they bring it in for a short while then abolish it because in the end its not worth it.

the reasons are very legal and technical and I didn't understand until someone explained.

In Ontario we used to have photo radar vans yet they turfed them. Why?

We used to have photo radar at intersections yet they turfed them.

Hell the same thing happens for red-light cameras.

It doesn't make sense until you get into legal ownership techincalities. There is the rub.

Fine, the 407 cameras. Identifying vehicles that have been stolen or were involved in a crime. There are many reasons for Car is be registered.

The 407 cameras are there soley to catch fee dodgers. Not being controlled by the province or an established police force they have little validity in criminal court.

The truth is that most people/lawyers figbhting photo charges do so because the photo doesn't establish guilt on a person basis. Our law is extremly heavy on person basis and any questions about the actual suspect are treated very seriously which is why photo radar invariably fails.

The crown needs to prove who was driving to enforce the ticket and with photo radar that is problamatic.

I never said the 407 ones are there for criminals. That was just another reason.

As I said before, there are many reasons. From legal to insurance.

Hey come back to the chat Gerry. Scared?
