H1N1 Vaccine- Should you get it or not?
djakeydd djakeydd:
I soooo hope you are right.
Imagine all the panic-get-shot-now crowd dropping like flies,
or mutating over to Planet of the Apes type stuff.
That would be sweet.
oh for those who wanted to see the patent
here it is

I wonder... How many people confuse a bad cold with the flu?
That's true.
I've got something right now, but I have no idea what it is. It's not like any cold I've ever had.
Headaches started last Thursday until yesterday, almost no fever, a bit stuffed up but no sore throat. My throat glands hurt a bit but that's it.
My GF says I look sick but I don't feel so bad.
The only flu I'm sure I ever had was the Sydney 'A' strain 10 years ago. You tend to remember 5 strait days of high fever.

thanks canadianjeff but did you remember that the drug companies demanded immunity from all litigation from damage from the swine flu vaccine?
and there are 2 researchers who work for glaxo smith cline . who OWN the h1n1 patent as in the actual virus.
and who is charging the Canadian government $300 per h1n1 dose ? glaxo
and how much is the regular seasonal flu vaccine? $5
no freaking way is that crap going near anyone in my family
we will get immunity from it the old fashioned way ... building anitbodies
oh and by the way the statistics that they DONT tell you on TV all the time
one in 250,000 who get it die. you are more likely to die from diabetes ...have YOU cut down your sugar? or a car accident. and to your think before you panic comment
who's panicing? its the idiots in the lineups
Where is that patent ? Patents are easy to find on the internet. Give us a link.
Prove that GSK is charging 300$ per dose. That's crap. It costs 8$ last time I heard.
Why not take the vaccine to build those antibodies and NOT get the flu in the first place ?
The original cost was estimated at 16 it's now gone up to 30.
That's still far less than 300$ and:
$1:
In September, provincial and territorial health ministers predicted the cost of buying the vaccine and delivering it at around $16 a dose, or $806-million in total based on the 50.4 million doses ordered. The total cost is currently running at about $30 a shot and climbing.
So that means it's the delivery cost that is climbing. I don't think GSK changed their price overtime so 8$/dose to GSK seams right.

okay and ? Someone created and attenuated flu virus. ooooh big deal. I understand that some tinfoilers WILL link that to the pandemic but you do understand that pharmas created all sort of genetically modified things since a long time ?

Well if you don't have fever it's not a flu. That's the key difference. You have high fever with a flu.
Brenda @ Thu Nov 12, 2009 9:24 am
Yeah, but you can have a fever without having the flu too. A stuffed nose and a fever is not the same as the flu.
I had pneumonia in 2 lungs a couple of years ago, 40+ fever. No flu tho. Just pneumonia.

Actually, that may not be the case with H1N1. Supposedly, many of the people with swine flu don't have the fever normally associated with influenza. (This may be complicating efforts to handle H1N1, since fever is one thing that's often used by doctors to differentiate influenza from colds.)
From:
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/709540_3Patients with 2009 influenza A H1N1 infections have higher rates of gastrointestinal symptoms and lack of fever compared with those who have seasonal flu....about 12% do not have fever and that many report diarrhea and vomiting.

The funny thing about that is that it could be as easily be just a stomach bug, a 24 hour hour thing, as anything else...
I'm wondering why their is so little coverage from the Ukraine, reportedly there are over a million sick and several hundred dead and their eastern border is closed. They say the symptoms in Ukrania are not unlike the deadly 1918 Spanish flu (I believe that one was non-viral), apparently that flu has not surfaced since researchers dug it up a couple of years ago - inspite of the outrage and opposition from the medical community. The western media has an agenda that includes hyping this scare and reporting fake shortages of the vaccine to panic the sheople - so far their strategy seems rather flawed

one reason is the borders are closed.. literally.
schools and public buildings closed for 3 weeks,
I'm sure the media over there is being censured.
I am right beside Ukraine and we get barely any news either.
Wow, here's a site that may give you something - it'll load your boat on the vaccine and it's reported effects worldwide if nothing else.

It must be true. It's on the internet. PANIC!

Fewer flu deaths this year than normal
Manitoba Health is reporting that an adult aged between 18 and 65 who suffered from underlying medical conditions and who was confirmed to have H1N1 has died.
It’s the first death linked to H1N1 in the second wave of the virus. There were seven deaths linked to H1N1 in the first wave of the virus earlier this year.
At eight deaths, it’s about 92 fewer flu-related deaths than Manitoba normally sees in a year.
About 100 people, including some who are otherwise healthy and have no underlying medical conditions, die every year from seasonal influenza in Manitoba.
Manitoba Health rarely, if ever, issues press releases for those deaths. As a result, they are almost never reported in the media.

Japan's chief pandemic official briefs on the situation of H1N1
Summary: Japan’s chief pandemic and infectious disease monitoring official, Dr. Nobuhiko OKABE, candidly described Japan’s H1N1 situation during a briefing at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan. He noted that although H1N1 is currently the only flu virus circulating in Japan, it is no worse than the usual seasonal flu and in fact shows lower than average mortality rates. Monitoring for any worsening and for scientific research purposes is still prudent and required. Okabe recommends Tamiflu as a means of alleviating symptoms such as fever but cautioned that it is not a full vaccine. Hand washing, gargling and wearing a mask, the latter two typical in Japan, are good for hygiene but will not protect people from the flu virus. The best method to protect yourself or others is to stay home and avoid crowded places.

So now heads of national pandemic response centres and Provincial health ministries are starting to say, "Um well, maybe a bit overblown here!"
NOTE the guy in the know said, "it is no worse than the usual seasonal flu" Interesting this comment was made at a foreign correspondents club and I have not seen it reported.
So the next health care person that comes around here telling us its very very bad had better have better qualifications than Japan's chief pandemic and infectious disease monitoring official, or I ain't buying what they are selling. Not like I was before though.
2 Billion spent on something less of a problem than the regular flu? There's economic stimulus for you, or I mean, for the drug companies.
Just got my shot yesterday, as well as my seasonal flu and part 1 of my polio. So I feel like a crushed turd right now, I am feeling better than I did last night though.
