Anyways, another tax hike, this time for fuel consumption, is of no use.

As mentionned previously, Govt have been using that same ol' line for some time. They pretend to do this in the population's interest while they increase their $$$, Oh ok.

Unfortuantely, the alarmists really aren't much different than the outright deniers. The outright deniers don't seem to grasp the conept that the Earth has always had naturally occurring warming and cooling trends.
The alarmists on the other hand, want to insist that despite the numerous warming/cooling cycles that have occurred over the eons, THIS one is ALL our fault and if only we'd get off of fossil fuels immediately, we'd never have to worry about global warming ever again.
I have no issue with finding ways to reduce emissions though. At the very least, it'll help improve the health conditions of many city dwellers.

True enough.

One would ask how you can be an AGW "denier", after all, it is rather difficult to deny somthing that doesn't exist.

Here's a better idea.

Let's kill all the chicken little 'expert' liars.

The amounts of methane reduce from stopping all their bullshit, plus the reduction in hot air emissions will help us all.

:)

1.55 Euros, that's 2.17 / litre for you. :)

Andy's comparisons to Europe are apples and oranges again.

European gas consumption is less due to distances, which does make funding
public transport a lot easier.

People use less gas to get around as well.

Next, the vast majority of Euro cars are diesels.
Everyone can remember people with diesels watching the gas turn to jelly,
the cars locking up in November, and not thawing til April.
Only recently improvements have been made to make diesels more winter friendly,
and North American sellers haven't caught up yet.
Please keep in mind diesels are very dirty, and throw all kinds of interesting shit
into the air.

Domestic energy, I only say this.. In Italy, all residences are limited to
a 3KW supply.
Now run downstairs and look at your panel. :)
For example, we can't run the oven and the washing machine at the same time;
we blow the circuit if we do. Small aggravations to be sure, but try taking out
those huge panels in most Canadian homes, and watch how fast you get thumped
out of office.

But it's an unfair comparison anyway, Canada has real winters. :)

Not all diesels are spewing huge amounts of pollution into the air - take a look at the specs for VW's CleanDiesel or BMW's BlueTech diesel engines - when combined with the Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) sold here in North America, they are as/or even more environmentally friendly than any gas-powered engine on the road right now.

http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/al ... el/4237945

And my Jetta TDI has gone through four Edmonton winters now - with days at -30 or worse (before factoring in windchill). Because of its glowplugs, it has had zero problems starting in frigid winter temperatures.

The 'weed and feed' has done a great job Gunny. It's only an offence to sell it in Ontario. Using it isn't an offence. Unless you have a golf course, farm, hotel, conference centre or resort complex then you are free to weed and feed.

Come on Ontario Tories, stop making me go to Buffalo to kill my weeds.

It's illegal here in Alberta too - and this province has been run by conservatives (Socreds and PCs) for almost 80 years straight now.

Caelon Caelon:
In recent years the price difference between gas and diesel at the pumps is not enough to encourage the use of diesel in passenger vehicles. The price premium for the engine is not offset by the fuel savings so we continue to see gasoline powered vehilces dominate the North American market.

I don't know why people don't think that diesels are so expensive.

I paid about $4000 extra for my Jetta TDI and I save fortune over my former gas powered car (Ford). My TDI gets twice the mileage that the Ford did (700 km in the city and almost 1000 highway for about 50 litres, while the Ford got about 350 in the city and maybe 450 on the highway) and for most of the year, diesel costs between 5-10 cents per litre less.

In 2009, I drove from Edmonton to Victoria and back for $140! Let's see any regular gas powered car (of a similar size) do that.

martin14 @ Sun Jun 12, 2011 11:49 am

$1:
And we dislike them for their perceived environmental sins, chiefly the polluting brew of sulfur and nitrogen compounds that they emit into the atmosphere. All those complaints were fair a generation ago, when the twin energy crises of the 1970s propelled diesels into national popularity and kept them there for a decade. Back then, many drivers ignored diesel's faults, or were unaware of them, because diesel cars ran 30 percent farther on a gallon of fuel than similar gasoline-powered cars

Boots, these are new diesel engines, takes years to develop these things.
I meant recently in terms of decades, not the last 5 years.

Your $50,000+ new cars still dont meet emmissions regs though,

$1:
Right now, even the best of these European diesels don't meet the emissions standards in the five states that follow California clean-air regulations.

Diesels are what, less than 5% of the NA market.. in Europe, it's easily half.

They banned Weed and Feed and that's all. The magic ingredient 24D is still available in products like Killex, just have to spray it instead of spreading it.

Use a Green Cross garden hose sprayer, add some liquid fertilizer at the same time and you got home made weed and feed. Make sure the fertilizer uses the same application rate as does the 24D product.

Well since I'm not stuipid enough to believe that the sky is falling, then you can freely call me bland all you want.
Your life must be pretty bland since you seem to need the excitement of "imminent doom" and sign holding losers to "inspire" you. Now that I think of it, some homeless guy is standing at Bloor and Dundas with a sign saying "the end is near". You should go see him to really get your 'nads pumped with inspiration. I mean shit dude, he's holding a sign AND warning us of imminent doom. Based on your pretty low standards of "heroism", you should fucking LOVE that guy.

Harper, is a christian who believes in Armageddon. Harold Camping believes in the Great Rupture (Who knows what the old fart believes in now of course, since his severe stroke). Your poor homeless chap has some odd ideas for certain. These gentlemen share at least one thing in common aside from being wrong...any idea what that might be?

I'm not a christian therefor I don't believe in this shit and I'm just a little less likely to believe in the "sky falling" stuff as someone who is a believer.

A believer may be more susceptible to bull poo idealism or at least be prepared to overlook it.

It would have been nice if Harper had come out of the closet and expressed his ideology before the election.
