The 'weed and feed' has done a great job Gunny. It's only an offence to sell it in Ontario. Using it isn't an offence. Unless you have a golf course, farm, hotel, conference centre or resort complex then you are free to weed and feed.

Come on Ontario Tories, stop making me go to Buffalo to kill my weeds.

Gunnair @ Sat Jun 11, 2011 7:56 am

Have you tried vinegar though? I use it and it works quite well in a pump sprayer.

EyeBrock @ Sat Jun 11, 2011 8:01 am

Malt or white?

Plain white vinegar. Pretty good herbicide though it doesn't work on everything. I wish it worked better on creeping buttercup, which is the weed that gives me the most grief.

Thanos Thanos:
Not all AGW proponents are alarmists. True enough, but it's also undeniable that all the environmental alarmists are AGW proponents.

I'd wager the AGW argument would be far ahead of what it is today if it's proponents hadn't gone so recklessly Chicken Little and neo-Malthusian with the dire predictions as you correctly called them.

Brilliant post. Not to mention the "advocacy science" of certain researchers making rather outlandish, poorly researched claims. The alarmists did more harm than good to their cause.

I'm not sure about the tax question. Clearly we've defaulted to a decision to allow global warming, so taxing it at this point seems kind of pointless. It's not going to change anything. At this point I'd be looking at measures to mitigate climate change, but democracies don't have the ability to see past four years, so I don't expect much will happen there either.

Next, the vast majority of Euro cars are diesels.
Everyone can remember people with diesels watching the gas turn to jelly,
the cars locking up in November, and not thawing til April.
Only recently improvements have been made to make diesels more winter friendly,
and North American sellers haven't caught up yet.
Please keep in mind diesels are very dirty, and throw all kinds of interesting shit
into the air.

Ummmmm. Bit of an exageration. Yes I remember summer formula diesel gelling in the winter or the wrong seasonal spec gelling, but not the right diesel for the climate. You run Vancouver diesel with a -12*C cloud into Alberta in January you might plug a fuel filter if the temperature is cold, but an Edmonton diesel with a -37*C cloud will not gel until -43*C or so. Does not get there very often. Those standards have been met one way or another for as long as I can remember and that goes back a few decades.

Modern highway tractors are so clean that the exhaust meets a better standard than the air in some of the cities they drive through. In other words in the urban smog areas they are an air scrubber.

Europeans have accepted diesel cars to a far greater degree than North Americans. Power deliver is different between gas and diesel so in lighter vehicles gas gives you more of the pressed into the seat feel on acceleration. Start to haul a lot of weight and your fuel economy dissappears in a hurry. Diesels, in most cases, do not give you eye popping acceleration, but handles heavy loads better than gas engines.

In recent years the price difference between gas and diesel at the pumps is not enough to encourage the use of diesel in passenger vehicles. The price premium for the engine is not offset by the fuel savings so we continue to see gasoline powered vehilces dominate the North American market.

mentalfloss @ Sat Jun 11, 2011 11:25 am

AGW exists. But it's the degree to which it exists is the problem.

Tripling gas prices is one way to fix it, sure. But that's impractical. A more practical solution is for corporations to reduce emissions. They make insane amounts of profit, and the economy could still survive even with a deep cut.

Unfortuantely, the alarmists really aren't much different than the outright deniers. The outright deniers don't seem to grasp the conept that the Earth has always had naturally occurring warming and cooling trends.
The alarmists on the other hand, want to insist that despite the numerous warming/cooling cycles that have occurred over the eons, THIS one is ALL our fault and if only we'd get off of fossil fuels immediately, we'd never have to worry about global warming ever again.
I have no issue with finding ways to reduce emissions though. At the very least, it'll help improve the health conditions of many city dwellers.

Right down the middle!

1/2 alarmist, 1/2 denier.

No bud, it's something that eludes you entirely, it's called being a REALIST!
But I guess I should have expected as much from a mental midget that thinks DePape is nothing short of a hero.
Reality isn't your strong suit is it?

Not "Realist", I'd call it BLAND.
DePape is a Hero,
Sometimes ya gotta take a stand.
