And did you consider that to be important for Trudeau, or Mulroney, or Chretien, or Martin, or Layton, or Iggy, or Dion?
You admitted you know nothing about the United Church and yet don't seem the least bit concerned about Layton's religious leanings or beliefs.
Paul Martin was/is Catholic, and was so before the Catholic Church entered its "enlightened" phase.
As for Harper's "religious" views re: abortion and gay marriage, he's been pretty strong with his position on both long before he took office, so like, it really shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone.
Not that I agree with his position in regards to either, but he sure didn't keep his opinions a secret.
