Ruserious Ruserious:
EyeBrock EyeBrock:
Ruserious, you want to stand by your statement about the UK and Canada's stanadard of living comparisons?

You see I have this thing about making sure people who talk crap about my country of birth and the country I went to war for.

I just need you to sort this matter out, I couldn't give a toss about you jetting off there to visit 8 times in the past few years, really.
But I do care when you use blatant untruths to support your ramblings.
Um, jackass, yes I do stand by my statements that Canada and the UK have an equally blessed standard of living.

You see, I have this thing about making sure to refute those who disparage my country of birth and my family's country of birth as being somewhat less that stellar when it comes to a quality of life.

Unlike you EyeBrock, I'd be quite happy to move back over there. The quality of life is just as good there as it is here.

Jackass eh? Tut tut. Not a very English expression old bean.

By the EU charts the UK has a standard of living index shown as 24 600 Euros per population. That's about $29,000 US.
http://europa.eu.int/abc/keyfigures/liv ... ble_en.htm

If we look at Canada in Wikipedia (I know, I know, but it is easy to find) it puts the GDP per pop as $34,444.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada

If you are so patriotic about the UK why don't you go and stay there? But don't try and tell a Brit that has come to live here that life is better in the UK because it isn't.

If you can't even admit to an error in this , well you obviously just argue for the sake of it, even when you have been proved wrong.

Carry on voting Liberal. I'll leave the personal insults to you. I just deal with facts and opinions, not insults.

Cheers! I'd fly Air Canada to LHR if I was you, the chicks are way hotter.

DerbyX @ Sat Jan 14, 2006 2:18 pm

EyeBrock EyeBrock:
Derby, that "index" was a load of crap though really. I'd prefer to go on a "GDP per pop" index to give me a real insight into realtive standards of living.

UN Human Devlopment Index

Eyebrock Eyebrock:
The Liberals have little to do with the fact that our economy has grown for the past 8-10 years. I'd say it's grown despite the Liberals.

Sorry you are wrong a being a little dishonest. If it were the cons in charge for the last 12 years you wouldn't be saying that.

The Liberals had a strong economic plan for Canada and it because of their leadership Canada has a far better economical outlook then we did back in the early 90's.

EyeBrock EyeBrock:
This is the period of huge worldwide growth, the Liberals had bollocks all today with the planet moving forward.

I disagree. They new when to cut interest rates and why, they knew hwo to get industry to invest in Canada when loads of it were going to mexico and india. They deserve the credit for what they did.

EyeBrock @ Sat Jan 14, 2006 2:20 pm

Derby, I know you are committed on the Libs and I'm a die-hard Tory, we won't agree on this but I respect your opinion.

Not to be impolite, but Stats are numbers to me and in no way really paint a true picture of what goes on in a nation.
I can't argue with that dimoreien. But since EyeBrock didn't believe the stats which DerbyX provided him because they didn't suit his beliefs, I gave him another set which once again proved him wrong.

Truth of the matter is, it would all depend upon how well off you or your family are as to how you'd view what life might be like in another country.
Where many in the U.K. seem to think that life in Canada might be better.. they tend to forget that the reason they think that is because they've been able to take advantage of the difference in the two countries currencies.

That's true Ruserious!

It's interesting highlighting differences between countries, but I think the one thing we can all see eye to eye on is that politics at its core definitely doesn't change from country to country ;) Same hoopla everywhere! Man, they're sure trying to make life difficult for Tony Blair here. lol

politics, it makes liars and flamers of us all. Take Pluggy for instance. He and I see eye to eye on many things but politics just doesn't happen to be one of them. Same as you. You both certainly hold the same opinion about the seperatists as I do. You might even be a Leaf fan.

Er….. the stats that Derby provided show Canada (#5) higher up the table than the UK.(#15).

Nice try though, but you are still wrong. Currency fluctuates, standards of living don't follow FOREX patterns. Having been paid in both currencies and getting a FFR (fixed Forces rate) while I was in Canada serving the British Crown I know both the advantages and disadvantages of living by FOREX rates. You are clutching at straws old bean.

Name me a few things cheaper in the UK than Canada.

You are still wrong and watching you squirm from an indefensible position is quite amusing. Do carry on.

PS I love you too Derby!

Care to try again EyeBrock...

If you are so patriotic about the UK why don't you go and stay there? But don't try and tell a Brit that has come to live here that life is better in the UK because it isn't.
Someone has to defend this country from all you right wing religious nutters.
And just because you couldn't make it over there, don't try and tell those of us who have family and interests over there who have made a good go of it that the quality and standard of life isn't just as good over there as it is here.

Heathrow? Sorry, I prefer Gatwick and if you'd like to try a better airline, you'll find Virgin's service is that much better.

Now of course, it's too bad that good old Wardair weren't still around...

EyeBrock @ Sat Jan 14, 2006 3:05 pm

Fin Facts? There’s a well sourced , rock solid Web Site if I ever saw one. I went from Wikipedia, the European Union and the UN all agree that Canada beats out the UK.

http://europa.eu.int/abc/keyfigures/liv ... ble_en.htm
http://hdr.undp.org/statistics/data/ind ... =8&y=1&z=1
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canada

I’m sure you can find some back-up from the “Small Boys who left England as a child fact book” but hey, I’ll go by the UN and the EU’s figures as being the more reliable ones, I’m old fashioned that way. I make sure my sources are reliable.

It doesn’t matter how many ways you look at this Ruserious, you are WRONG!

I was doing quite well in the UK but I’m afraid my living standards paled to what they were when I was in Labrador. I’m doing much better here than all my old colleagues are in the UK. Anyway, enough of your deny, deny ,deny ,tactics. You are still wrong. The standard of living is better in Canada than the UK, so say the UN, the EU and the mighty wikipedia.

Not exactly facts pulled out of me arse, more a direct quote from the people who give us the facts really!

I really am disappointed in you ruserious, you struck me as a half decent debater. Obviously my initial assessment of you was wrong.

By the way, I may be right wing but I’m a lapsed catholic. No loony Christian types here!

I do agree with you about Wardair though, great airline and well missed. There, you can be right about something! There’s a good chap eh?

danikyvor @ Sat Jan 14, 2006 3:15 pm

Another great airline that bit the dust?? CANADIAN AIRLINES, man Air Canada SUCKS.

LOL

I need to stop saying MAN.

That it is just Ruserious's way of refusing to admit to defeat. When he starts swearing and calling folks all sorts of not very inventive names he knows he is loosing an arguement. He tried in vane to cuss me out a week or so ago, but after being a miner for 5 years and a sailor for 15 his vocabulary just was not up to the task  nothing new there at all

So your sources are right but DerbyX's and mine aren't?
Oh okay then.. I'm hardly surprised that you'd resort to that type of response. Afterall, it's the same sort of move that you cons cling to when you don't agree with the numbers that don't agree with you.
Kind of like the SSM vote in the House of Commons.

$1:

No, you're wrong. See, unlike you I didn't need to capitalize the word to make a point. You're wrong.. plain and well, simple.

I was doing quite well in the UK but I’m afraid my living standards paled to what they were when I was in Labrador.
No offence meant to our fellow Labradorians but come on EyeBrock... are you trying to tell us that the U.K wasn't as good a living as it is in Labrador?

Okay so now either you're trolling or full of shit?
Which is it?

Really? Strange when I click on Wikpedia they say that the U.K ranks higher than us in GDP per pop.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_co ... per_capita

And apparently so does the World Bank and IMF

Not really.

I do agree with you about Wardair though, great airline and well missed. There, you can be right about something! There’s a good chap eh?
I'm right about much more than you'd care to recognise EyeBrock. That's okay though.. it's differences in opinion and proving others wrong that makes posting on these message boards that much more entertaining.

I think we can blame Freddie in part for Ward's demise

Martin, Harper and Layton are flying on the Executive Airbus to a gathering in British Columbia when Martin turns to Harper and says, chuckling,

"You know, I could throw a $1000 bill out the window right now
and make someone very happy."

Harper shrugs and replies, "Well, I could throw ten $100 bills out the window and make ten people happy." Not to be outdone,

Layton says, "Well I could throw a hundred $10 bills out the window and make a hundred people happy."

The pilot rolls his eyes and says to his co-pilot, "Such arrogant asses back there.

Hell, I could throw all three of them out the window and make 32 million people happy."
