Just out of curiosity, is there any reason to think that any of these new, part-time jobs created in September, are for work on the election?

I've only recently seen the job ads for returning officers now. I'm sure something like that would have been included in the article.

Good eye. Certainly they are a factor in month to month figures.

Elk valley coal corporation from BC is looking for major manpower also.

I applied there a couple months ago. Didn't hear a word.

My suggestion would be to fax a resume and then follow up with a phone call an hour later to confirm they got it.They have 5 mines in the valley and have been in the midst of another takeover so things can get lost fairly easy.I'm still trying to find my pension plan from them from 82

Who says that? I can't imagine it dropping that low unless somebody has found a way to turn sea water into a cheap viable feul.

The talking heads on my TV. I think it was on NewsWorld and CNN, but I wouldn't guarantee it.

I also wouldn't say that it's impossible. I remember the eighties when Alberta was mumbling about joining OPEC and everybody thought oil prices were just going to keep on rising forever, You couldn't buy a pick-up truck in Saskatchewan because the dealers couldn't keep them on the lot...kids would go work in Alberta for six months, then come home and buy a new truck. Then world prices dropped and Alberta crashed.

The thing is that everything is tied to the US economy. The US quits buying oil because its economy sucks, which drives prices down. Then emerging nations like China and India cut back their production because most of what they manufacture is for the US market. They use less oil so the prices drop again. Europe is cutting back too, affected by the US crash. Oil prices drop again.

At the same time, people are buying smaller cars, or not driving as much. More downward pressure on oil prices. It starts spiraling down.

I wouldn't say it's going to happen right, but it certainly could and Alberta is unprepared for it. It's happened before.

I was actually thinking of throwing another resume in just for fun. Couldn't hurt.

Something lots of people forget,Alberta's main energy export is gas,not oil.Thats natural gas, used to heat your homes and cook your meals and heat your water.

I though you said it was bitumem.

Havent checked but last year natural gas was our biggest export, probably not once the tarsands expansion happens though. Most of our energy industry is gas, allmost every well site I have built was for gas. With CBM taking off now you can basically drill anywhere and get methane and that in allmost all western provinces as there is coal under all of them. They also went from one CBM well per section to four so lots of gas, just no pipelines to ship it.

You work in nunavut though don't you?

It really doesn't matter how hard the left tries to spin this, it still makes Dion and Layton look like liars.

If the left is going to knit pick then perhaps they "inadverdantly" missed the part about 20,000 new MANUFACTURING jobs were created.

By the way, not all part time jobs are at Walmart and not everyone is looking for a full time job either. Spin spin spin. It's no wonder Dion keeps fumbling his words.

From the story quoted in the opening post:

Statistics Canada's latest employment report has smashed a previous record for job creation, surpassing forecasts with 107,000 new jobs in September. But 97,000 of them are part-time.

Wow, part-time jobs. Like at Wal-Mart. I guess Steve really loves those blue sweater-vests, because he wants everybody to wear one.

Okay, everybody here who can support themselves on a part time job, raise your hand.

Throw in the TD report that Derby posted and the picture is pretty dim indeed.

Part time jobs are better then job loses, atleast those people can get part time jobs compared to being able to get nothing.

Part time jobs can support a family, they just won't be living the luxury's they were before and have to make some sacrafices.

Heres a situation, you were just laid off because your job was out-sourced to India. You are having a hard time finding a job with simular pay in the same field you had your old job. What would you rather have? Job lose, where you have no other options or increase of jobs even if majority of them are part time where that person can atleast get a part time job for some income while he works on trying to get a job in his old field with that simular pay.

A income in money, is better than no income at all.

Well said Bacardi. Are you sure you're an NDP supporter? You certainly don't sound like one. :)
