Seriously dude. Move on already. By carrying on like this, you're no better than the Count or any of those loonies.

Just add this to the category of 'Shit Happens' and carry on. No need to keep beating a dead horse.

I dunno. I recall the Feds allowing all those planes the couldn't land in the US to land in Canada, and seems we sent a soldier or two to Astan to help our ally when it was attacked.

Unfortunately we kept them there when it turned from defeating Al Qaeda to nation building, at great futile loss of life and limbs, while Shrubster took his eye off the ball, decided to play silly buggers in Iran instead. All in all Chretien did Canada proud: there for an ally when needed, but setting an independent course, not just asking how high, when that ally went off the rails.

I was referring to the days after the attacks before Bush gave his SOTU Sept 20, 2001.

Jean Chretien was positively the worst, most useless prime minister that I have seen in my lifetime ...and probably during the whole history of our nation. Chretien shamed Canada by not retiring when Trudeau did.

I completely disagree with that statement. If I had been sleeping from 1998 until now though, I suppose I wouldn't know anything.

Uh...Brian Mulroney & Stephen Harper. They were & are horrible.

Cretien turned deficits into surpluses and Harpo turned them back into deficits. I don't mind Conservatives but blind conservatives are really beyond understanding.

Adscam and the Shawinigate Shuffle were Chretien's real legacy to this country. Add in covering Alphonso Gagliano's ass as well as making the return of Ahmed Khadr, a major Al Qaeda figure, to Canada from jail in Pakistan. Toss in the spectacle of making the Canadian military so subservient to the UN that we had things like the Rwandan genocide occur while a Canadian general was in charge of UN forces in that country as well as Canadian peacekeepers being tossed to the dogs in Yugoslavia which Serbian militia found so amusing they handcuffed a Canadian officer to a tree and used him as a photo-op. And how about botching relationships with Quebec so much that, just like his mentor Pierre Trudeau, he nearly lost the country altogether in the second Quebec separation referendum. Chretien is the last person to be pointing fingers at any PM that followed him. He was the most crooked PM in Canadian history, and one of the most dismally ineffective, and probably always will be.

Cretien turned deficits into surpluses

Martin turned deficits into surpluses....and then when he became PM, Chretien and his cronies did everything they could to fuck him over.

Cretien was in charge.

Thanos @ Mon Sep 14, 2015 11:24 am

And the deficit was "busted" by raiding the EI and CPP surpluses as well as by downloading massive costs onto the provincial governments. Not only did Chretien hammer the provinces by taking away money designated for the medical systems he also threatened them with lawsuits under the Canada health act to prevent them from privatizing or streamlining any of the system to make it more efficient.

This is what Lib lovers always forget whenever they rave about the deficit busting of Martin and Chretein. I always use the comparison to a home owner who decides that his neighbor will now pay both mortgages. It's easy to get rid of a deficit if you stop paying your bills.

smorgdonkey @ Mon Sep 14, 2015 11:35 am

So...what you are saying is that the Conservatives reversed those policies?

Wrong.

Paul Martin turned deficits into surpluses, in spite of old Jean. Eventually the party dumped 't Jean.

Jean Chreitien obviously didn't care about Canada because a personal vendetta was more important.

Please don't start calling the offloading of Federal health care costs to Provincial Gov'ts and the raping of someone's huge pension fund balancing the budget.

It was at best misuse and misappropriation of funds on the highest level. Hell, even I could balance a budget if I was allowed to take someone else's money to do it.

Chretien obviously didn't care about the safety of the country's servicemen when he cancelled the EH-101 helocopter, at considerable expense too, merely for an election time punch line.
