I just try and ignore it. Some people I tell ya. (in refrence to McRobert)

I really have to give ol' Dion some credit. For the amount of abuse that man is taking on his Green Shift he is sticking to his guns on it. The biggest problem I see with all of the oppositions plans is where the hell are they going to get all of this money? I can see Layton making absurd commitments because under him we would all be working for the "Socialist State of Canada" but Dion has been throwing out some doozies as well. I think he'd be better off sticking with his original plan and minimizing any further commitments as people are all ready leery of his Green Shift. Adding additional promises will just make the public more sceptical of his "revenue neutral" claim.

Ah we had people over the debate last night. There was one sullen Conservative who pouted in corner all night and refused to share his whiskey with anyone, then puked in driveway as his wife guided him to the car. His wife, undecided but definitely not voting Conservative, is a nice woman who seems to drink only tap water. We also had a couple of Liberals who seemed to find the concept of listening instead of talking to be somewhat foreign. One of them converted to the NDP last night though. Of course she lives in Charleswood, so she might as well eat her ballot, but what the hell?

Harper appeared to have stayed off drugs the entire night. He still looked disengaged and detached. Layton nailed him good a couple of times. The sweater vest thing was funny, but "Either you don't care or you're incompetent," thing really nailed it.

Dion had some good moments too. His English was good, his points were clear. He nailed Harper on lying about the Green Shift too. Go to the page where Harper claims there are $26 billion in cuts and have a look...Harper is lying by including only two of the numbers on the page. He also had a good point about the economy...doing nothing is not a plan.

May had her facts in line and managed to avoid tying everything to the environment. She showed her party actually has other policies. She managed to call Harper a fraud again last night, and to repeat it three times again too. Perhaps she's into numerology or something.

For the record, Harper said, "Let's be clear" 36 times last night (one of the Liberals kept a tally) and only once did he follow it with anything that could be considered an explanation of anything.

ridenrain @ Fri Oct 03, 2008 6:29 am

The reason that Harper had to keep saying "clearly" and explaining things is simply because the other parties simply don't understand the US credict crunch, how our banks are different and how we are protected by that. They don't want to tell the truth or the reality, they just want to spin it into fear that they can get votes from.

Reverend Blair @ Fri Oct 03, 2008 6:30 am

He said. "Let's be clear," 36 times, riden. He followed that phrase up with meaningless bafflegab 35 times.

We could turn the tables and compare that to the number of tiles these 3 opposition candidates likened Harper to Bush.

$1:
“We have not been following the same economic policies as in the United States that have led to that mess. We have not made those choices, which have been disastrous…..We’ve made very different choices in Canada and we have a surplus.” - Prime Minister Stephen Harper

That's PM material. A thorough understanding, no hype and a calm, patient and clear explanation.

I agree with all of this. I thought it was a good debate. I was impressed at how well Harper could take a beating but I think he really lost the point during the economy part. I was actually able to get a clear view of some ideas the other 4 had in between the bashing. Harper just seems to want to keep doing what he's doing which isn't good enough for me but that's why I'm not conservative I guess.

I understand that we are not following Bush's path but the American economy affects us regardless.

Oh, and talk about eating your ballot, I was 1 of 3 in my area last election who voted NDP. Not everyone in Alberta is conservative

Guh, I'm changing the channel, tonight's debate is just a bunch of stupid bickering.

Apparently speaking in french makes people civil, who knew?

Johnny_Utah Johnny_Utah:
Nice derailing of a thread, hmm where have I heard that before?

Yes, my comment on the bickering between candidates compared to the french debate constitutes derailing the thread - so much so that it continued on for another seven pages and counting.

Surely that's not as relevant as your "Who's The Fat Lesbian?" comment.

Idiot.

You quoted my negative comment/point I gave you? Your a whinny little bitch! ROTFL

I don't think over reacting to the financial crisis is the answer either. One big thing I think Stevey is doing right is he's trying to convey confidence in our economy. Anyone who has more than their RRSP's tied up in a bunch of mutuals realizes how important this is.

Not to mention what exactly would the opposition like him to do? Like it or not our markets are at the mercy of the US markets but unlike the US we are no where near in as bad as shape as they are. Yes the ingredients are there in our housing markets if housing takes a nose dive but one of the biggest differences is that the majority of our credit is fairly solid so long as there aren't major job loses nation wide.

We are in no way invulnerable to the US but I think we will weather what ever comes our way much better.
