Vancouver at Anaheim
Fresh off their first win of the season two nights ago against the Panthers, the Vancouver Canucks (1-0-1) embark on their first road trip of the season - a two-game swing through California - beginning tonight at the Honda Center where they look to spoil the home opener for the Anaheim Ducks (0-3-0).
This is the first of four meetings between the teams. Each team won twice in 2009-10, with Anaheim winning the first two contests before Vancouver bounced back to win the last two.
While the Canucks' offence is still trying to find its stride, one player that appears to be in mid-season form already is Roberto Luongo, has stopped 72 of 74 shots combined in his first two starts along with a .973 save percentage and will now be looking to pick up points in a third straight game to start the season for the first time since joining the Canucks. He'll also be looking to snap a personal three-game winless skid against the Ducks (0-1-2) dating back to March 11, 2009.
The Canucks will get some help on the injury front tonight as Rick Rypien, who missed all-but-one pre-season game plus the first two regular season contests with a rib injury, is expected to make his season debut tonight. Rypien will likely slot into the fourth line centre spot between Tanner Glass and Guillaume Desbiens.
Alexandre Bolduc is out with an ankle injury.
Alex Burrows is still recovering from shoulder surgery.
Sami Salo is out until at least December.
