No, see we are NOT arguing what teenagers say. We are arguing about what ignorant people in general say. Whether you are a teenager or 30 years old. It has become a slur that people use and thinks its ok. It isnt. It is no different than any racial slur. Whether your buddies thinks its ok does not mean it is.

Just becuase some of the gay friends you have either dont want to say otherwise to sound like a pussy, or if they just dont care still does not mean its ok.

Using "gay" as a denotation to putting someone down is not ok, and never will be. You just wont get it. I dont even know why I am bothering here.

Having two unelected people set policy is a bad idea. Having two people as consultants (who probably aren't making a dime) with no mandate to use their recommendations is no big deal apart from the political mileage possible.

Choice v. nature v. nurture is really a non issue for me. Why should things that are cultural or a choice be exempt from Human Rights. Are most "Christians" lemmings by choice or is it hard wired? Doesn't really make a difference. As long as they aren't violating other laws, I don't care all that much. Should it make a difference if they're born that way, or only if they convert later in life?

Democracy. If the majority get to set social norms, do straight people have to have gay sex in gay or gay friendly areas? They may have to be straight today, but tomorrow? Perhaps there should be a religious component to schools. Everyone can go on field trips to Churches, Mosques, Synagogues, and Aphrodite's Temple :twisted:

Should we force kids to have books in their libraries that mention Christianity? Should Christianity, sexuality, race be stripped from mention in any book found in publically funded venues? Should we tax religious property in the same way we tax strip joints?

In terms of the debate over whether using the word "gay" is a derogatory thing or not, I'd have to go with "no"

The only time I could see it as such is if something goes amiss or awry and people moan & groan & sometimes blurt out "Well that's gay!"

...but that doesn't mean "gay" = "bad" 100% of the time.

I mean, think about it. The alternative phrase up there would be "Well that sucks!" and sucking can be very good indeed!!

....but I digress. I would say that the "derogatory" terms for being gay, would be "Queer" or "Faggot" ...I don't class "gay" in anywhere near the same category as those.

"Gay" is to Homosexuals, what "Straight" is to Heterosexuals.
