Canadian Lawmakers React To Israeli Strikes

I doubt that guy is alive now.

Zipperfish Zipperfish:
I've reached the same conclusion. This exact same situation has been going since I was born, and a long time before then. At some point, you have to realize that if it's been that way for nigh on 80 years, then there must be some satisfaction for the status quo.
Palestinians can continue along with massively corrupt governance by using the list of grievances Israel is happy to provide. Israel can ignore the legitimate plight of displaced Palestinians and continue happily pushing them off the edge of the map with encroaching settlements, justifying their actions by Palestinian terrorism.
It's not our war and we have no responsibility towards either side. It doesn't affect us domestically in the slightest, except for some people's angry emotions maybe causing some vandalism or some street fights. And it rarely impedes on any of our foreign policy interests, in that Canada even has a recognizable foreign policy anymore. It's long past time to put an end to any pearl-clutching over it, especially when there is quite literally no solution to anything over there. Countries like ours need to concentrate on things we can fix and make better, and not do more pointless virtue-signaling that is a complete waste of everyone's time.
Cold-hearted maybe but in reality this is nothing to us but a yearly fireworks display where some people get killed. And the same thing is happening elsewhere too right now and where-ever it's happening doesn't even get a line of press coverage. The mature thing to do is to just stay away from all if it no matter where it occurs and no matter who it happens to.

I bet you would have said the same thing in 85'

I remember Desmond Tutu visiting Canada in those days and saying what he saw on our Native reserves was just as bad, or even worse, as what the South African townships were like. And no "woke" Canadian of the time seemed to care too much about it at all.

So wait, your equivalating now. Are natives in Canada not getting access to clean water now on par? I thought you said 'It doesn't affect us domestically in the slightest'.
Thanos @ Thu May 13, 2021 7:03 pm
I meant Israel/Palestine, which you well know.
Scape @ Thu May 13, 2021 7:12 pm
Justice/Injustice is blind.
Looking at the Jewish/Palestinian Canadian vote is just a small piece. Comrades in arms that are sympathetic to the plight also have a stake. How on earth are we to have commerce in a civil society if laws are meaningless?
A guy like Mohammed El-Kurd comes across a lot better than the weirdos of Hamas or the corrupt old geezers of Fatah’s leadership

At a certain point in every Palestinian’s life, we realize that the Nakba is far from over. It continues every time Israel revokes Jerusalem residencies. It blares in street signs stripped of Arabic. It punctures us in constant campaigns of dehumanization. In a recent TV interview, my father said, “They aren’t evicting us from our homes; they’re evicting us from our humanity.” What we are witnessing in Sheikh Jarrah is Israel’s attempt to erase the Palestinian presence from our native city in real time.
https://www.thenation.com/article/world ... -settlers/https://www.democracynow.org/2021/5/13/ ... _jerusalemWithin Israel proper, the state has a serious problem between its Arab minority and a growing segment of Trumpian hooligans on the Israeli right whom Netanyahu has encouraged. The current situation in Lod and elsewhere seems quite like Belfast in the late Sixties where the police were seen as a sectarian paramilitary force supporting one side.

We'd like to open this meeting by acknowledging this proposed mall is being built on traditional Palestinian land. So much for the reconciliation part.
Oh! And no Palestinian workers need apply.
Forget about Gaza and the West Bank for a moment - Netanyahu has been stoking anti-Arab bigotry in his own country for years:

The current crisis suits him.

An Israeli airstrike targeted and destroyed a highrise building in Gaza City that housed offices of The Associated Press and other media outlets hours after another Israeli air raid on a densely populated refugee camp killed at least 10 Palestinians from an extended family on Saturday.
The strike on the highrise came nearly an hour after the military ordered people to evacuate the 12-storey building, which also housed Al Jazeera, other offices and residential apartments.
The strike brought down the entire structure, which collapsed in a gigantic cloud of dust.

The IDF pulled a fast one here and involved many foreign journalists in their ruse:

This undermines trust and puts journalists under greater danger in Palestinian-controlled territory.
