Chaos is a ladder and in a country that has had how many elections in the last year? Netanyahu still with all his corruption charges is still running the show. It's inescapable to come to the conclusion that this was orchestrated by him to keep his grip on power. That is a war crime.

The Onion as always is scarily on point.

Seven dead inside Israel so far. Way less than the retaliatory death count but let's not pretend the response came out of nowhere and for no reason. Just because Palestinian weaponry is primitive compared to what the Israelis have doesn't give them an out when they start firing hundreds of their damn rockets at Jewish homes and schools.

I'm sure Hitler said the same thing about the Polish in 1944.

100 years it won't matter, they will be exterminated.

Thanos @ Wed May 12, 2021 5:32 pm

That's plain silly. Hitler would have just gone in and killed them all long before they had any chance to build any homemade weaponry.

Palestinians aren't going anywhere. They have too fecund a population to ever disappear. And I'll put this down as just another one of those sorts of conversations that go along the lines of "the cop shouldn't have shot that guy who was trying to stab him with a knife because they weren't equally armed".

Scape @ Wed May 12, 2021 5:48 pm

I don't see the Palestinians as saints, more like cornered rats. It would be foolish to think there would not be a violent reaction but we are not talking about the violence per se but the scale.

They are not the same people that they were in 1967. They are a shadow of that and yet the use of force by the state of Israel has turned Gaza into an open air prison which is being slowly claimed by force to evict them. We are witnessing a genocide in slow motion.

On the bright side we can see this as a return to 'normal' post pandemic.

I have never understood this critique where the superior armed side takes all the heat for actually utilizing the advantage in arms. War is not a Marquis of Queensbury type of thing. If someone is advancing on me on a horse armed with a lance, I am under no obligation to respond in kind. I am free to whip out my Glock 19 and blow his ass away. Its the old "bringing a lance to a gunfight" type of thing. Anyone that stupid deserves what they get.

Ditto with firing rockets into civilian neighborhoods. Don't whine when the other guy responds with 2000 lb. laser guided contact bombs, or 750 lb. napalm bombs, or 500 lb. cluster bombs. The enemy does NOT have to come down to your level. Never have, never will.

Scape @ Wed May 12, 2021 5:59 pm

Which then leads to the question why not get it over with and kill them all already?

Thanos @ Wed May 12, 2021 6:01 pm

I have very difficult time feeling much sympathy for anyone over in that region anymore. At this stage I regard it as they all sort of deserve each other. The proportionality argument does bother me though, in that a hard response ends violence sooner and saves more lives in the short run. And Israel has done things in the past like targeted assassinations instead of aerial bombings or ground incursions in response to attacks, and it meant nothing because new terrorist leaders would just spring up over night.

The sad reality is that the last intafadah back in the 00's sort of destroyed the Israeli's hesitation to drop the hammer down as hard as they're obviously capable of doing. That's because the targets that were attacked by the Palestinians in that terrorist campaign, like weddings/transit buses/schools/restaurants, crossed a major line. It also effectively destroyed the Israeli left-wing too, and has resulted in hardcases like Sharon first and now Netanyahu being able to inflict massive retaliation without any significant domestic opposition anymore.

Glad it's not something we don't have to endure in our part of the world. I don't have the energy or care enough anymore to waste on giving a damn about what happens over there.
