It's spam, it's blog-whoring, but it is relevant and it is valid content for CKA. I give it a +1.

Although I agree some extent of the bilingualism policy in the country and it's pendulum has swung a little to far to the left. But don't take my word for it take it from some francophone people I know that embarassingly feel that way.

I called an insurance company in Ottawa, it was french first. I thought English was the majority language spoken in Ottawa ?

I mean the French-first policy at the Vancouver Winter Olympics is kind of a little kooky you have to admit, not to many howls of protest about it. But if it was english first there probably would of been.

Regardless you can't talk about this subject without cries of bigotry that will soon to follow in this thread in order to shut down any discussion regarding the matter.

Sad but its the way it is.

Just for fun, I voted "I'm not".

Even funnier, at the bottom of my page, since my browser is a French install, I see...

Afficher les résultats
Nombre de votes jusqu'à présent : 3
Nombre de jours avant la fin du vote : 787

...and the vote button says "Voter".

The guys does have a point though regarding the Olympics since its a world event. I have no problems what so ever with both languages being spoken as it should be. But if French is spoken first people around the world will think French is the majority language spoken in Canada when it isn't.

I tried once to reply but being a newbie must have done something wrong as it didn't show up - have no idea where it went.

This is not meant to be SPAM. I'm an English Canadian that has had enough of the federal government new policy of French ahead of English promoting it as the language of the majority of Canadians. I'm attempting to gather support to try to get this policy turned around - there may be a better way of doing it but this is what I came up with.

The Olympic language thing had already been discussed here.

$1:
When announcements are made at the Games, they are made in French, English, and the language of the host country, in that order.

It had nothing to do with Canadian language issues.

sandorski @ Sat Nov 06, 2010 2:11 pm

No. There are real issues of far greater importance to be focused on. This is just a waste of everybodys time.

Wow, I am English Canadian too. Live in Saskatchewan and have one thing for you:

but thought about it and thought this might be more along your line.

I didn't know that if that's true. So the previous winter Olympics was held in the US. They were doing all the announcements in the U.S. in French first ?

Yeah, I'm thinking big bullshit here. The whole French first at the Olympics royally pissed me off - just one more reason to dislike bilingualism, I guess.
