"However, politically-oriented camps are being organized in several U.S. states by chapters of the "9/12 Project" -- an organization founded by Beck himself in 2009."
Alex Pareene at Salon writes of the camp: “I can't even write jokes about what the children will do at this camp, because the Tea Party people have predicted all of the jokes and made them real.”
For example, the camp will teach kids about the gold standard by giving them candies and paper as currency at the beginning of the week, and then only paper money after that. Over time, students will see their paper money buy less and less, while the candies will retain their value.
What's more disturbing than what Beck said is the fact that it's not so far off the mark. Really, what the hell is with a 'summer camp' whose purpose is teaching kids the correct political viewpoints?
Beck was off the mark with the Hitler Youth comment because this Worker's Youth League more closely resembles the Soviet Union's Young Pioneers.

Or is it only when the left has events to get young people involved that's it's wrong...
Or any youth wing of any political party, for that matter. And let's not forget, some of these "campers" in Norway are in their late teens and early 20s and it's hardly fair to say they're victims of indoctrination. And, of course, this has NOTHING to with the Hitler-Jugend.

Oh...it's off the mark.
No, I've heard plenty of things from my father-in-law who was in the Hitler Youth and he made clear that the Hitler Youth was principally interested in teaching military skills to the kids and he never once heard anything political.
The Hitler Youth were tools and they were not intended to be leaders.
These kids at Utoya came from the leading families of Norway's Labour Party elite - including the Royal Family - and these kids were being indoctrinated to become the next generation of political leaders because they're the kids of today's Norwegian leftist political leaders.
That is what made these kids targets. Breivik didn't just kill 68 kids, he killed 68 of the kids who were being groomed to be the leftist elite of Norway's future. He's batsh*t crazy, but from his point of view I can see how what he did may have made sense to him. He attacked the leftist leadership of today with his bomb and he attacked the leftist leaders of tomorrow with his guns.
Odds are, Breivik killed kids who were destined to be Ministers and party leaders. His logic was appallingly cold blooded and regardless of his motivations I'm left sorry for the fact that Norway won't give this guy the execution he so richly deserves.

Oh...i'm well aware of what went on at the para-military element of the HJ which focused on future global struggles, hyper-nationalism, race-based theories, anti-Semitism, and inclusive membership (based on race). This is not what is going on in Norway. No amount of forcing the parallel will change the fact that this has NOTHING to do with the HJ.
Beck can't help it. He's just a genuinely awful person and it's in his nature to behave this way. All that poison builds up in his heart and in his head until it just has to burst out, like happens when a doctor slices open a pus-and-blood filled abcess.
Take the high road and pity Beck for being what he is. He'll never be good because it's not his destiny to be so. Just turn away from him and use him as one of the many glaring examples of how not to behave in your own personal life.
But Beck has millions of followers who now fervently believe that the Norwehgian killer wiped out a bunch of Hitler youth. Those people will never hear any opposing viewpoint, because anyone besides Beck and hisrabid cohorts are part of the "liberal MSM."
And let's be blunt - the only reason Beck and his mindless automatons are even commenting is because this is a political camp with a leftish ideology (the HJ comparison is so laughable it's sad). This is a politically-motivated diatribe centred on anything even remotely left of centre and i'll wait to see if any semblance of balance emerges when the same vitriolic comments are directed at Mormon camps, 9/12 camps and the like.
What's wrong with simply educating kids and then letting them decide for themselves what viewpoints they'll choose to have?
Nothing at all. That's not what you did wrong. What you did is try to glorify a sociopathic child killer by comparing his victims to some of the scummiest people ever to have inhabited the earth. That's what's wrong.

Now you're going over the edge. The kids in the Hitler Youth were no more deserving of death than these kids at Utoya.
