This is still pretty ridiculous to me

Well, for me, it really ruined my enjoyment of the movie Dodgeball, which is annoying because I actually got off my butt and forked over $9.95 for the DVD.

Hard for Lance to wiggle his way outta this. Good on the USADA for releasing the evidence. I think it leaves no question what was taking place. Brutal.

Is this going to be another "Pete Rose" type situation? Deny it for decades and then finally admit to it?

Thanos @ Thu Oct 11, 2012 9:01 am

It still begs the question as to why one man got singled out in a sporting activity where it's demonstrably provable that practically all the other participants were "cheating" as well. Headhunting of the most famous and successful participant, pure and simple. And what the hell is a group as notoriously filthy and corrupt themselves as the United States Congress doing investigating sports at all? The blatant hypocrisy of it all is absolutely delicious.

How was he singled out, exactly? Alberto Contador and Floyd Landis both lost their TDF wins. Ulrich never tested positive but was banned anyway, I think for Ecstasy in the off season. Eddy Merckx tested positive, just not in the TDF. The list of shame is a long one.

The argument seems to have shifted from "there's no proof" to "they all did it so why go after him"

$1:
All of this is according to the United States Anti-Doping Agency in a 202-page report which rips the sheen off Armstrong and exposes him as the greatest fraud in the history of American sports.
No one with an objective mind can deny the damning facts uncovered in what amounts to a Mount Everest of testimony from witness after witness, all of whom point to Armstrong as the godfather of a sophisticated doping scheme aimed to accomplish one thing: win the biggest bike race in the world.

Does this mean all the people who were defending Armstrong on this thread and crying "witchhunt" a while back are now on board with the reality that Armstrong is a cheating piece of shit?

Well, Thanos has switched to the "they all do it so why go after him defence." Don't know about the others.

Nope. My standard is still the same, as it would be for a tax cheat, pedophile or axe murderer.

Proof.

They have his urine and blood samples. Analyze them. What proof do they have that he was doping? What is in those samples that shows what they claim; that he was running a ring of cheaters for the purpose of winning the TdF.

So if you have a bunch of witnesses that see somebody shoot a person, then runs off and ditches the weapon, you would say there's no proof, can't convict?

If you read the whole piece that I linked to, you'd see how they circumvented the drug tests. But if he's in the team bus, shooting up with others, and they testify to that, that's not proof?

I don't consider Armstrong a fraud at all. A cheat maybe, but he was still the champion in a field full of cheaters.

Same goes for Ben Johnson, whose only crime was getting caught.

How many people have had wrongful convictions overturned because of flawed 'eyewitness' testimony?

I wouldn't be surprised if he did all of these things. But I will not convict a man based only on eyewitness testimony. Besides, this is a court of public opinion. And that is my opinion.

his former teammates claim he used EPO, testosterone, human growth hormone, cortisone and blood transfusions.

To my knowledge, there are tests for all these things. Except the blood, but I think an A1c might work.
