A European view of Canada vs. the USA
$1:
And why shouldn't they be screaming about the attack. War was declared - not by the guys in white hats either but by the guys in black robes. Do you suggest we sit back and wait for the next one?
Dear me, that happened already didn't it.
Now we have a 3/11 - and nary a peep from you or your ilk. Wanna bet there will be another one?
Your capacity to hate the US from the safety of your monitor is truly astounding and sick.
Your capacity to miss the point of everything and to refuse to actually think about problems is surpassed only by your inability to shut the hell up, Karra.
Nobody is saying that we shouldn't fight terrorism. I am saying that it is wrong to kill civilians. It doesn't matter who does it, it is wrong. There are no guys in white hats and plenty of people wear black robes.
If you were to look at the roots of terrorism; actually look at them, Karra; it would become apparent to you that there are causes that have an awful lot to do with how we marginalise whole societies. The US has been one of the worst offenders over the last fifty years, so they are one of the biggest targets.
Spain is a target not only because of their involvement with the US, but because they also have a long record of oppressing and harming people.
Going after terrorists is fine, but killing civilians does two things...it makes you one of the terrorists, and creates a whole bunch of new terrorists willing to bomb you.
karra @ Sun Mar 14, 2004 2:41 pm
Don't be so naive.
Of course no one wants civilians to be killed/maimed. It happens and there's a term for it - collateral damage. Wouldn't it be a lovely world if civilians didn't get hurt/maimed/killed. But then who would terrorists target I wonder?
And just who did they attack on 9/11 and 3/11?
Grow up, your capacity for naivete is only surpassed by your ability to spout the usual hard left rhetoric.

Excellent. Glad you've solved it whilst the best minds in the world are still exerting huge amounts of effort to make a determination as to who is actually responsible.
Is there anyone out there who is not oppressed and harmed?

Oh so you mean this next war will be Islam vs. the rest of us. So you agree with those who believe its not just the extremists but ALL Muslims are terrorists on borderline terrorists. ThatÂ’s a very racist thing to say, itÂ’s like saying all western white males are members of the KKK. IÂ’m not...are you?

I know war is bad...But I am A REALIST
IÂ’m a socialist. But i don't think it a given to think good people have to die to preserve peace.
People have been saying that we are living in the end times for as long as anyone can remember, Feeko. Revelations has been said to be coming true for every decade since the Bible was first put together.
All Muslims are not terrorists just as all Christians do not follow the misleading rhetoric of the far Christian right. You sound like you are hoping for a holy war, Feeko. One that will reaffirm your faith and have heathens like me begging for conversion. Good luck with that.
Karra:
Collateral damage is a term that covers up the real truth. Let's call it what it is...murdering innocent civilians. Civilians do die in war. It is also against the Geneva Conventions to purposely target them or recklessly endanger them. The US did both in Afghanistan and in Iraq. That makes the US leaders war criminals...no better than Osama himself.
It makes those that support and apologise for George Bush no better than those who cheered when the twin towers were attacked.
I'm not naive at all, little girl. You don't like when I criticise the United States for their crimes? Tough. That's not a display of naivete, it's a display of actually having looked around and seen what is really going on. You should give it a shot. It would be refreshing to see you actually learn something, to see you break free from the prison of denial and half-truth..

Wrong again - it's just a term.

I have absolutely no problem with you criticising the United States - but in your hate and hurry to castigate and convict you forgo due process - the bile and hate you spew against that country and its fine people is surely worthy of a psychiatric review which would I don't doubt find your feet firmly cemented to the left of the hard left.
Having said that, rest assured that it comforts me to know you will never suffer from hemorrhoids.
AdamNF @ Mon Mar 15, 2004 7:32 am
WasnÂ’t Collateral Damage a bad Schwarzenegger film?
My opinion of the USA seems to changed depending on the goverment, which i know is the wrong way to think. I miss Clinton
That isn't the wrong way to think though, Adam. What we really don't like is US policy that hurts us and others. The American people themselves are pretty much like people all over the world. Clinton was no great shakes, but he was miles better than Bush.

Then why don't you just go ahead and say that world war 2 was completely unjustified instead of being an anti-American asshole.
Now wait just a minute. I totally agree that with the decision to go to war against Germany and Japan, they needed to be stopped. But that had nothing to do with “an eye for an eye”. We had to stop Germany and Japan to preserve peace and freedom. We had to fight them.
We had to fight them, but it's unjustified to bomb them? What do you suggest, throw stones? We had to fight them, but killing them or any civilians is unjustified? I thought you said that because someone commits an terrible act against someone, that they don't have the right to commit one back....yet we had to fight them? I would think that you would say the US doing anything against Japan would be unjustified.
On another note, I read a post by someone talking about people screaming about how terrible the acts on Sept. 11th were. Well, here's my view: The US government caused the bad feelings among the terrorists with their policies, and the terrorists act was bond to happen. Im not going to scream about how the US didn't deserve it, and how it was a completely unjustified act. I think it was a wake up call from the terrorists to Americans. As far as world war 2 goes though, Japan attacked the US, and whatever happened to Japan after that is their own fault for making the decision to attack the US. It's like someone picking on someone bigger than them, and you get your ass kicked big time.
So what if I write paragraphs. I like to write paragraphs.

Why do you only criticise the US though? The US isn't the only country that commits crimes. The world is full of countries which commit crimes against humanity. Who even really cares that the US commits these crimes? What's the point of being critical if you have no answers? All the bitching in the world doesn't make you better or anything than the person who commits the crimes. I know the US has done alot of "crimes", but at the same time I know that so many other countries commit these crimes and that it's just human. Americans are just as good, just as bad, just as stupid, just as smart, as any other country, and to cut them down and criticise them all the time really doesn't make you look like a better person, it just means that you know all the negative things of a country. I myself laugh at the propaganda and the extremely patriotic people on tv, but that doesn't mean I'm above them and that I'm any better, and I know I really have no place to criticise. We're all going to the same place, so why not worry about things like being happy and ways to be happy as an individual, instead of fighting losing wars in getting people to view the world like you do?

You're biased and you really have no place to cut down my ways of writing when you yourself are no better. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree, because I don't think your right, and you don't think im right, and neither of us is going to get the other to give in.
I don't get it, how is The Bomb, and Bombs different?....they both kill people.

I guess it's only okay to flatten a city if it's with normal bombs, and not THE BOMB.
