You're quite right Tman - although it's always fun bating the Americans, especially the one's who believe that they can nuke everyone into total submission and subservience..........back to the original thread....
A European view of Canada vs. the USA
The Brits and the other Europeans are pretty engrossed in the European issue at the moment - you know - the Euro Super State vs the Euro Common trade market/just good friends kinda debate.
I guess we have a fond affection for Canada, as we do for NZ and Australia, but don't really think too much about what goes on over there. The Iraq thingy certainly divided the country - some thought "way to go" Canada for their stance, others thought "how can you not be part of the Alliance?"
You have to remember that as the French were so tres anti coalition, and as most Brits really don't like the French (an historical deal), anyone seen to agree with a French position on anything will, invariably, lead to one thinking negatively about those persons.
But, that aside, we love the Canadians and Canadians are actually really loved in the UK. There is a more divided opinion about the Americans, but I actually like them, even Bart and Constantine, who make me chuckle when I read their posts.
Come on guys - we are a lot "closer" than we make out.
Living in Canada has made me realise that there is quite a US vs Canada rivalry - but it's not unlike the Scottish vs English vs Wales vs Northern Ireland kinda rivalry that occurs in the UK. Yes, it can be severe at times, but, in times of crises we all kinda pull together and are willing to die for each other kinda thing.
"I'm not an American, I'm Canadian!", carries as much weight in the rest of the world as, "I'm from Wales, not England.", being declared in North America. Most foreigners do not differentiate between us, they lump us together. This may offend some, but it's the truth and the only place it seems to be an issue is in Canada. I've dealt with plenty of loud and obnoxious Canadians (while overseas and at home) and have met many polite and reserved Americans. If asked, I tell people that I am a Canadian but if they mistake me for an American I don't have melt down(unless it's Abdul and Akbar out shopping for a victim).
Why is a 22 year old "teenager" born in Canada, and grew up in the US trying to give us the Euro vision of Canada??? I was in Germany when you were 1 yr old, I've also been to Austria, Italy, Belgium, France, Holland, Switzerland, England, Scotland, Iceland, Cyprus and Hungary..... and you've been where, oh yea Italy and Germany..... Hmmmm. Well, as a Canadain over there, I was treated very well, and no one thought I was just a Yank, that wore long johns in the summer. Most knew quit a bit about Canada, and a lot more than most Americans do... You included.... Have a nice day, and beleive it or not, I think most Yanks are good people, well, the ones that were born there anyway...
Sorry for the snit fit, just feeling a little pissy tonight... It's a Canadian thing you know..... Eh! Hoser
Oh yea.... I've been to The Republic of San Marino as well....
Why should we care what europeans think of us anyways. I haven't read all the post in this thread, just the first one and a few others, and it's almost as if the original poster thinks we should be hurt by this and should try to change our ways.
I don't care what some german or italian thinks of this country. I care what an Albertan or Nova Scotian thinks of this country
