A European view of Canada vs. the USA

Speak for yourself....
How can you expect anyone to relate to you when you think they all suck just because they are American? I find that I relate with people just fine, such as when Sept. 11th happened, although lately I find I can "relate" with that one professors piece about Sept. 11th. I really don't get what you mean by relate. How do people relate with one another in Canada, or European. Unless you mean everyone in a country think exactly alike, but I don't see where that happens anywhere, unless maybe in North Korea, but there's even people who leave that country because they don't relate. Sure, there's arrogant people in our country, but I find it quite arrogant to say we all suck and seemingly place yourself above us. Oh, and I voted for John Kerry(next time it's going to be Nader if he runs, I figure why bother voting when it's probably all rigged

Hi Guys!
Here's my opinion about Canada as a German guy!
I think that Canada is one of the best countries in the world!
Over there you have a wonderful landscape and people,
Canada is a bilingual country (french in Québec and english in the other provinces and territories). Canada is a member of the "Commonwealth of Nations", so you were a british colony and have more and deeplier relations to europe than the people in the USA. You are quite polite, nice and you love peace more than the government of the States...
That's what most europeans think about Canada
One reason that europeans are not that much interested in Canada is, that you don't want to play the "World Police" like the United States do!
But you are friendlier than the USA, more like the "modern" european countries,so you have more in common with europe.
Or something like that...
In Germany most of the people think that you are the "better Americans", one reason is written above.
I am personally interested in Canada because I want to move there, at least when I'm 40, because in Germany...
How can I say that, ...the Nazi-community begins to grow (you can see it on the election in Saxonia and Brandenburg where the NPD [National Partei Deutschland] and the DVU [Deutsche Volksunion], the poor get poorer and the rich get richer.
So here is some kind of political polarization, like in the early 1930's when Hitler became "Reichskanzler" in the "Weimarer Republik", the people elect the right wing (NPD and DVU) and the left wing (PDS [Partei des demokratischen Sozialismus]), when the German people won't do anything against this polarization the Federal Republic of Germany will end like the "Weimarer Republik" and I'm afraid of it!
Oh my god that has nothing to do with the topic, I'm sorry dudes!!!
But agree with MIXX and the other German guy!!!
Canada is a great country!
And I wouldn't say that America (I mean the US of A *lol*) really suckz but, you know, they have made two mistakes since the past five years (georgie porgie) and every one in europe make jokes about their elections and about George W. (Georgie) and Condolezza Rice (Condy Rice), the only real tough man, who was respected in europe was Colin Powell.
But don't worry Americans, better times will come, someday...
And yes, in every country are, as we say in Germany "Schwarze Schafe" (EN: black sheeps), no one and of course no country is perfect!
I'm sorry for my bad english spelling and grammatic, but I#m just a sixteen years old student, who visits the 11th grade of a grammar school in Thuringia...
Who finds mistakes can keep them *lol*
Alot of Americans are very polite and hate Bush. You know, in all honesty, and no offense to you, I'm starting to wonder how many Europeans have actually been to the US? While I will agree that Canada's politics are probably closer to Europes, there are alot of Americans who could be considered liberal and more "modern" minded. Just like you were talking about the Nazi movement in your country growing, it seems over the past 40 years the conservative movement, through propaganda and such, has really come into being. These are the same people who believe the earth is 10,000 years old, and that dinosaurs were just animals that were left behind by noahs ark. People are people no matter were you go, and you have a right to live where ever you want, but just to clear things up, the US has just as much polite and cool geography as Canada, it's just our huge population has breeded tons of morons of the right-wing conservative movement who are assholes. I bet if you visited New York or California, you would see a different side of the United States as opposed to the southern states, although I bet in the southern states people would be more polite to your face, while in New York they would be rather rude.
Here's just one thing I would like to know about this world. No one seems to judge any of the people from any other countries, such as the UK, for what their government is doing in Iraq, but whenever an American comes along, he seems to always be judged, right away, without even knowing if he agreed with the war or not, as a war monger and as someone who is conservative or whatever. Why does the world think we are all the same? Didn't anyone see the Bush inauguration parade in which tons of us stood up to protest against him? Just like the UK and those other countries that are in Iraq, alot of us Americans had no control over what our government was doing, and alot of people protested, yet we are hated for the war, and the British and others are excused because people blame their government. I just wish people would be a little more reasonable to the fact that alot of us Americans don't agree with our governmetns policies, want peace, are polite, and just want what any European or Canadian wants.
Hey Johnny relax man ppl are the same everywhere you go dude, that is the common bond we are "human" nobody is perfect and most people jump a train before they see where it is going.
When I was in the forces up here as a young man I was proud to wear my uniform and represent my country in the world. I trained really hard 7 mile run every day and 14 every second Friday ob courses were like candy.
For all of that hard work I got more respect for my abilities in the US and other countries then my own. People up here in the late 70's early 80's got on the no military train from Nam and assumed that anyone in the miltary was a baby killer or a warmonger. The part I often thought was funny is that if you were that way they could have been dead before they finished that statement.
You are right to say that the mind should grow and judgements and reason change along with that. Some people just have a one way ticket and never get of the train.

that is basically all I was trying to say, is that people are people, and that all these judgements and hatred towards Americans, Canadians, or whatever is stupid. I can understand hatred of Bush, considering he is well known for certain things around the world, in which people have a chance to agree with or not, but this whole thing about Americans not being polite, and Americans being this and that is completely ridiculous if you ask me. Americans are not a certain kind of soda, and I don't think we can be bunched as being any certain way, or our country being this or that. Of course, anyone is entitled to look at things how they want, but I just think that anyone that wants to consider themselves reasonable would know that people are people. You will probably meeet assholes in Canada or the US, I mean they are everywhere. I mean, American is just an imaginary label in which people place on other people who are born in a certain country. We all have different lives and different things have happened to us to make us different people. I mean, in the normal world, if I came upon someone, and they treated me respectfully, I would be just as polite back, and I know others who are the same, while I've met others who are different. This whole European view of Canada Vs. the United States has opened my eye to the fact that some Europeans have distorted views of Americans just as much as alot of Americans might have distorted points of view of Canadians. Of course, my point of view could be looked at as distorted, but I'll tell you this, if you are polite to me, I will be polite to you, but if you assume I am something I'm not and treat me so, then I will probably treat you the same way back(although normally I would probably still be somewhat polite, or at least try).
Just like you said, no one is perfect, and I know I'm not, and either are Europeans, but it would be nice if Americans, Canadians, and Europeans could realise that alot of us are just here for the ride, and not actually in control of where it goes(example being government policies).
Hey Jonny!
I haven't said that all Americans are rude an unkind and all bad!!!
It's the same in evry country, there are good and bad people ind one country there are more good in another there are less good people!!!
And of course there were protests against the politicies of Tony Blair in Europe, not just George W. ...
The reason why most europeans were against the war was, that we here know what war is, we learn it in school and there is no day in Germany where there is no documentation about WW1 or WW2, especially now because of the Dresden bombing 60 years ago...
I myself was in Auschwitz for 2 weeks to see what the Nazi's did with Jews and other minorities... I can't describe my feelings you have to go there yourself, and if you have the chance to visit Auschwitz then go there!!!
All neo-nazi's in Germany should go there to see how cruel and brutal Hitler and the SS was!!!
but that has (almost) nothing to do with the topic, I'm sorry!!!
And something to military in Germany...
Our green party (Bündnis90/Die Grünen) are working for their aim that the Bundeswehr (the German army) gets smaller, better and a volountary army, right now evry man has to go there for 9 months when he is 18 and finished school, or you can do a civil-job (I'm sorry if that's the wrong translation
And yeah, in Germany our government has got also a lot of Problems..., e.g over 5 million unemployed people (with a population of 82 million)
so far from me...
c y'all yours alex *lol*

Yeah, I suppose if even 30% of our population was for war and what could be considered "bad" or against your beliefs and mine, it would still be millions of people. I mean, you have to factor in the fact that alot of people don't vote, don't do polls, and just plain don't care. I'ver read some stories of Europeans who came as exchange students to the US and were surprised how nice people were. I mean, just like how we get news on Europeans being anti-american in the US, I could guess that even if the news in Europe is not really that biased, you all would still get a different point of view of the US and people if you aren't living here. Same thing could happen for any country. There's alot of Americans who are against war(of course, alot were suckered into things and are just following whatever)but alot of us realize it's a terrible thing. About being the "world police" quite frankly, I'm sick of it

.....I think we should take our military and put more on the border with mexico, because I have no problem with helping out poor people, but often times criminals will come over from mexico and it's always good to have legal immigrants. Of course, Bush's new plan CUTS his promised border agents from 2000 a year, to 210! Oh, and your english seems quite good to me.
Oh, we even have those white-power nazi stupid ass people in the US. We got the KKK, skinheads, and all that bullshit. Of course, I dunno if it's as prominent as it might be in Germany, but we have to deal with those bigot people here.
As much as there have been protest against tony blair, what I mainly meant was how I feel there's a double standard. Like you know how anti-americanism has grown over the years, and couldn't you say that because of US policies, Americans would be judged worse in certain places in Europe as opposed to British? I'm just guessing on this though and asking for your input because I dunno, but from the news we see here, and how people seem to always act towards Americans, I'm making a guess that there are different standards towards Americans as opposed to British. Of course, you know Europe a hell of alot better than me
At first Johnny, thank you for that compliment!
I hope you are honest, but why not?
And yeah, the anti-americanism has grown a lot since George W. is the president of the United States, but that's just my opinion...
As I said before, the reason is that europeans (and others) do not like Georges way of politic...
Just remember the time when Bill Clinton was president...
And yes I know Europe better than you, especially Germany, but you probably know America better than I... *lol*
Yeah, it's good though that you know alot about Europe and I know some about the US. Maybe we can learn from each other or something. Alot of Americans are sick of George Bush's politics. Of course, as much as I do know something about the US, there's still tons to be explored even in the US, given it's size and amount of people, you know. Oh, and I saw a special the other day on the rising neo-nazi movement in Germany. Hopefully those people don't come back to power.

sure i can speak for myself, but in an uncultivated place like america where minorities are less associated with...of course we're the least related country. where there are ppl still burning each other for being different. that can happen anywhere, but this country is the least accepting of all different cultures, or even accepting of similar cultures...theres still uncivilized ppl that do anything to be accepted- thats why theirs hazing...and ppl die to fit in...and i have experienced it. where ppl hate this person or this person and they havent met each other yet...americans are by far the most judgemental ive seen yet, sure they can be these immature ppl...and barely ever mature...it happens everywhere, but i can say what i feel is going on...i may be wrong, but from experiences in living in several different countries, you cant say it never happened...
Well obviously you didn't gain much from those countries, or you don't know any real people. Hazing? Burning people for being different? Wow, that never happened to me or to anyone I know. I mainly think you are full of bullshit. Even if you did live in other countries, you obviously didn't know very many people, judging from the judgements you are making on all Americans. It's all who you know. Different countries have different problems and things which happen within them. Just because there are violent things which happen in the US, doesn't make the US such a terrible place. I myself have had experiences in my life which haven't been positive, but that doesn't make me go around saying "fuck the United States, all Americans are judgemental and fake," it's just life, get over it. I've known Canadians who are great people, and I've had another Canadian tell me he wanted to beat my ass(guy lived accross the street from me), so your whole "Americans bad, Canadians good" thing is highly unreasonable, and almost ignorant to humanity. You aren't speaking for yourself either, you are passing judgement upon people you don't even know and representing them as though you know them. Even someone who lives in Canada, China, France, where ever, can't speak for all french people. I find your outlook to be rather immature, and just because you say what you feel doesn't mean it's right. If anything, you are being the epitome of everything you are screaming that you hate about Americans. I don't die to fit in, and most people, when they get older, get over the whole high school having, dying to fit in thing, and the world becomes more cut throat, dying to get ahead and be better, or just saying fuck it and living in the system.
How is someone uncivilized because they do anything to fit in? Also, the United States is NOT the least accepting of all different cultures. That is just a plain moronic statement! Sorry, but go over to India, or Saudi Arabia, and get slapped for even having your opinion, and have everyone tell you to cover your face because you are a women, and have others tell you that you are inferior to men, and then tell me the US is the least accepting of all cultures. Go to New Yorks gay side, or China Town and tell me the US doesn't accept other cultures or people who are different. Yes, I will admit, there are some screwed up people in the US, but Canada has rates of crime about the same as the US's as far as crimes other than murde go, and you will probably find plenty of un-accepting morons in Canada as the US. People are able to think what they want about you, and if you hate the US because some people "burned" you for being different, then grow up, because that can happen anywhere you go. Just because some idiot doesn't accept people for being different, doesn't mean that is how EVERY American is. I'm so sick of people making these ignorant generalizations about 300 million people. That's all you are doing is making a huge generalization about 300 million people. The US has gangsters, pimps, white trash, KKK, muslims, Gays, blacks, whites, mexicans, asians, and the list could go on, not to mention the US also has a huge difference of people from college educated professionals, to white trash pickup drivers. To make some huge point about some idiots who don't accept people, and then say that you hate Americans because of these types of things, is just plain dumb. I don't mean to be so harsh, but come on, get a brain, use some reason! Hate politics, but don't be ignorant and judge 300 million people that you don't even know and make huge statements about everyone. Damn Norad, he got on me about my age, and I mean, I don't want to get on anyone about there age, but the world does change once you are out of high school and have to deal with adults all the time. And if you do deal with adults all the time, then I am wondering how you have this messed up perception of the US? What you feel is going on is completely off.
Ahhmmm...
A little question for you guys: did somebody know the London in Ontario?
It is 167km distanced from Toronto, or between Toronto and Detroit...
Johnnybgoooodbaaaaa or whatever the hell your name is. You are the most paranoid loser I have ever seen. "oh that's right everybody hates the US" oh I forgot Americans are all fat" give it up pal, I have many friends who are American, Brits Yugoslav, Bulgarian, Aussi, Kiwi ect ect, everybody is proud of their own nationality for a variety of reasons, I have never heard anybody whine and moan about what another thinks of THEMSELVES. US media shove the American way of life down our throats 24 HOURS A FUCKING DAY. Get out more ass-clown, you will see this, I do not blame faults of the US government on my American friends, just like I do not blame the Nazis on common German people, GET OVER IT, nobody cares about a pissy little computer tough guy like you, you give your good country men a bad name, but fortunately I realize you do not represent Americans.

Oh please, look who's trying to be a tough guy. You are sitting here talking shit to me over a computer, and I'm the nerd. I don't know you, have never even talked to you, and for you to come and pick and fight and throw names at someone you don't even know shows some serious insecurities on your part. You are a hypocrite, and me and Exoticass got over our whole argument and this whole thread a long ass time ago(me and her PMed each other). If I'm a computer nerd, and I enjoy myself typing here, and have my point of view, what the fuck business is it of yours? What makes you so much better, considering you are calling someone on the net "ass-clown" and other names, and pushing YOUR point of view of the world on me? How do you know that I don't get out? It only takes so long to make a post on here, I have a job, I am out, and you and your assumptions and name-calling doesn't make you look any better than me. Stop trying to feel big and better than others and respect different points of views. I was going off of my own experience in the states and from Canadians I have met in my post, I was not just bullshiting through. Some people have certain experiences which give them a certain point of views, others are different. At least I don't resort to calling people I don't know such immature names as "ass-clown" "paranoid loser." You are whining and moaning about MY post, and can't even restrain yourself to talk to my like an adult. I always respond to what people say, and you are a newbie, don't even know what other post I have made or what people I have talked to, and hear you come acting like you know. I think YOU are the one who needs to get a life. I have friends who are mexican, canadians, japanese, whatever. I can't prove those claims, but neither can you.
"nobody cares about a pissy little computer tough guy like you"
It's funny, aren't you being a pissy little computer tough guy? Biggest problem I have, and something I enjoy doing, is talking people out of generalizations they have, even if it's just on a net forum. You might think that is stupid and a waste of time, but you aren't me.
One other thing: I don't remeber saying "oh everybody hates us" I was just talking to the exoticass person because she was making generalizations that all Americans are this and that, and I disagreed, a convo started, we finished it in PMs, and it was a done deal as of a while ago. Now you come up in here calling me "ass clown" "pissy little computer tough guy" "paranoid loser" and act like I should care about what YOU say. If you look at my post, I'm a post whore, I always respond to people, just like in emails and so on, so don't feel special that you got notice. I know that everyone from other countries don't have us, and that they know that we aren't all fat, I just talk to the people that do. I know there's reasonable people everywhere, but for some reason you think I think that all people hate us and I have to defend against everyone. Nope, I have had decent little debates on here with people, and agreed with them, and to respond to one thread I posted in and call me all these names and make assumptions as to what you think I do, is illogical.
talking people out of generalizations
Too bad you never win
hwacker hwacker:
talking people out of generalizations Too bad you never win

Some people do turn around, like the exoticass person. She admitted she probably shouldn't have made generalizations about Americans, and I told her in the PMs that I probably shouldn't have been rude, and we squashed it. Now, you on the other hand will never go with anything I say, but we have completely different points of views

Oh well, can't win with everyone. Thing about it is, you just think you ALWAYS win
