I'd like to know that all the Cops, EMT's, Firefighters, Every single person who operates macheinery or drives a car daily is an alcoholic as well, doesn't mean it's gonna happen and doesn't mean I have any right to judge their ability on the job either.
Whats next, you demand that all party leaders be agnostic for fear of them making bad decisions?
My wife is a catholic, she believes the crap she's fed by the church, I don't, but it didn't prevent me from marrying her, doesn't prevent her from making informed educated decisions in her day to day life either, My advise is again leave the poillitical ranting for the pollitical forums (if Harpers beliefs even qualify as an issue which to 99% of the voting public they don't)

I'm just a little surprised at this, but is seem true. It may have something to do with apathy, it may have something to do with ignorance, it may have something to do with endemic religious convictions.
I think some of us are afraid to ask simple questions.

I'm just a little surprised at this, but is seem true. It may have something to do with apathy, it may have something to do with ignorance, it may have something to do with endemic religious convictions.

It may have something to do with living in a country where everyone is free and entitled to believe what they want no matter how rediculous it seems to someone eles, and these people can do so without discrimination in their profession(s) or in their day to day lives.
If someone's religious beliefs are enough of a platform for you to determine your vote then more power to you, I for one would rather have massive voter apathy than the whole country deciding based on the candidates religious beliefs.

The Pastor in this story makes a good point in a video I watched. Fanatical Christians believe that you can only get to Heaven thru Jaysus (As the story says, they believe Ghandi is in hell.) The pastor says that if Jesus is the only one that can save you from everlasting torment in hell, then in effect he's saving people from his Father who has condemned them there. Powerful stuff.

It's refreshing to see a religious leader who doesn't subscribe to the usual frothing-at-the-mouth attitudes that so many of the religious right cling too. At essence he is dealing with the question of the 'problem of evil'.

Nice to finally have somebody that wants to discuss the topic. I think this guy is a breath of fresh air because he comes from the evangelical community. They've really painted themselves into a corner with this you can only go to heaven with Jesus crap. What about all the people who live never having heard of Jesus. God condemns them too? I doubt if Jesus himself (such as he was) ever saw himself as the only way to God - that was pushed by his followers trying to differentiate themselves from the other Jews.

We're supposed to live in a society where church and state are separate. And, to steal from Trudeau, the government has no business in the prayer-rooms of Canadians. I don't give a shit what any politicians' religious beliefs are. Their job is to represent OUR beliefs, not theirs. Likewise, I don't a give a shit whether the guy flying the plane I'm on believes in god, which god or how many gods, so long as he's able to get the plane off the ground and back on it again safely.
The government does not ordinarily have any business in dealing with religion, the only time it intervenes is when religion imposes it's fanciful beliefs or tries to impose those beliefs on other Canadians.
The problem is that of course people who for what ever reason 'believe' aren't terribly rational and if they think they have some invisible space-daddy mummering in their ear to go do something they usually do.

I'm sure that if he ever made a decision based souly on his religious beliefs he would no longer be the acting head of his party, I'm also sure that he has received an education acceptable to the standards in our country and due to this education is able to differentiate between his faith and credable science. I'm also sure to date it hasen't mattered a lick what he believes, as we are all still free to hold to our own beliefs so..... Match point, this conversation is not only redundant and unfounded it is also not worth further debate.

Where do you draw the line? His job is to represent Canadians' beliefs, not his own. The pilot doesn't choose the destination, the passengers do.
