(if Harpers beliefs even qualify as an issue which to 99% of the voting public they don't)

I'm just a little surprised at this, but is seem true. It may have something to do with apathy, it may have something to do with ignorance, it may have something to do with endemic religious convictions.

I think some of us are afraid to ask simple questions.

No, I think that many of us don't equate having a leader with a religious faith as directly translating to a Taliban rule in Canada. I assume, from what I've read here, that Stephen Harper is Christian. As were just about all Prime Ministers before him. He's been in power for several years now--there's been no reignitinig of the abortion debate, no move to eliminate the teaching of the Theory of Evolution from schools, or anything close for that matter.

A lot of people in Canada are members of one religious faith or another. It's ludicrous to suggest that they are somehow incapable of higher office in Canada. Even a lot of non-religious people still believe some pretty weird things. My dad's not religious, but he's a total 9/11 foiler.

So yes, as you imply, your simple question is a little too simple.

edited for numerous spelling mistakes!

If Harper was an alcoholic, I'd want to know.

We should be so fortunate as to have another leader like Macdonald.

Taseko Taseko:
If Harper's personal beliefs could affect his decisions I'd want to know. If Harper believes the something fervently ridiculous I want to know. He isn't flying a friggin' airplane he's allegedly trying to run a country....I want to know where the bugger wants to fly us. ( Metaphorically speaking!)

Where do you draw the line? His job is to represent Canadians' beliefs, not his own. The pilot doesn't choose the destination, the passengers do.

Macdonald was in office in the late 1800s. This was a while ago. It is 2011 now. A lot changes in over 100 years! Even you have a computer, for instance!

Harper is to reflect the view of Canadians, that is the idea. What if he only recognizes a higher calling and the airplane lands in Washington?

Lemmy @ Tue Apr 19, 2011 8:46 pm

Not sure what the "even you have a computer" bit was intended to imply.

I had a witty retort (well, so I thought), but I'm sensing you're a "gotta have the last word" kinda bloke, so I'll let it go at that.

The pilot doesn't choose the destination, the passengers do.

Actually the pilot has the destination chosen or assigned and the way to get there set out. All the passengers do is decide if they want to go there with him. They can choose another destination and means of getting there if they disagree with the initial pilot.
