Pretty shocking video of the state of American policing. Pretty much the way this works is police can murder you and get away with it so long as they shout at you to drop a weapon you don't have. And even if no weapon is found after the shooting you can rest assured that the cops who do the shooting stand a better than 98% chance of being exonerated by their superiors.

I've said this before and I'll say it again that my standard of what's 'justifiable' for a cop to do is to ask if that same action would be ruled justifiable if a citizen did it. Because, you see, cops are supposed to be citizens.

Watch the video and prepare to be outraged.

   

Bart check the Las Vegas Metro PD. They run on a three step, warning, then either bean bag or Taz and in all else use firearm to 1 shot to wound down, final if suspect is still frisky kill. Same applies to Citizens who choose self defense. Although if knife or gun is present lethal force authorized self defense both Police and Citizen.

   

Do they have a policy of backing up to trade space for time to allow more time for communication?

In a situation where the suspect is not a likely threat to another, space for time should be the standard.

They are not in the military taking an objective from an enemy, in which they must hold their ground. They are not a citizen going about lawful activity when confronted with a criminal that's breaking the law.

They are a policing force, and saving lives should be the highest priority.

The number of police shooting videos that fall within the category of not an active threat to anyone, and the police standing their ground that I have watched is far too high.

   

Well said. Anymore, though, it seems that too many LE agencies are bent on imposing their will on people, not serving or protecting them. And anyone who doesn't immediately yield to them, right or wrong, becomes the enemy and must be dealt with severely.

A mentally ill man in Texas was shot eighty times by six police officers. Given that their pistols likely have 10-round magazines then that means two of them reloaded and emptied their pistols at the man a second time.

They obliterated the man's face and the man's family chose not to have an open casket funeral. The man will be cremated instead.

There's a You Tube video of this shooting and at 1:25 into the video the cops do a fist bump as if they'd just taken down a deer.

They must be proud of themselves.

   

That's just sick.

Man, that was so disturbing it gave me second thoughts of simply travelling to the US, let alone ever consider moving there.

   

My point in posting these things is to raise your awareness so it doesn't happen in Canada.

   

I live in a quiet peaceful and prosperous little corner of Canada. Some years, our county boasts the lowest crime rate on the whole continent. Even here we had a suicide-by-cop a couple of years ago. It was a blatant one. This guy was bonkers and there as no other attempt to take him out of action than to pump 13 rounds into him. I'm not a fan of Tasering but that would have been the answer with this guy ... although he had just murdered his wife and perhaps justice was done, after all. He was clearly asking for it.

This travesty shouldn't be laid at the feet of the Police alone. Various levels of Gov`t are just as culpable for the deaths of these people as the Police Officers who pulled the trigger.

Maybe Gov`ts should be looking at not only fixing the Police Officers, maybe it`s time to fix the recruiting standards and police policies. I don`t know how it is in the States but here in Canada in the quest to be all inclusive they`ve hired people who are clearly not Police Calibre either physically or mentally and then, they`ve handcuffed them by implementing stupid regulations about not getting into a physical altercations with suspects because if you do and get hurt, you`re on your own with no coverage or to get it takes years.

So, given these political correct sentiments, why should we be surprised when alot of Police Officers take the easy way out, become bullies and in some cases actually murder people. What else would you expect from people who shouldn`t be wearing a police uniform in the first place and aren`t fit or capable enough to actually apprehend a suspect without the aid of lethal and non lethal hands off technology?

Then, when you combine this attitude with the "us against them" mentality that's being fostered by the media, local activist groups and police unions should we expect anything less?

In all honesty you couldn't pay me enough to be a police officer anymore and given that I'm relatively sane it might be an indication of why they're getting the societal rejects rather than the crème of the crop.

   

Justify? How can that possibly be justified? The man was give one second to produce a second empty hand?

Holy shit that's outrageous.
