Yes Reuz my pops said the area he is at isn't bad Cypress Hills or something.
Another bad example of bad legislation regarding the value of land . Very Sad oh well I guess it does Fort Mac a favor and boosts their economy because Fort Mac isn't going to go away for a very long time , if ever . Ziggy is right in saying the prices are going to go nowhwere but up , but yes some are going to be holding onto mortgages they can't afford . Living there is far too expensive to even consider for me and the stories I have heard don't balance to well with the potential earnings even if one wants to make a buck and go buy a house for $4000.00 like 1971 does. I've been there concerning the issue of realestate insanity and my whole family got pushed out regardless of union wages or not one sibling was even one of those realestate investors successful to a point and made enough to buy a small resort but the limitations spoke the loudest in the end .So I know what Donny feels like and so do other members of my family but at least I took what I could without whining about land claims and pulled off a 1971 dream ...by skin of my teeth that is . I'm no investor genius and maybe even a bit of an idiot when it comes to investing but know when bad legislation blows it horn or speaks loud and clear .
Richard, do you mean the Okanagan?
Housing is dirt cheap in Saskatchewan....but...then that pretty much described Saskatchewan. Cheap! Not much in the way of work there I don't think
Saskatchewan is great! Lots of people in the NorthWest part of the Province live here and work in Ft. Mc. Ten days in, five days out, you get Alberta pay and live at Saskatchewan Prices. Good deal if there ever was one.
When we relocated back to Canada in 2002 from the Caribbean we went to Calgary. Couldn't find work - slow period, but we could have bought a house for $300k in the newer neighborhoods like Rocky Ridge.
Those houses now $700k. With us looking to relocate back to Canada somewhere in 2-3 years, it is very troubling. Used to be that you decided where you wanted to live, then got a job there. Now you have to consider where you can afford to buy a home, then from that list decide where you want to live from that short list, and THEN try to get a job there.

Did you get some Ralphbucks also?
Me, no. I am retired, and worked my whole career here in Sask. Ralph is the most aptly named person in Canada
Even condemned grow-opp houses in Calgary are being bought for $400,000.
We made a few bucks flipping condos before the housing market got stupid here. I’m just thankful we bought our house when we did; otherwise we’d be stuck in a condo forever. Prices in this neighbourhood have doubled in the last three years.
Real estate in Alberta is just unreal right now. Not just calgary but every town within 3 hours of Calgary. Airdrie, Medicine Hat, Brooks, Canmore, Cochrane.

A friend of mine and his girl friend left Halifax about six years ago. They both owned full sized split level homes here in nice neighbourhood. They sold them at a fair price and moved to Fort Mac. Once they got there they could JUST afford a used mobile home. Even if they wanted to add to the 250,000 they had with a mortgage for a better place, there was nothing for them to buy anyway. Today they have a nice place to hang their hats but they said they felt like it was the USSR back in the bad old days when you put yer name on a list in hopes of getting a decent home/car etc.
