Canada-U.S.-war...possibility?
They would not have to even really use the military to kick our asses. 85% of our trade is with them. They could do it economically with the stroke of a pen. Just ask those Alberta ranchers mentioned above, or the autoworkers in Ontario. Or the lumber industry folks in BC.I live in a border town and believe me when the US burps, farts or rolls over we feel it big time.
except the Mexicans and a Chinese person named Huhu from another thread.

first of all, since world war 2 no democracy has ever attacked another democracy, so the likelyhood of the u.s. invading us is small
should the u.s. run out of water and want our resources, they might invade us, but hopefully all of the beavers will realize what the americans are trying to do and start biting their legs to run them out of canada
more likely is that the u.s. tries to attack some commies and accidentally hits us
but if our government had any foresight, they would have subsidized construction companies so they can win contracts to build important american buildings, but CSIS should have strategically planted bombs in those buildings so if they ever attack us, we can say stop or we'll level your country
Hmm, I sense some anti-americanism in that....
What you are saying is Americans are so stupid they would accidently attack the wrong country(anti-americanism is so cliche and you are so lame to resort to that sort of put downs). Facts remain that the US has around 75 million people they can use for the military, which is more than Canada's population, so even if your winters were kicking our ass, I can't see 73,597,731 soldiers with advanced weapons losing to 8,391,120 underfunded soldiers. Canada only puts $7.861 billion into their military while the US puts in $276.7 billion. Even if you were just joking, I don't find it funny, because I'm really tired of all this anti-americanism some of you people do. I came to this site to talk about how much I like Canada and converse with fellow Canadians, and instead I found people that despise my home country and cut down my fellow country men right and left.
The US does not have 73 million soldiers. If it did, then it would be one gigantic army! It has 73 million people who are military age, but it doesn't have 73 million soldiers. The largest army on earth is the Chinese army, and that only has 1 million soldiers.
the US has a 1 1/2 million man army with 100s of thousands in each reserve china has a 2 1/2 million man army if we went to war with china we are expected to lose about 20,000 troops if they try to beat us at our own game which is air and naval wars and naval wars in the 21st century are pretty much air wars plus china does not have true over sea capabilities the US has a military that is designed to travel and win wars far from home only britan and france are the only other two that can kinda brag about their oversea wars yet they dont come anywhere near the United States you know people should really start thinking about what a super power nation really is a nation that can kick ass and then keep on kicking with a very wide ranged war machine oh and the united states spends close to a trillon $ a year on it military if you take the top 20 military spenders and add them all up america is still spending more on military hardware and training. Just face it the US military is extremley well polished and you know what the best part is it is canadas ally so what can i say no worries canada if anythinbg we should become better allys that goes for europe too we cant have communists on the rise econmically and us just be sitting back arguing over how america could lose a war because in the end if america is invaded i believe there wont be a nation left on the earth if america dies we all die if not then what do you think.

Ok, all these U.S/Canada wars posts are just getting out of hand. How many relatives do you think live in Canada and the U.S? Trust me, not one family in Canada would risk war with the U.S, does that not coincide with the passive Canadian code? I hate it yes, I love this country to death but I have to respect reality even though it kills me, literaly.
Iv been here for under a month and Iv seen like ten of theese posts. America would never attack Canada.
I'd never fight in that war, that's for sure. What a waste of the best continent in the world if that ever happened.
This thread is juvenile and moronic.
You guys have watched Red Dawn too many times.
I'd love to see most of the soft little kids on this forum spend a winter out in the Canadian wilderness. Let alone do so with someone shooting at you.
Moronic.
The previous post echoes my thoughts of this thread. Albeit not to the exact words, but there will never be a war between us and even if there was, it would be over so fast we wouldnt know what hit us.
It is true that the relationship right now between the two countries is not what it used to be. That is still no reason for thinking or thoeorizing what would happen in a war between two countries who shatre the largest UNDEFENDED border in the world.

Exactly....Now on the other hand......How about Canada invades the States!

I wouldn't worry too much about that....even if we did, we would stop at Milwaukie....Hell, that would be our Main Objective!
I can't beleive that thread restarted... who is the Necroposter here???
TO answer the question... NO Canada and the US will not go to war against one another.
Plus there would only be two seasons... Winter and War, just like construction.

True.
Besides, and I am an American saying this, most Americans would never see Canada as a threat by any stretch of the imagination.
I could see us bombing the beejeezus out of an independent Quebec, though. An independent Quebec will inevitably be the Iran of the Western Hemisphere and will pursue nuclear weapons just to prove some idiotic point. And then the US will probably join hands with the remainder of Canada and stomp the hell out of the French.
Frankly, if anyone attacked Canada the US would stomp them like freaking bugs.
We may not always get along, but we love you guys.
One of the slights often levelled at Canada is that we have no fucntioning military worthy of mentioning, that we therefore default to the US to protect, and that we economically and politically benefit from that arrangement at the expense of the US.
It makes good press for Pat Robertson and Bill O'Reilly, but the reality is that the US wouldn't have it any other way. They don't want a military powerhouse on the their northern border. It would be just something else they'd have to worry about -- note Peter's reference to an independent Quebec acquiring nucclear weapons. They are quite happy with freindly, non-threatening Canada to their north.
So I don't feel any debt of gratitude for their US as our Protector -- it's a mutually beneficial arangement. Quite the contrary, I think that Canada should have a strong military, with the option of acquiring nuclear and other high tech armaments.
US protection or not, I don't like the idea of Canada rating near the bottom on th elist of countries able to defend themselves. Further, military R&D is an extremely rich breeding ground for high tech and profitable spin-offs -- the internet and GPS come to mind.
I think it's time Canada started to envision itself as a tough country with a little muscle behind us.

The USA would have no problem with
Canada being a nuclear power. It wouldn't surprise me to find that Canada already is.
Quebec would inevitably take her lead from France and be an adversary to the US in some way or another - perhaps even selling nuclear tech to Cuba or South America.
A strong Canada would make the sum strength of our nations stronger and countries like China would balk at attacking a formidable combined power.
No one in the US with a lick of sense would oppose a strong - even a definitively strong Canadian military. Canada's critics would be silenced by a Canada whose military policies stated that, if attacked, the Canadian Ambassador to the US would merely tell us who gets the can of whoop-ass as opposed to asking us to deliver it.
Can't wait to see Canada's carrier battle groups!
