I mean, it's very interresting to think about a war between the US and Canada. But the most interresting war could be between the US and Russia or between Russia and China or between the US and China.

I remember the 80's, when the US stationed their Pershing missiles and their Tomahawks in my country, because the Soviets stationed SS20 and SS22 missiles in the former German Democratic Republic. Do you? :?
This time was called Cold War. There is a book, written by the former British General Sir John Hackett >>World War Three<<. I read it and it's recommendable. Not only for Europeans!

Yeah, I've heard alot of Canadians say they don't get why the US hated the Soviet Union that much. I suppose alot of them think the Soviet Union was the good guy in the Cold War, and the US was the aggressor.

I hope the US invades Canada one day it would purpose into my life....they would be in a worse situation in canada than in Iraq....all us Canadian Hunters would sniper those fools through out the country!! and because the power of the internet every canadian would be able to make simple bombs out of house hold products...i hope that day comes

jacker_the_mooch @ Sat May 08, 2004 8:41 pm

And I would sit back and drink....

BlindMonk @ Tue May 11, 2004 8:45 pm

Officialy anyways our military would surrender.
Goverment on all levels would have no choice but to try to with hold there power by doing what american's would say.
War it self would accomplish nothing accept create a situation like Isreal and the Palastinians....its one thing to crush an army but how do you stop the people....not to mention every time the united states has invaded canadians stand up and kick ass.

If a war was going to start it would be no sooner than a hundred years from now. At which point, the U.S. would have some serious issues in natural resources. Most of which we have in abundance (wood, water, metals, to name a few). If our PM sniffed enough glue (which wouldn't surprise me) and started putting the sqeeze on those exports, the U.S. would have a very good strategic reason for invasion.

The United States ability to hold Canada would not be greatly affected by the size of our nation as they'd be uninterested in most of it. If we all holed up in Yellowknife, that would probably be fine with the President.

Here in Edmonton it was thirty below for a month last winter, and that WAS NOT considered extreme. But we all did complain a lot about it because it's not like any sane Canuck wants it to be that cold.

The American beaches at Normandy were Omaha and Utah, Canadians took Juno, and the Brits took Gold and Sword. Omaha was the most heavily defended beach. Juno was initially light, then the Nazi's got their act together with one heck of a counter attack.

It was China and North Korea that got together (the implication was all of Korea, sorry to be a stickler). And that was for China's own strategic reasons, namely that they didn't want the U.S. parking on their doorstep. You need not worry about the two nations getting together again as China can kick some serious ass all by itself. It has always had the worlds largest standing army and being a communist state, it's not hard for them to increase it's size further.

Johnny - Intentionally or otherwise, most of your comments have been inflamatory. What reaction do you expect people to have when you offer to make Canada a fifty-first state? So stop getting upset when people get a bit miffed. Throw in a smiley, it does wonders for lightening the tone.

However, I do agree that a unified North America would be a great thing. I wish it could happen in my lifetime (peacefully or not at all).

The western provinces would NEVER join the states willingly as someone had suggested. Most people out here are fiercly patriotic. When the 49th regiment started, it did so because people DEMANDED it and was at full compliment in four days, faster than any other regiment.

And in closing, Canada would win a war because we're prettier than them. :P

:D :D :D :D

Who wants to start World War Three? Could be funny for all.

The US could never attack Canada, because if it did then the Commonwealth would attack the US. The US would stand no chance in a war against the Commonwealth, not when it has huge countries like India in it.

Sad thing is that the US actually beat Canada is standard of living this year. What's happening to Canada that would make it go from 1st to 8th? I'm not trying to be mean with that, I just want to know why it dropped so much.

Well Johnnybdumbass, it's like this:
The UN uses a mathematical equation to rank countries. Part of this equation factors in how much a country spends on foriegn aid. All the money that the US is spending on the war is counted as money spent on foriegn aid (yea THAT makes sense). This is the number one contributing factor to the States getting a higher score then what they've had previously.

Hmm, that doesn't really answer why Canada has gone to number 8. The US has always been in the top ten, even up to number 3 or 4 or whatever sometimes. I wasn't asking why the US is ahead of Canada, but why Canada is to number 8 from 1. I don't see the top countries contributing lots of money like the US, yet they are number 1....

The US does not have 73 million soldiers. If it did, then it would be one gigantic army! It has 73 million people who are military age, but it doesn't have 73 million soldiers. The largest army on earth is the Chinese army, and that only has 1 million soldiers.

first of all, since world war 2 no democracy has ever attacked another democracy, so the likelyhood of the u.s. invading us is small

should the u.s. run out of water and want our resources, they might invade us, but hopefully all of the beavers will realize what the americans are trying to do and start biting their legs to run them out of canada

more likely is that the u.s. tries to attack some commies and accidentally hits us

but if our government had any foresight, they would have subsidized construction companies so they can win contracts to build important american buildings, but CSIS should have strategically planted bombs in those buildings so if they ever attack us, we can say stop or we'll level your country

Hmm, I sense some anti-americanism in that....

What you are saying is Americans are so stupid they would accidently attack the wrong country(anti-americanism is so cliche and you are so lame to resort to that sort of put downs). Facts remain that the US has around 75 million people they can use for the military, which is more than Canada's population, so even if your winters were kicking our ass, I can't see 73,597,731 soldiers with advanced weapons losing to 8,391,120 underfunded soldiers. Canada only puts $7.861 billion into their military while the US puts in $276.7 billion. Even if you were just joking, I don't find it funny, because I'm really tired of all this anti-americanism some of you people do. I came to this site to talk about how much I like Canada and converse with fellow Canadians, and instead I found people that despise my home country and cut down my fellow country men right and left.
