alienofwar alienofwar:
Sgt. Mills Ive lived in the U.S several times and I love it here. In fact, this has been the 3rd time ive moved to the U.S I think and I have been here almost a year and it's been the best experience I have had. I learned so much concerning the politics that goes on here. People from Montana to Nevada have been so nice to me and my wife after we were kicked out of Canada. You see my wife is American and she overstayed her visitors visa by about a month due to miscommunication and a misunderstanding. She was given only one week to get out of Canada. Her whole experience with Canadians has been terrible, including many other Americans Ive met, who have said that the border and immigration officials are extremely rude to them and always hassle them. Yet as a Canadian citizen I have had the best experiences with U.S border and immigration officials...they were extremely polite and understanding if I got into a sticky situation.

So my experience has been very good down here. In fact life has been alot easier, cost of living is cheap, jobs are plentiful and saving money has been much easier as opposed to when I lived in Canada. Here I have limitless opporunity, in Canada middle class is the best anyone can do. IN here if you work hard, you get rewarded but in Canada you work hard and you get taxed to death. What kind of reward is that? Reward the unsuccessful and punish the successful? Thats not right. On top of that I lived in Alberta where that province has the most economic freedom in Canada...yet I was still struggling. Now I live in Nevada, one of the states with the most economic freedom in the U.S and life couldn't be better. In fact I talked to another Canadian living in Nevada and she said she was able to save 7 times more than her Canadian friend who made the same wage as her...and she said the low taxes really helped her here, on top of that she has more buying power.

So really, what is wrong with Canada and why wont any of its citizens wake up??

I do miss alot of things though, like Tim Hortons and Canadian hockey as well as friends and family...just like most ex-patriats who live down here.

Please go preach your sermons elsewhere. If you got lucky down there then good, stay there, dont come back. Just because you found a good life down there doesnt mean squat compared to the whole country buddy. Whats wrong with Canada and why wont any of its citizens wake up? This coming from somebody whose government are warmongers? You need to wake up my friend and smell the reality.

"Yes, we are not a melting pot, we believe in giving everyone their own space instead of making sure they become exactly like us."

Samething in the U.S Michael, multi-culturalism exists here as well...in fact if you go to the larger cities in here you would think you were in Canada with all the minorites which flourish here and still express their heritage and culture. It's a beautiful thing. Only thing is the problem with segregation in this kind of system, groups secluding themselves because they can relate easier to their own peers rather than other groups of people. This is an issue which we really need to address...thats why its important to make either U.S culture or Canadian culture central to their lives as well...thats where the melting pot ideal comes into the picture and should play a better role. I don't think neither the U.S or Canada are addressing this issue properly. Thats just my opinion though.

alienofwar, I can empathize. I too left my homeland to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities in America. A lot of things are different here, so you have to get used to a different set of values. Having lived in both countries for an extended period of time, I will sum it up as follows:

Canadians value government-enforced equality above all else (unless you are a straight white male)
Americans value success above all else

Since I am of above average intelligence (a member of MENSA in fact) and I am a hard worker, the choice was clear: I could stay in Canada and remain mediocre, or I could move to America and make something of myself. Most intelligent Canadians make the same choice that I did, sooner or later. There is simply no reason to remain in a country that punishes you for being the best.

alienofwar @ Mon Mar 21, 2005 1:56 pm

LOL. The negative posts just keep on coming.

"This coming from somebody whose government are warmongers? You need to wake up my friend and smell the reality."

Okay....question, what does the war in Iraq have to do with what I just posted? Seriously, how is a foreign affair related to my experience in the U.S? I understand my current gov't in power is fighting to liberate the Iraqi citizens from militant terrorists and to rebuild that country...but I don't see how this addresses my experience in the U.S...if you could elaborate, that would helpful.

I think you need to wake up and smell the reality, if Im not mistakened....up to date there are hundreds of Canadians who are also fighting in Iraq for the U.S gov't so they can can gain a U.S citizenship. What does this tell you? They love this country so much that they are willing to die for it. Thats real patriotism and not the sham beer commericial patriotism that exists in Canada.

alienofwar @ Mon Mar 21, 2005 1:59 pm

You are SO right former_canuck. You really hit it on the nail.

How exactly did you meet every Canadian and ex-Canadian member of MENSA?

Do you fly to the states every time another ex-canuck is inducted?

Very few? Most legal immigrants in America are phenomenally more successful than they could have ever been in their home countries. Canada offers little in the way of opportunity for the more competent individuals.

(Case in point: where do all of the best Canadian doctors go? America, of course.)

alienofwar @ Mon Mar 21, 2005 3:31 pm

Michael judging from your posts I'll bet you that your hateful attitude towards the U.S is what brought upon all that negativity you have experienced down here. You sound like someone who has a hard time socializing with others. Anyways, thats just my opinion.

You said...

"WHAT??!?!?!? You don't know anything about america. Hundreds of..?!?!

That was very insulting.

Anyways, you seem to have misread or misunderstood what I said: "up to date there are hundreds of Canadians who are also fighting in Iraq for the U.S gov't so they can can gain a U.S citizenship"

And what I read in Maclean magazine (yes, a library in Billings, Montana had a subscription to a Canadian magazine):

"Canadians make up the largest contingent of foreign nationals enlisted in the American military. They fill diverse roles, from ordnance technicians to front-line soldiers to administrative staff. Some join for the adventure, others to fast-track their U.S. citizenship applications (foreign veterans are often granted U.S. citizenship after their tour of duty; in July 2002, George W. Bush signed an executive order to further facilitate the process)."

"Current numbers are hard to pin down, but it's estimated that thousands of Canadians are enlisted in the 2.65-million-strong American armed forces. Hundreds have served or are now serving in Iraq, and at least one has died: Cpl. Bernard Gooden, 22, who immigrated to Canada from Jamaica in 1997, was killed in action on April 4, 2003."

I may have been mistakened in saying that ALL of them are trying to get U.S citizenship, but as this article points out a a portion of them are doing exactly that.

Now Michael...I think I deserve an appology after you insulted my intelligence like that. That was actually very hurtful.

ManifestDestiny @ Mon Mar 21, 2005 3:55 pm

alienofwar I will look into that book thank you.

As for our MIT grad, yeah sure. it never seems top amaze me how ignorant he is. Poeple like him is one of the reasons i am here. I travel to Canada often my wife is Canadian so we go to visit family. There was always people wiuth a bad attiutde towards the States. But in the past few years its grown into a haterd that everytime I go up I am meeting people like Our MIT grad. These are the same people who dont even vote in their own elections. Then they wanna tell me what to do. michaelreeagle you are a very special person you saved canada from terrorism cause of your conecctions to the Taliban LMAO. They assured him its a no-no to attack Canada. But its ok to stone your Daughter if she gets raped they said.

Why did you have to pay $4.500 for your knee in Canada I thought its free?

Ruxpercnd @ Mon Mar 21, 2005 4:01 pm

... Resistance is Futile!

...... Excuse Michael while he takes another hit of Peyote so he can forget his deeply engrained American enculturation and assimilation... we are all American Borg! :)

ManifestDestiny @ Mon Mar 21, 2005 4:14 pm

Someone asked me what canada would do if 9/11 happen in canada. Well, first off, it never would.

This is not a BS Canadian dream answer.

Like I said, the world is complicated. First I said, "I know it won't because I happen to know some Taliban in Vancouver and they said that Canada was a no-no in the terrorist world." He did like that, tee hee.

I love this qoute I am dying of laughter. Canada is safe. You are a spinless coward mike. Remember what happened to France and England fopr their appeasment of Hitler.

michaelredeagle @ Mon Mar 21, 2005 4:58 pm

I didn't say I met them all, I said that it's posted at MENSA. A-duhh.
You don't have to fly to america to be kept informed.

$1:

Cases in point require references... even vague ones.

Ahh your ignorance is bliss...
Learn about our heath care then I'll tell you why (better yet, it was because it was listed as continuative surgery from the states. If I had just flown up at first, no charge, but I needed to be near school then.)

alienofwar, I've read your posts all over the site, coming from someone who post proamerican and zips through insults left and right for you to say your insulted makes me think that you are trying to pull one on the moderators.
Don't make me laugh.
I've seen the article, I know that there are many dual-citizens. And the 1972 treaty is one of the only reasons why Canadians can help americans whenever they run out of cannon fodder. But I'll leave that article for all of the follow-ups that I am already finding all over the net. The research that was done into those who were mentioned and what was supposedly said is the same blah that was just said here, a few wanting to become americans solders does not compare to :
http://www.canadianalternative.com/
http://www.jameslove.com/move_to_canada.htm
Canada has had more americans wanting to come live in Canada in the last 2 years than we have had in the last 10! And thats from Immigration Canada.

Just for fun.
wow, the us has a few we have a few, you argument is still moot, Canadians are no more flocking to america then vice versa. The fact that our #1 country of new citizens is america by the thousands EVERY year, not just for those who want to blow up shit, is truely amazing.
So, what if bush says "go a fighting an yull be mericans." That is even worse. - Killing in the name of.... Rage Against The Machine. Download it.
I still stand by my reasoning, they still have to take the test and still have to swear the oath and all that. It's still a few Canadians becoming americans and then joining the forces. I have dual citizenship and could do it too. Thats not Canada sending in the troops. Thats just more ex-canadians goofin around.

Ruxpercnd, do you actually have something to do right now, cause it sounds like your just bored at work and don't really have anything to debate.

NYCisHome, I never said I saved Canada, shmuckzilla, I said that Canada doesn't go around pissing off the world so therefore has nothing to fear from those who are determined to take down america. You should try hearing their chants, I believe it goes "Death to america." Not, "Death to North America."

$1:
Remember what happened to France and England fopr their appeasment of Hitler.

Yeah and remember they were attacked by their neighbor. Like I said before, go and Heil your Bush Fuhrur. I plan on being ready for history to repeat itself minus the France and England this time.

"NYPeeisHome, look out a plane, run in fear again, ahhh"
All post 9/11 "security" legilation is based on fear. Boo.
Whats the difference between americans and Canadians, we're not jumping at our every shadow.
$1:
You are a spinless coward mike.
Ohh is that why I'm still here, posting away. Go put out your swastica before you get put in a "detention" camp.
