"Yes, we are not a melting pot, we believe in giving everyone their own space instead of making sure they become exactly like us."
Samething in the U.S Michael, multi-culturalism exists here as well...in fact if you go to the larger cities in here you would think you were in Canada with all the minorites which flourish here and still express their heritage and culture. It's a beautiful thing. Only thing is the problem with segregation in this kind of system, groups secluding themselves because they can relate easier to their own peers rather than other groups of people. This is an issue which we really need to address...thats why its important to make either U.S culture or Canadian culture central to their lives as well...thats where the melting pot ideal comes into the picture and should play a better role. I don't think neither the U.S or Canada are addressing this issue properly. Thats just my opinion though.
alienofwar, I can empathize. I too left my homeland to take advantage of the tremendous opportunities in America. A lot of things are different here, so you have to get used to a different set of values. Having lived in both countries for an extended period of time, I will sum it up as follows:
Canadians value government-enforced equality above all else (unless you are a straight white male)
Americans value success above all else
Since I am of above average intelligence (a member of MENSA in fact) and I am a hard worker, the choice was clear: I could stay in Canada and remain mediocre, or I could move to America and make something of myself. Most intelligent Canadians make the same choice that I did, sooner or later. There is simply no reason to remain in a country that punishes you for being the best.
LOL. The negative posts just keep on coming.
"This coming from somebody whose government are warmongers? You need to wake up my friend and smell the reality."
Okay....question, what does the war in Iraq have to do with what I just posted? Seriously, how is a foreign affair related to my experience in the U.S? I understand my current gov't in power is fighting to liberate the Iraqi citizens from militant terrorists and to rebuild that country...but I don't see how this addresses my experience in the U.S...if you could elaborate, that would helpful.
I think you need to wake up and smell the reality, if Im not mistakened....up to date there are hundreds of Canadians who are also fighting in Iraq for the U.S gov't so they can can gain a U.S citizenship. What does this tell you? They love this country so much that they are willing to die for it. Thats real patriotism and not the sham beer commericial patriotism that exists in Canada.
You are SO right former_canuck. You really hit it on the nail.
First off, a_former_canuck if you could kindly send me just the last "real" name by private post I would love to see if your a MENSA member. I am a member and I know ever Canadian and ex-Canadian. All MENSA members are listed. This should be interesting. Couldn't get a real job in Canada, huh??
Bonglord made a good point. Yeah, IF your one of the very few who's doing well in america, good for you. Have fun. Goodbye and goodriddance.
alienofwar, if you are just another god-bless-america touter then
weeeeeeeee, oh yes in deed its fun time...
Great that your having fun there. Oh and just wait... reality has a way of sneaking up and slapping you up side the back of your head when your not lookin'.
You should travel the rest of the country, only, don't stop at all the dolled up touristy areas. Here's a fun game, I call it count the homeless and unemployed. Or better yet, how about... count the elderly who just got dumped off medicare. Thats always a fun one. Can you even count that high?
Michael judging from your posts I'll bet you that your hateful attitude towards the U.S is what brought upon all that negativity you have experienced down here. You sound like someone who has a hard time socializing with others. Anyways, thats just my opinion.
You said...
"WHAT??!?!?!? You don't know anything about america. Hundreds of..?!?!
what? I can't go fight in the us military you +*^%&*_ (i.e.Stupidity 1. When someone is ignorant of something and chooses to remain so.). You can't gain citizenship by being in the military, what do you think this is?!?! STARSHIPTROOPERS????
Wholly molly 1.Open mouth. 2.Insert foot.
'scuse me fellas, I think I'm going ta move to New Zealand. But first, I'm gettin my Mory TATTOOS. And then I'm off to England after I practice my fake English accent.
alienofwar just officially dropped the IQ on this forum 40 points."
That was very insulting.
Anyways, you seem to have misread or misunderstood what I said: "up to date there are hundreds of Canadians who are also fighting in Iraq for the U.S gov't so they can can gain a U.S citizenship"
And what I read in Maclean magazine (yes, a library in Billings, Montana had a subscription to a Canadian magazine):
"Canadians make up the largest contingent of foreign nationals enlisted in the American military. They fill diverse roles, from ordnance technicians to front-line soldiers to administrative staff. Some join for the adventure, others to fast-track their U.S. citizenship applications (foreign veterans are often granted U.S. citizenship after their tour of duty; in July 2002, George W. Bush signed an executive order to further facilitate the process)."
"Current numbers are hard to pin down, but it's estimated that thousands of Canadians are enlisted in the 2.65-million-strong American armed forces. Hundreds have served or are now serving in Iraq, and at least one has died: Cpl. Bernard Gooden, 22, who immigrated to Canada from Jamaica in 1997, was killed in action on April 4, 2003."

I may have been mistakened in saying that ALL of them are trying to get U.S citizenship, but as this article points out a a portion of them are doing exactly that.
Now Michael...I think I deserve an appology after you insulted my intelligence like that. That was actually very hurtful.
alienofwar I will look into that book thank you.
As for our MIT grad, yeah sure. it never seems top amaze me how ignorant he is. Poeple like him is one of the reasons i am here. I travel to Canada often my wife is Canadian so we go to visit family. There was always people wiuth a bad attiutde towards the States. But in the past few years its grown into a haterd that everytime I go up I am meeting people like Our MIT grad. These are the same people who dont even vote in their own elections. Then they wanna tell me what to do. michaelreeagle you are a very special person you saved canada from terrorism cause of your conecctions to the Taliban LMAO. They assured him its a no-no to attack Canada. But its ok to stone your Daughter if she gets raped they said.
Why did you have to pay $4.500 for your knee in Canada I thought its free?
... Resistance is Futile!
...... Excuse Michael while he takes another hit of Peyote so he can forget his deeply engrained American enculturation and assimilation... we are all American Borg!
Someone asked me what canada would do if 9/11 happen in canada. Well, first off, it never would.
This is not a BS Canadian dream answer.
Like I said, the world is complicated. First I said, "I know it won't because I happen to know some Taliban in Vancouver and they said that Canada was a no-no in the terrorist world." He did like that, tee hee.
I love this qoute I am dying of laughter. Canada is safe. You are a spinless coward mike. Remember what happened to France and England fopr their appeasment of Hitler.
I didn't say I met them all, I said that it's posted at MENSA. A-duhh.
You don't have to fly to america to be kept informed.
"Canada has had more americans wanting to come live in Canada in the last 2 years than we have had in the last 10! And thats from Immigration Canada"
Yeah thats the Liberals wanting to leave (sore loosers or is it loosers), Please don't come to Canada we got enough dead wood already.
I am up to here with americans wanting to move here, but hey, there just trying to get out of Germany.. I mean american... whoops, slip o' the tounge.
