I find it interesting that this notion of a unified North America not only assumes it'll have a traditional U.S. flag, it doesn't include Mexico!

If you're talking about a unified North America, it needs to include Mexico.

Frankly, I like all three of us as we are. I might be an American, but I love Canada and Mexico as the nations they are. (The U.S. could learn a thing or two from its neighbors anyway.)

Maybe a European Union style fellowship could work, but the countries are similar yet diverse, and I like the differences as much as the similarities.

Are they talking about forming us joing in america, forming a completely new country or forming an economic union like the European Union. The EU is only about the economy of those countries involved. They don't have anything to do with the governing of eac individual country.

They talk alot about how the two countries are different and similar but they never say aanything about how they would plan to insitute this United North America.

If anything, I'm sure we'd be more of a pain in the ass to them than an assest. We might actually vote for a president who doesn't like to bomb the hell out of other people to bring it out of a recession.

This inane idea should only be considered when The Americans decide to blame us for whatever false reason and point all their nukes at us threatening to invade. But only after we burn down the White House again.

The difference between the EU and a North America is huge though. While Europe has enough small countries that can band together to combat the dominance of Germany (and to a lesser degree, France) the US economy is just too huge for Canada and Mexico to do the same.

If we were to try it, the US would run things their way and there is little we could do about it.

The site the fellow originally mentioned has some more stuff on it - I searched Canadaka.net and found this thread about the same site so I thought it would be interesting to revive the thread - go here for the new comments:

Call me extremist but I'd rather die than be assimilated by the US.

USCAdad @ Thu Dec 14, 2006 3:32 pm

I've only been in -30 once and I was none too fond of it. It was at 14 thousand feet on Mckinley which is supposed to make it worse but which ever way.... entirely too cold.

Pussy beer? As long as you don't count microbeers.

Still, I'm absolutely against the removal of borders. If anything I think we need more.

fatbasturd @ Thu Dec 14, 2006 3:44 pm

It was a joke....because Bart was pulling a necro....the previous reply before his is three years old.

USCAdad @ Thu Dec 14, 2006 3:45 pm

It's all good. I stay active on the site Bart listed. Nothing wrong with a good necro. ;) I'm a bit paranoid on the whole concept of integration.

Confused @ Mon Dec 18, 2006 7:37 pm

A United North America is an idea that scares me. It's not so much that I am anti-American, but the thought of throwing away our nation, our land is outrageous. People should stop putting economic benefit over things such as culture, people and morals. Canada must remain free at all costs.

Proculation @ Mon Dec 18, 2006 8:02 pm

I am for more economic integration with the US and the removal of most barriers to trading but I think the border needs to stay.
I would like to see a 100% free-trade union between Canada and the US but I would keep the canadian dollar since it's a good tool to help us because we are less productive than the US.
