I hope there's room on the boat for me too.

I did see something about the US/CANADA military joining together...I will find the article again, and maybe start a topic on it.

As far as the countries merging together goes, bad idea...Canada has their own history and values. They would just be made to give them up because the idea would be for everyone to be "americanized".

I still wouldn't agree with it even if there was a way to do it fairly and just.
It would be impossible for both countries to be treated equally in the union.

...and if the Canadian military is following the US into every illegal war and dirty tricks campaign around, what happens to our sovereignty?

blubs @ Mon Dec 15, 2003 9:15 pm

That would be the end of Canada for sure. may as well dig a hole and lay in it. Then again those robust penetrating bomb thingies would get me.

I agree with you, i think our troops will be joining the U.S. troops someplace warm very soon for things other than peace keeping.

blubs @ Tue Dec 16, 2003 5:53 am

I am keeping an eye on Martin Rev I am afraid of him I think he is gonna be another Mulrony

Rev_Blair @ Tue Dec 16, 2003 6:35 am

He's showing all the signs, Blubs. He is a Liberal though...a man in the middle. If the NDP becomes the official opposition, he might start stealing policy from them instead of the radical right.

Martin has tried pretty hard to disassociate himself from his Bay Street buddies, but when the chips are down, he has a tendency to back them. If we keep on this guy, we can keep him from doing that.

blubs @ Tue Dec 16, 2003 7:07 pm

I do intend to keep a close watch on him. Problem is we are just"little people" will the listen to us?

Rev_Blair @ Tue Dec 16, 2003 8:15 pm

Let's see...He froze almost every expenditure today, but on Saturday he gave his business pals a $4 billion tax break.

None of these guys want to listen, Blubs. They have their own agendas...usually having to do with six figure salries for sitting on boards when they retire from politics. They will listen if pound the hell out them enough, though. Remember when Mulroney had to back down on cuts to CPP? That was a bunch of old people, mostly women who hadn't worked since they got married, who did that.

There are things that you can do. Write to your MP and the PMO. Write to your local paper. If you are a union member, get involved. Unions do a lot more than than bargain over workplace issues, they are political machines. Join a political party. It doesn't matter if the Marijuana Party or the Liberals, political parties influence people. Get involved in the anti-globalisation movement. The way globalisation is unfolding, it benefits only a very few people in a very few nations. Many leaders of developing nations credited support from the anti-globalisation movement with helping them to send the US and EU packing in Cancun, and in holding them up in Florida. Even Chretien appeared to be seeing the light after Cancun. Vote. A lot of people, even those in political parties and especially those who show up at protests don't bother to take that twenty minutes every few years. It always amazes me.

Probably the most important thing is to learn about the issues and talk back every chance you get.

blubs @ Tue Dec 16, 2003 8:29 pm

I must say I was never up on the issues till a good buddy of mine from westlock put me onto this site. And now the SOB has me addicted. I have learned a lot from this site and your postings. My big problem is being a liberal of sorts and kinda wanting to join but with Martin at the helm I dont know where to turn. The P.Cs or who ever they are calling themselves this are most deffinately out. NDP I rather like some of their beliefs. Too bad you could not roll all three into one party. I meantake the best Ideas from each party and incorporate them. I am totaly afraid of Martin. I havent had the news on today I cant believe he froze expenditures and gave his buddies a 4 billion dollar tax brake.
I have always believed a common man would make the best P.M Agrass roots kind of guy who would put the people first. That would not happen cause power corrupts the first few weeks in office he would give perks to his buddies. So I guess we are stuck. Butr I am gonna start getting more involved. Jeez I think Canada Kicks ass is becomming a bad influence on me. Oh well.

Rev_Blair @ Wed Dec 17, 2003 5:40 am

Something we should all learn more about is proportional representation. The NDP and the Alliance recently united to bring a bill forth in the H of C, so it has a pretty wide base of support. Similar things have been tried and are working in various other countries. I like the model in Scotland, myself.

Basically it replaces our "first past the post" system and divides power based on the popular vote instead of who won a particular riding. If a party gets 47% of the popular vote, they only get 47% of the MPs. It makes it much more difficult for the ruling party to simply ram a bill throught the House.

blubs @ Wed Dec 17, 2003 5:50 am

do you think it would here in Canada?

F/sgt Cam @ Wed Dec 17, 2003 10:29 am
