Al Gore is still talking about TUVALU being submerged when actually the sea-level there is dropping. Likely Gore has no idea where TUVALU even is.

I'm sorry you failed second grade geography, hwacker.

Actually I passed it and took similar classes in the big kid’s school; you know the one you dropped out. How’s that GED coming?

Ice occupies more space and is less dense than water, so if the Arctic ice cap melts the sea levels will fall.

What about the south pole or Greenland?

Both polar region combined make up about 2.4% of total water, not sure about the comparitive North and South balance.

Just a drop in the ocean, as they say.

Sure, if 12 billion gallons of water is drop to you.

Islands are being slowly swallowed up by the ocean as we speak, due to the rising sea level.

If Greenland and the Antarctic melt, we are fucked.

And...which islands would they be?

And yes 12 billion gallons is a drop when compared with 328 million cubic miles of water.

Each cubic mile holds 1.1 Trillion gallons, so thats 360 Trillion gallons. That is a total including the ice under water.

That's assuming the water levels rise by 10 metres, and if all the ice was above current sea levels which it is not.

Water volume increases by 9% when frozen. so the ice currently under water would give up 9% of it's occupied volume if melted.
Another reason why MacDonalds fills their coke with crushed ice.

The decrease in level at the Arctic offset by the increase at the Antarctic and an increase in airborne water vapour caused by the higher temperature may and I say may cause a decrease in sea levels.

We still can't accurately tell what the weather is going to be like this Saturday let alone what the effects of a massive melt that eliminates the poles. Let's say in a single generation the pole melts, wouldn't that constitute a massive disruption in and of itself? A tsunami is just water displaced after all. Do we really know what sort of impact that might have? Wouldn't that tend to increase the trend toward more extreme weather events? How can food be produced if the limited farmland we have left is either underwater or prone to the threat of constant droughts/floods?

Again that could be if there is a rise in sea level. Still no concrete evidence in sea levels rising. Some of the world islands are rolling, that is, one coastline is sinking the opposite coastline is rising. England is slowly rolling West to East.

I'd like to see proof of this.

that way they don't have to defend the indefensible and explain why shrinking glaciers are growing, why the predicted worst Hurricane Season never happened.

And proof of this as well if you don't mind. I'm curious.

Sasquak is very well known on several forums for just making stuff up, then when confronted about his bogus statements just says nothing.

Speaking to a group of Republican MPs, Dr Gray had harsh words for researchers and politicians who said man-made greenhouse gases were responsible for global warming. "

If you 'cannonball' into the pool your not adding more water your displacing it. The same principal will effect water levels globally when the ice rapidly melts.

No shit he's a politician, but to portray the C02 amount leading the temp increase, is with out a doubt a complete lie, the ice core samples indicated the exact oposite, temp increase leads C02.

It's pretty basic science, carbon dioxide traps heat. We are currently making more carbon dioxide than ever before.

If you still need further proof, you may want to take a look at the planet Venus for the results of a full-on greenhouse effect.

$1:
To top it all of, the man owns a carbon credit trading company. The profits of his silly film mean nothing, the profits from trading carbon credits, and his hysterical domesday mantra, tell me he's an opportunist charlatan, selling snake oil and nothing more.

Is it still such a bad thing to promote being more responsible, even if the messenger isn't so responsible themself? If you don't need Al Gore to lead you, why can't you lead yourself?

This kind of argument really boils down to a child's level of thinking that when they're grown up they can just eat candy all the time and never go to sleep, without realizing the consequences of those activities. How did we end up with several generations of people who never consider the idea that actions have consequence, except for when they get to carry out those consequences, regardless of the fact that it was their own actions that led to them having to carry out those consequences?

The health of our planet is at stake and so many people would rather buy into the confusion of debunking sound science than just admit that there is not only no harm, but probably great benefit, in doing things in a more ecologically balanced manner. It's moral laziness at its worst.

Yes of course, I think Gore is a scheming politician, and Suzuki is a fool, so I must automatically think saving the planet is not a priority.

What were you saying about childish thinking?

Just try filling a container with ice...let it melt...see how full it is after....same principle.

Ice has greater volume than water.

Wouldn't that tend to increase the trend toward more extreme weather events? How can food be produced if the limited farmland we have left is either underwater or prone to the threat of constant droughts/floods?

This IPCC/Al Gore version of science has produced some wild predictions which leave reality behind.

The prediction that warming produces extreme weather when historically wearming periods are marked by absence of extreme weather and cooling periods are marked by extreme weather.

The prediction that warming with produce massive flooding by melting polar ice caps. It is estimated by the experts that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet will take about 7000 years to melt. It is estimated that the Antarctic ice Cap is perhaps 250 million years old.

The IPCC reports the Antarctic Ice Cap is shrinking and raising sea levels. The Antarctic Ice Cap is growing in mass.

The IPCC predict widespread famine due to warming. With the exception of the drought which affected the Yucatan....the ME Warming produced bountiful harvests, resulting population explosions in the Northern Hemisphere....resulting in the Viking/Mongol period of conquest. The LIA cooling resulted in widespread crop failures....tax rolls and grain price records indicate this. Researchers speculate that the mortality of the Black Death was largely due to a malnourished population.

The IPCC predict warming to predict pandemics, especially malaria further north. Cooling periods were disease ridden. The last malaria epidemic in moscow occurred in the later part of the LIA cooling. All plague periods occurred during the cool Dark Ages and LIA period.

In short AGW theory is predicting the opposite of the historical experience re cooling/warmings.

Don't bother referring to the "thousands of scientists" who produced the IPCC reports----they didn't.
The scientists met, debated and then submitted their findings then the UN bureaucrats set the findings aside and then wrote the reports which appear to have no relevance to science.
