If these cowards are claiming war crimes then they should stand up in a court and say so as opposed to running away.

oh my God. oh my God. I'll say it again oh my God. being a soldier and going against the grain takes alot more guts than you might know. you can call them cowards all you want, they're most likely twice the person you are. what do you know about what these soldiers have been through? what would you do if you were up against your countries interests, and every single road you took lead to nothing, and ontop of that every single person was calling you a coward?

You really have no clue do you ?

They are cowards, you sign under freewill then you decide it's not really the job for you. Get these POS out of my country and to Leavenworth ASAP.

It is a volunteer military, but its not like volunteering at the local fire department. You cant just up and quit when you want, if I wanted to leave the military it could take up to 4 months before I could even see a date when I could be released. They could very well say no, that I have to stay untill my contract has expired.

And the person wanting out of a job like the military may have to give more than 2 weeks notice. But if a kid who never expected he'd be sent to Iraq says "I don't wanna go", he shouldn't be sent to prison for it.

Axeman, it's hardly a secret that the US military has been at war or in combat since 2001. If you sign up for the US Army it shouldn't be too much of a shock that you will be sent to Iraq or Afghanistan.Nobody forced them to sign up and they are all volunteers.
These guys are cowards. They should return and do the stockade time.

Those that support them are just using these losers to further their own anti-military, anti-establishment agenda.

Many people make bad career choices. Is it only the military that are such ass hats about it? and who says that cowards should do time? they are the ones the brave are sworn to protect are they not?

It's in the contract they sign wada. Everybody in the military knows what disobeying orders entails.

Jail.

They should do their jail time and take the discharge and stop wasting everybodies time.

Again people are treating this like these people were working at McDonalds. It is the military, if you decide to abandon your responsiblity you will be punished. :x

Wholly fuck man, a career in the Military is not a career with Simpson Sears. Like EB said, they have been fighting since 01, there is no fucking way they could be "surprised" when they're turn came up to deploy.

Then again... That they desert, ok, whatever. But why should Canada take care of them?

Pseudonym @ Mon Feb 02, 2009 10:15 am

Keep them! We don't want them back! :P

roger-roger @ Mon Feb 02, 2009 10:18 am

You made em you keep em... 8)

Personally I can't decide if I am sick of the deserters or just sick of this topic popping up every month or so. YAWN!

You know, I'm almost right on the fence with this issue. I understand both sides of the argument. But I sure don't appreciate being called "anti-military" for the position I'm taking because I'm certainly not. But, ultimately, I still believe anyone who wants to change their career, for whatever reason, ought to be allowed to do so without persecution or prosecution. When you call these people cowards and losers, you're really saying more about your character than theirs, sorry to say. And it's nothing personal, Eye, I enjoy your posts, but your last sentence above was out of line.

I actually cast a wider net then I meant there axe. You are right that supporting their rights does not by default mean that you are anti-military.
I did let my emotions run away a bit there.
Those of us who have served tend to have a very 'black and white' view of this one as it stirs very deep feelings within.

That aside there are many people from more radical walks of life who have latched on to this people in order to further their own agenda.
Those are the people I'm referring to, not you.

I used a shotgun instead of a rifle on this and for any offence I caused you and others keeping an open mind on this, I apologise.

Sometimes I need a slap and I went over the top a tad.

I appreciate that. I understand that a fair lot of military bashing goes on, and that hits a raw nerve with the servicemen here. I wasn't really that offended. I just think that there are probably a lot of people who support the military strongly and also believe that people should be allowed out if they want. Cheers!
