funny

I also find it funny, or rather sad that our enemies soldiers,or any nations soldiers for that matter that aren't on our side that have fought and lost, they are condemned for what they have done... by the states. yet when it comes to our own soldiers and the soldiers of our allies, we call them cowards for that very reason, because they don't want to commit war crimes.

Fighting in Afghanistan/Iraq does not automatically count as a warcrime.

Soldiers are taught from day one that they are not required to follow illegal orders - hence they are not required to conduct war crimes.

I understand you may think this as simplistic, but it is quantum mechanics compared to the final sentance in your post.

alright now you listen to me eisensapper. I don't care how many tours you've been on. shit happens in war, bad shit, not only by our enemies soldiers but also by our very own. that's a fact. you can continue making remarks about that being a joke but seriously dude, you're just fooling yourself and you know it.

Brenda @ Mon Jan 12, 2009 10:43 pm

Fighting in a war, and committing war crimes are not the same, BB.

People get a bit tired of the bullshit of calling all soldiers murderers and committers of war crimes.

Back off.

Nice to see we a new arm chair general on the forum. So how do you gather these so called "facts" you speak of. I know for a real fact that on my tour no one commited a war crime. I think this is another case of someone watching Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan way too many times.

"Oh wow I didnt know the allies did that back in WWII, that must still being going on these days!!"

Please come up with some evidence to support you claim that soldiers are unwilling commiting war crimes in Afghanistan.

Ya, they want to emphases the 'horrors of war' I can remember both scenes in each movie where the American soldiers go full auto on unarmed German soldiers who are either prisoners or are surrendering.

Ah I know the one in Band of Brothers. On D-Day, but cmon, it's D-day, they can't be toting prisoners around with them. Can't let them go either. Shit happens.

Also, in real life, that's only speculated. It was never confirmed that Spiers did that.

Not to mention that it was over 60 years ago...

An Angus Reid poll says that 64% of Canadians are in favour of granting them asylum, and a motion passed in our own Parliament...you know that democratically elected body...a motion calling for the government to halt all deportation orders.

Whaddyer all think? Personally I'm in favour of letting them stay. Just because you sign on the dotted line and volunteer doesn't mean you're forced to abandon your own personal moral compass and sense of conscience...or at least I don't think so.

This makes no sense, this is why we have a volunteer armed forces. You agree to serve in whateer capacity the Command assigns no matter what. You don't want to fight, don't join

You have no idea of what the actual trianing of armed forces people comprises. When i did my trraining they made it very clear in our training that we had the right to refuse what we believe was an illegal order. The issue was tht if you believe that an order was illegal then you would refuse to carry out that order, the clincher is tht you must be prepared to defend your actions in front of a military court.

What these ass hats are doing is refusing to go because they don't agree with the war, that's fine they're entitled to thier opinion, If they refuse to go then they should have as much courage to stand up for thier convictions in a court of law to prove that what they are doing is right, and that the war itself is illegal.

Deserting hampers thier case not helps it, you can go on TV and bad mouth the war etc etc, but unless their willing to stand up before the militray they pledged to serve and exlain to a jury of thier peers that the war is illegal they they are simply cowards.

Guess what...thats war...not a PTA meeting. Genrally in a war bullets tend to fly and large explosive objects are flying around. But the question is whether it's subjective or objective. If these cowards are claiming war crimes then they should stand up in a court and say so as opposed to running away.
