Top Liberal defects to Tories

RUEZ RUEZ:
You liberals would probably understand this better if there was a critical vote coming up and Emerson crossed the floor in order to give the Conservatives the majority. Now quit yer cryin'.
Given the fact that Harper has a minority government, and doesn't even have the numbers to pass a vote unless he can get the support of at least 2 other parties,
every vote is a critical vote.
Besides... it's what... 2 weeks since his constituents voted for him as a Liberal... after he openly criticized Harper?
Face it... all you cons who are making excuses for him are... what was that word again?
Oh yeah. Apologists.

Does anyone seriously believe he crossed without being assured of a cabinet position?
These next several months are going to be fun.

Emerson has publicly said that he crossed because he wanted to continue serving in Cabinet.....He said he joined the Liberals because Martin offered him a Cabinet position, and he joined the Cons because Harper offered him a Cabinet position......Harper said he did it because he needed a Cabinet Minister in Van, so obviously he offered the Cabinet position to him in the initial offer.
Same thing with the non-elected guy from Quebec....He said he did it because they needed a Cabinet Minister from Montreal.....
lily lily:
Funny... I don't recall you saying that when Belinda crossed.
No...she was a Conservative who joined the Liberals!

There is a small diference in the belinda crossing. This guy crossed before or minutes after the governmnet was sworn in. Belinda did it right in the middle of a vote.

I think that makes what Emerson did a lot worse. His riding was a split between Liberal, and NDP. There was no real Conservative portion of the vote there.
The Conservatives apparently "courted" him beforew this election, and before the last election, asking him to run as a Conservative....
So he looked at his riding and said....what Party do the people who live here want to vote for?
Liberal?
Ok, I'll run as a Liberal to get elected, and then change afterwards if the Liberals lose.
He gets elected, and then joins the Party that will give him a Cabinet position.....

1. He's a man.
2. He crossed to the Cons.
That doesn't matter
I still don't agree with it, but I don't think it was as bad as belinda.

but I don't think it was as bad as belinda.
Why?
They both crossed the floor for a cabinet position.
Why do you make excuses for one while condemning the other?
The timing was different. One fucked over the cons, one was jumping ship.

Exactly, you only have a problem with what Belinda did because it hurt the party that you support. You have a double standard.
Did you read my other post btw? It was submitted like 20 seconds after yours...

Of course I have a double standard. So do you. Everyone has a double standard. This guy knew the libs were going down, and instead of going with them he jumped ship. I don't agree with it, but he did. Belinda, in the middle of voting, decided to jump ship.

This all seems very undemocratic to me, instead of winning the riding, the cons just offer cabinet seats to the other parties who did win. This guy's constituents really got cheated out of the democratic process. Only 2 weeks after t he election, he swithches sides after running under a totally different platform, esentially flip-flopping on every promiss he made. If he is a conservative, he should have ran as one, considering he knew both party platforms when he ran. There should be a referendum in his riding.
Emerson has to step down and an immediate by election needs to be held in his riding. Win or lose, it will demonstrate an adherence to a code of conduct that the Conservatives said they would bring to government.

No, I don't.
Unlike many people, I can criticize the party I support.
The Cons who loudly proclaimed Belinda a whore last year are oddly supportive of Emerson.
I find that hypocritical on so many levels.
I am not supportive, which means I technically don't have a double standard. I don't like either doing it, but I see more of a reason for emerson then belinda. I can criticize the conservative party. I just don't all that much because I tend to agree with them. For instance, bringing back SSM marriage is rediculous.

Waaaaa! Waaaaa!
Cry you little babies. Harper asked him before the election to come over if they won to run the Finance department. Now folks, this guy has had the magic touch and every job he's taken has fourished. Consider some of the other front runners and their abilities. At least Emerson has a proven track record.
Besides, politics is a blood sport. To even consider being a politicians normally means you've sold your soul. you guys are talking like these guys are saints and all have been blessed by the pope himself. Get real. Would you rather sit in second place and do nothing for two years, or sit in the cabinet and have a major say in what happens. Any of you deciding to sit on your ass for two years should stop bullshitting yourself and take the path David Emerson took.
Good luck David. Nice run for office.

I was looking for some, everything has been pulled and shredded off his websites, he's a new man.

Again... why? Last time you mentioned the timing. That's irrelevant.
What makes Emerson's crossing more acceptable than Stronach's... other than the direction?
How is timing irrelevant? One was while the liberal government was hanging in the balance. One was before the government was sworn in and had nothing to do with issues. The guy wants to be in a winning party, belinda wanted to be treated like a queen because she saved the libs ass.

I wonder if he is running around shredding election pamplets too....man someone should start selling them on ebay...
