We need to stop the partisan bashing about this coalition.

Partisan bashing ruleZ!
Better angels of out nature would be nice but it's not going to happen. One thread down you've got someting called "Welcome to the Harper Dictatorship", with all the usual suspects having themselves a good chuckle. Harper's a fascist, Harper's a Nazi, Harper's gonna steal away my right to be a total welfare-sucking knob, yadda, yadda, yadda. Same old slanderous song and dance from the crowd that ran out of new ideas a long time ago.
All life is war, or something to that effect. Why not just enjoy the adrenaline rush of a good scrap instead of preaching peace to two sides who simple aren't interested in it?
Given that the typical reaction of many Conservatives is to call everyone else socialists, I see it as a case of living in glass houses and throwing stones.
Don't want to be called a facist or Hitler wannabe, then don't label Liberals/NDPers commies/socialists. Turnabout is fairplay, it's that simple.
Two wrongs may not make a right, but like you said, life is war.

2008, $2 billion deficit. We don't need economists like that running the country.
Show me where you got this info from.
There were half a dozen threads before this whole bruhaha started about how our budget went from a surplus to a deficit. According to Flaherty's own fiscal update, the only way to avoid a deficit was to gut his political enemies and have a fire sale of assets.
Given that Parliament is suspended, well, now we can't do any of that, can we? To me, that spells deficit.

We may very well end up in a deficit, but don't you think it's a little premature and dishonest to be claiming there is one already?
Not at all.
Like I said, Flaherty's own update said without his changes, we'd be short THIS year. Now that the GG has prorogued Parliament, by law, nothing can be done...no new bills, no new spending, no tax cuts, NOTHING! Therefore, if Flaherty was right, we're going to be in a deficit this year. Unless Harper suddenly decides to reopen it soon to pass a mini budget, which would be voted down and an election called or a Liberal/NDP coalition created, it's game over.
Sorry, but Harper and Flaherty's actions have now guaranteed a deficit in 2008.

Isn't it a bit rich for the very coalition that is promising a 30 billion dollar bail out and have yet to tell us where this money is coming from to be complaining about a deficit?

the coalition was an idea the politicans came up with, not the people who voted for em.

Well, given that Harper spent most of the surplus last year, its pretty obvious that Canada will run a deficit for a year or two at least, depending on the length and severity of the recession, no matter who runs the show. That $30 billion was one of the reasons I didn't like the coalition.
I find it amazing that the US is spending $700 billion, China is spending $582 billion and Harper wanted to spend $2 billion. If that doesn't make you question him, nothing will. I honestly don't know how much the stimulus package should be for, but Harper's $2 billion was too small and the coalition's $30 billion was too big. Somewhere in the middle is what Canada likely needs.

No offense but I think I'll wait until someone in the know actually says there is a deficit.
Like Flaherty before his proposed changes, which now wont be put into effect?
I'm siding with Bottlegga on this one.
Noble sentiments QBC but even in the title of the thread, “We need to stop the partisan bashing about this coalition” you are picking a side, that side being the coalition. Then you go on to say “ I didn’t want Harper to be our Prime Minister”.
You have picked your sides and all these nice posts are basically saying, “Tories please stop responding to our attacks.”
You can’t have it both ways.
Unfortunately this country has gone through four years of political uncertainty already. The big problem is that neither the Tories or the Libs will get a majority while Quebec elects 40-50 seats for the Bloc in Canada’s Parliament. Not bashing the Bloc but it’s a simple fact.
As for the ‘cut and thrust’ on here. I’m sorry. Harper’s side of the house is the most united. The Liberals are a mess and their civil war will just get nastier with Iggy and Rae. None of them, Tories and Liberals that is, seem to value political stability over personal ambition.
I vote Tory because they are the least shite of a shit bunch. I won’t defend Harper’s screw ups or his arrogance but the choices besides Harper are even worse.
Plenty of Liberals and NDP voters in here have just spouted party propaganda by the thousands of words. Harper is the demon and they sit a defend the indefensible which is this coalition. I would love to be able to endorse a united party but the Liberals are not it at the moment. The NDP sold their souls to the Bloc and who can trust Layton anymore?
Like I said, shit choices all around.
The only good thing that I can see coming out of this mess is a renewed interest from the millions of Canadians who were too engaged it the US election to vote in their own election.
Really the only way out of this mess is another election in February. At least we should have a decent turnout. I'll accept a Tory or Liberal majority if it's what the electorate vote for. I just hope that it's not Dion still in charge.
Opps I posted seasonally unadjusted data.

Hyperion, what you have said was never the point of this thread.
And i'm saying tha the 'point' of this thread is simply cover for the left to back away from a series of poor deicisons. A few days ago it was 'Hell yes!' for the 'coalition' and now it's 'let's talk'
If you really want to talk about the problem we face, let's talk about how the liberal party wants Dion to be replaced, let's talk about how the BQ is going to have massive leverage in this 'coalition' government.
And if you're so serois about talk and partisan attacks it's seems that your maximum leader (at least for this week) didn't get your memo
Dion Says Haper has wasted timeYou call for non-partisan attacks and then your 'coaliton goes about and does just that.
hypocrisy anyone?Your spewing it harsh man. Point of this thread was that we should get over the political and partisan bullshit, regardless of who we like, so we can prosper as a nation and overcome the current crisis.
Just because he supports one party doesn't automatically make him partisan. I support harper, ut i'm not being partisan. I want a solution we can all work together and agree upon, and it is my belief and understanding from this thread that QBC is trying to do just that.
So do yourself a favour and dislodge your head from your ass before you embarras yourself even more.
I'm not the one calling for 'discussion and then turning around and launching attacks,
this is your party doing this. I've simply highleghted that all this hope for enlightend discussion is flying in the face of what the Liberal party is doing now that the coalition is falling aprt, but the liberal party is once again in Civil War.
You claim to want to get over 'partisan and poltical attacks' as does QBC but in multiple threads i've seen him and you attack Prime minister Haper and now you are attacking me, not that i care i'm just pointing out that while you're calling for 'discussion' you seem to be attacking the person, and not the idea. My idea being is that this hope for 'non-partisanship' hasnt even survived 5 pages into this thread simply shows that you and other liberal supporters are wanting some cover because of the mess they've created.
And now that the damage has been done by Dion John Manley in now calliing for his resignation.
The Libral Party has once again shown why their not fit to govern in any way shape or form

The hope for enlightened discussion is amongst most liberal supporters, not the party itself (which in its current state makes me want to vomit). Learn to differentiate between the two.

Where have you seen me attack Harper? I critisize the man, as any followers hsould of their leader. An uncritisized politician is like Pittbull off its leash.
Also, I wouldn't call advising someone to dislodge their head from their ass an attack. Its advice, take it if you want.

All party's have shown once again why they are not fit to govern, but we are stuck with wh we got; Harper, who thankfully is the best man for the job, even if he does fuck up more often than he should. The best of four bad apples.

Reading very much between the lines?...I picked our side, the everyday Canadian. You can read into it as you wish, but I was being honest, not picking a side.
The language you used said otherwise. and the every day Canadian doesn't vote Tory?
Really, your political stripes are well shown.
No disgrace in it, just don't pretend you are presenting a near-neutral stance.
