We need to stop the partisan bashing about this coalition.

I see it's still all about pointing fingers and what has been said here has not been heard. The status quo is good enough for some I guess.

First things first: take him out.
After all, Stephen Harper is the most dangerous animal lurking in the jungles of Parliament. He is a threat to the future viability of the Liberals. A blood simple opponent of the NDP and the only serious contemporary challenge to the Bloc Quebecois. Without him, his party is an unlikely combination of Reform Party leftovers, Harris refugees and Red Tory desperates. They don't matter or even exist without Mr. Harper. So before you think a moment longer, opposition leaders, think on that.
...
This becomes relevant because suddenly, he is weak. In fact, at this particular moment, he is almost unable to defend himself. Owing to a ridiculously ill-considered act of hubris, he has laid himself vulnerable to his opponents. Their imperative could not be more clear: kill him. Kill him dead. Do not, whatever you do, provide him with an opportunity to extend his hold on power. Because you can be damn certain he will never again be so reckless as to give you a chance to finish him off.
That was the original printing and has since been eddited.
Scott Reid was the communications director for former prime minister Paul Martin.
He is also very fond of beer & popcorn.
Hyperion, Apollo, and so many others are right on this. This is just more spin.
As for status quo.. isn't the coalition all about challenging status quo?

That's not the point or what I'm talking about, you know that. Our nation is going to slip into the abyss and all people can do is stick to the party lines. I'm say we should knock that partisan BS off. Read what I and a few others have said about not supporting the coalition or the path the Prime Minister has chosen.
If it was simply about the economy, I think the proof was the market itself. Investors and businesses need stability and this coalition, expecially tainted with the NDP, has terrified them. Didn't the TSE drop it's farthest on that day?
If it's simply about the economy and weathering these tough times, it's pretty obvious that the status quoe is the way to go.

It's about saving Canada! This partisan he said she said BS need to stop!. People need to focus on what is best for the country not what is best for themselves.
I actually do not support either the Liberals or the Conservatives fully. I like some things the Libs offer and other things the Cons offer.

I consider myself a "Blue Liberal". I didn't want Harper to be our Prime Minister. I don't trust him, not that I really trust any politician, but I didn't want him. Having said that, this coalition idea is coming at the wrong time and for the wrong reasons.
If the Liberals had chosen a new leader, not a guy thats on the way out, to lead this, maybe. If it hadn't been about my tax dollars going for political campaigning and raises for MP's or no strikes for public employees when so many Canadians are loosing their jobs, maybe.
I don't support this at this time, but, Harper and the rest of our elected officials have to get on the ball and start to react to our economy. We are in trouble as a nation and this is no time for partisan anything. That goes for the discussions on this site. Instead of the status quo, we should maybe trying to brain storm collectively about how to help each other and our nation during this troubled time. Then once we had some constructive ideas, no matter from what member or his/her political leanings, and forward them onto all the parties political leaders. Lets not just fall back on our normal partisan flaming and work together, rise above the normal, our nation needs it.
This is the usual Liberal-speak that theyve been using, blame Harper and then call for 'co-operation'. You Liberals have been demonising Harper fo so long now that only the small core of leftists actually listen anymore. If you guys really want to put your money where your mouth is, down the government in Februrary.
Oh and good luck with that coalition thing, isn't looking so good now is it?
And by the way who'll be your leader in February? Dion, Rae, Ignatieff, Kennedy?
Do you people really expect Canada to put their trust in a party when they you guys dont even know who'll be your next expebdable leader in two months?
I think this is one of the most partisan swipes i've seen in this thread, and its coming for a right winger.
And before you go off the wall screaming Liberal left, I voted for
HARPER and as much as he fucked up over the past two weeks, I still think he is the best man for the job as prime minister. Its just that, like all the children in parliment who can't play along, he needs a good spanking by the Canadian people.
Anyways, I see lots of people calling for change here, and voicing their opinions, but only Yogi has said anything so far in the thread I made. I want to play the blame game too, but i realise now is o longer the time for that, and that no matter who was right or wrong, be it yesterday or way back in 2004, now is the time to find the solution, not attack eachother over our problems. If we come out of this crisis alive, that will be the time to start beating eachother senseless and return to our political norm.

Then let me be more sussinct, I voyed for Harper and his party and i would do so again. Also that i support gun control, abortion on demand and Gay marriage, so im not exactly our typical "Right wing supporter".
For several days now the left and extreme left were hell bent for leather to get this 'coalition' Done and to replace the the Prime Minister Haper's government as the ruling body in Canada. They we're no elected to do so but they tried anyways. And yet within the short space ofa very few days major fault lines have already developed in the Liberal/NDP/BQ alliance to the point were now Liberals are again calling for Dion to resign, and resign right now so they can get a new leader in by February.
This whole thread isn't about the left looking to be conicialtory, it's about them realizing that they've have a fantasy for the past few days but have woke up agin to the rality of thier own party, leader and preparedness to run the country. They know, we know , and now most of Canada knows it. And so they are depsrately trying to move this 'coalition' talk back to 'cooperation' talk when they realized that they had a leader who is a non-entity, a party whose arrogance is unchecked, and willing to deals with other parties to run canada, that want to destroy it.
The Harper Government is doing an execellent job, there are no real complaints except from the extrme left and the moderates in this country realize that the CPC has done exceedingly well over the last two years. The last two days on the other hand have shown that the politcal left in our country is more interested in trying to grab power that come thier job honestly. If your the oppositon , you vote agaisnt the government. And yet the left again in this country compromised itself on every major vote, and now they think Canadians want them in charge.
This is what people on the street see, they seen instability from the Liberals and NDP and Bloc. They see calm leadership from the CPC, so in two months the opposition will get thier chance to do what they should be doing and simply vote with their conscience and see if they send us back to the polls

It sort of appears FOUR of the parties are able to move beyond sheer ideology and come to a compromise. Seems to be just ONE stuck on their party lines.
"Never working with socialists" is a rallying cry that tells 1/4 of Canadians they're going to get screwed right off the bat.
Implying that the interests of Quebec and the interests of Canada can never coincide seems to be an even more stubborn and ignorant position that the Bloc has ever taken.
The fifth party refuses to fall in line. Refuses to accept and middle ground.
There doesn't seem to be any solution at this time to bring a compromise.
Dion is being 'taken care of'.
Now Harper must go.

It's not about 'socialist' ideals, you clown are getting into bed with a party that wants to destroy Canada, and you want everyday Canadians to trust you on that?
Get real

Hyperion, what you have said was never the point of this thread.
Scape @ Sat Dec 06, 2008 12:59 pm
The fundamentals of the economy are strong said John McCain. We knew that was far from fact. The countries that are going to ride this storm out are the ones that have paid down the debt, have strongly regulated banks and are investing in the short and mid term in infrastructure to keep the jobs and money flowing. We will not be better off if we become the next Venezuela and become an oil based banana republic but we will be doing just that if there is no plan. We need the Ford mentality at work again where a company made product at a low cost so that the workers could afford what they were building and it became self sustaining. Call centers and service sector jobs will be the 1st jobs cut in recession, manufacturing and tech will be the jobs that get us back on our feet. The plan must be to get that manufacturing base back to put Canada back to work. To do that we need a strong education and health system so that such jobs can ferment. I don't see that plan yet but at least the coalition is moving in that direction as they can see what way the win is blowing.

And i'm saying tha the 'point' of this thread is simply cover for the left to back away from a series of poor deicisons. A few days ago it was 'Hell yes!' for the 'coalition' and now it's 'let's talk'
If you really want to talk about the problem we face, let's talk about how the liberal party wants Dion to be replaced, let's talk about how the BQ is going to have massive leverage in this 'coalition' government.
And if you're so serois about talk and partisan attacks it's seems that your maximum leader (at least for this week) didn't get your memo
Dion Says Haper has wasted timeYou call for non-partisan attacks and then your 'coaliton goes about and does just that.
hypocrisy anyone?
