Wow, good explanation. I fully understand how your irrational mind thinks now.

No, it's really not more complex than that. You use oil byproducts, oil companies make oil byproducts. Oil companies want money in exchange for their oil byproducts. You have money. You give them money for their oil byproducts. They make more money.

But you are not the only person who has money and wants oil byproducts, and the demand increases every day while supplies decrease. There are billions of other people who also want oil byproducts. Markets are a game of supply and demand, and when supply is low, and demand is high, cost goes up. When the cost goes up, and you keep buying, oil companies make more profit. Profit does not come from thin air.

So, it's your choice. Reduce your consumption or quit bitching, cause the price isn't going to go down.
Bullshit you don't see the bigger picture. Wheres the competeition between the oil refineries? Irrational my ass. But you hold on to your arguement and I'll hold on to mine. These bozo have free riegn to didcate what profit they make at our expense. Bottom line.

Ok, why stop at regulating the oil companies? How about we regulate how much retailers make? After all, their products have a higher markup than the oil companies. Hey, how about we tell the company YOU work for and say they can only make a certain amount of money?

Your reaction is a knee-jerk reaction. It's a short-term solution with long term consequences. I cringe to think that this is truely a serious consideration in the political parties.

I don't see the bigger picture? Listen. The bigger picture is that industrial society is not sustainable. Bitching and whining that there isn't enough competition between oil refineries is about as useful as rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. The age of oil is over, and the more you kick and scream about it, the more painful it's going to be for you to realise this.

Well, you can keep your fool's dream that the oil companies will some day care that your wallet is empty. I'll ride my bike and keep taking the bus. When you start complaining about having to choose between food or fuel, I will laugh at you as we all starve.

Yogi, think about what gasoline is. The chemical mixup doesn't change a whole lot between the companies. Hence, they are basically the same quality gasoline. This is why you see similar prices all of the time.

And yes there is competition. This is why Chinese companies were able to buy American gasoline recently.

Anyways, the oil companies aren't making money through their refining right now anyways. The margins are very thin because oil has gone up tremendously while gas prices have lagged. If prices at the pump were directly correlated, they would be 15% higher than they are now.
