60,000 are being handed out - some of them are a joke. So the correct response is to write them all off?
Come on now....
The purpose of the medal is to "honour significant contributions and achievements by Canadians".
Do we honour those that serve with the sole intention to break apart Canada? Why yes, we do!
When you give the medal to every single Bloc MP, it tarnishes the value of the medal to those who actually are deserving.
Even better, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation has the ability to hand out the medals on their own, as well as lobbyists from the big banks and religious organizations such as Canadian Christian Association.
It's a "Participant" medal for adults. If you've done something remotely good for your community, regardless of your role and still alive, you're fit to be nominated.
I take that as yes...write them off.
Noted.
And you find it to have value...not sure why you feel that's worth being "noted" what others think, but whatever floats your boat.

I'm noting your conclusion, nothing more. Don't waste time reading anything more into it than that.

Just like when people say the Nobel Peace Prize is a joke because (insert whomever I think didn't deserve it) got it.
Yep. Obama got the Peace Prize therefore Pearson getting it was a joke.
Got it
Just like the UN was once relevant.....recently, not so much.

The logic of presented arguments would be that it was never relevant then.
Like the League of Nations?

I would submit they had their uses but they were too unwieldy to keep pace with events.
Sigh...

Justin Bieber explains why he wore overalls to meet Stephen Harper
$1:
“I walked straight from my meet and greet to him,” Bieber wrote. “If you ‘Hayley’ expect me to have a change of clothes let a loan (sic) a suit at that specific time that’s crazy, It wasn’t like it was like I was going into his environment we were at a hockey arena.”

Well you answered your earlier question to me. (I've been out of town, and otherwise busy, so just getting back to this.)
If awarding some of these medals is a "joke" then I guess the recipients would be "patently undeserving".
Separatists, people with a criminal record, politicians, the "joke" group is large enough to detract from those who could be deserving of a little recognition.
The trouble with these medals is that there are too many of them, and it's in the hands of politicians to hand them out. It is a currency that's debased.
Hence my earlier comment about Mr. Bean giving his medal to Teddy.

Odd of you not to blame Harper for Justin's outfit.
Surely you could be like the rest of the lefties and blame Harper for visiting him at an arena and not having him at the formal ceremony.

I missed your answer here. Do we write off all 60,000 because we determine some of them are a joke?

Well, I did write:
"Separatists, people with a criminal record, politicians, the "joke" group is large enough to detract from those who could be deserving of a little recognition."
I think that suggests that the award is tarnished by being given to clearly undeserving recipients, but it
doesn't suggest that there aren't some deserving recipients.
60,000 medals. In my town of 50,000 there should be about 88 of these medals floating around. I wonder if our local paper will even publish a list of who and why. I wonder whether such a list will be available
anywhere.
It seems like such a "shotgun" recognition.
That there are a number of things that detract from its worth doesn't mean that worthy people don't exist though.
