Another product of the behavioural interview process. I bet he aced his panel interview. Him being a chaplain is the best preparation for operational command eh?

Lions led by donkeys again. At least this donkey can pray.

I pray, too. Just saying.

I know mate! I don't see anything wrong with praying. I just don't think being so vocal about it is such a good thing for a person leading a police service or any large, non-religious organisation. I think it speaks volumes about this guys lack of ability to lead a diverse group of people on a common mission.

How so? You really think he just defined his leadership ability because he mentioned something as mundane as prayer?

Nelson and Brock were all for prayer and I thought they did alright, no?

People in a leadership role should remember that they are there to lead us all, not just those who pray. This just says that the secular types aren't part of the new command clique.

So the atheist leader who doesn't mention prayer - he's leading all and not just those who don't pray?

Really...

That makes you little better than a leper here.

Honestly, the emotional shitstorm people get themselves into when somebody suggests something as harmless as prayer simply confounds me.

But I guess you gotta have something to get angry about.

Here's the difference. When a family says they are going to pray for Uncle Bob who's dying of cancer it's fine. Whatever helps them. When Uncle Bob's doctor says he's going to pray for Uncle Bob as part of his treatment, I'd be a little nervous.

Different times Gunny. I'm all for giving the Chaplain some space to do his god-bothering. I just don't think the Chief should be vocal about being religious or secular. He should shut the fuck up on religion and lead.

That's silly. If that is the only thing the Dr was going to do then your point has validity. If he does exactly the same thing as the atheist Dr then you're just being bigoted.

Really. You're surely not saying that every leader now has to run off a list, are you? By not saying anything, he's leaving it up to the individual. That's what a secular state means. Leave beliefs out of it.

As for the doctor praying for uncle Bob. Doubt the Christian relatives would be too happy if he said he would pray to the Goddess, say. If they're all of the same religion, they can all pray together. If not, just shut up about it. Or if uncle Bob and family were a strong atheist. Doubt if the family would be too thrilled with the offer of prayer. See how it works?

Yeah we like our leaders grey these days.

Religion just muddies the message. Too controversial and divisive. Him not sussing that out shows me he’s a bit of a dummy. Reminds me of John Tory’s epic fail.

Praying to an imaginary God will not reduce crime, nor will it cure Uncle Bobs cancer. If they believe it will they can do that privately. It's not acceptable to have that as your strategy to reduce crime or cancer.

In your rather blind hatred you seem to be purposely missing they key point that it is not a strategy.

I get it, you don't like religion or people who don't hide it from you.

Should gay people hide their gayness as well so people don't feel uncomfortable?

Yeah . As I've pointed out, homosexuality is divisive as too.

That needs to be avoided as well.

LOL, I was wondering how long it would take for this. I have no hatred for religion or religious people. I find religion silly considering all the evidence against it, but I have friends that are religious and I like them just the same. Are you really trying to make me look like a bigot by throwing some irrelevant gay reference into the conversation? I doubt a gay person will ever come up to me and tell me smoking pole will reduce crime.

Ouch. It could actually - keep people too busy to do crimes. I've always thought we should have a movement to get girls/women to not go for the gangstas. Reduce crime drastically. Unfortunately, many of them do seem to like the bad boys.

Nothing wrong with the doctor praying by herself. Nothing wrong, if family and doc are all on the same page of praying together. But, the doc doesn't know where the family is at, so he's being presumptuous if he tells them he will pray, or that they should pray or what have you.
