That's because everybody can think nice thoughts. Not everybody prays.

I know. It's essentially positive thinking but when that 'P' word gets slid in there then it's

I must say I always get a kick out of how one little word redefines a positive action into something just above the zombie apocalypse.

When I would say "sure, I will!" I will be called a liar and a hypocrite.

The Chaplain can say it. The Chief cannot.

You know your desperate and wrong as police cheif when. Hey buddy check your chair you may notice it's a public chair.

$1:
"My faith is foundational to everything that I do," (Chief Clunis) said.

It's a public chair that's currently occupied by someone who believes in prayer. Unless your plan is to prohibit people of faith from serving in government then you have to accept that they come to their jobs with their faith.

By this kind of logic if a police chief took psychics on to the force to help solve crimes because he had a "firm faith in the abilities of the paranormal investigator" it would simply come with who hold the position.

I have no plans in any way to act against someone from holding a chair simply because they have faith but I firmly beleive that it is every citizens duty to speak out when they see total woo being used as policy in any way.

He can practice his faith at home or church. When he's at work he needs to keep his religion to himself.

I wonder what people would say if this police chief was Muslim, and told everyone to pray to Allah?

Agreed, hopefully we'll see something better in terms of a real policy.

Or maybe Curt will like church, praying for legalization.

We should be thankful that we all live in a country where we can enjoy our freedoms. One of those freedoms is "Freedom of Religion".

Sure. In your own time.

Tell it to this guy and let us all know how that works out for you...

I doubt this guy is advocating we pray to his God to reduce crime. If the Winnipeg police chief wants to wear a turban he's welcome to do it.

It would cut down on the glare at least. ;)

exactly Martin. People are always free to have whatever faith they wish but freedom of religion has never been about forcing others to listen to or endorse your crap. Sadly I think in today's world there are more and more people who are pushing for it to mean just that.

I want a world where as many people who want can wear any color turban or any style turban they wish but don't advocate turban use from pubic office.

Benn @ Tue Oct 23, 2012 10:51 pm

So if you don't want to pray (in whatever religion you are part of) then do what prayer really is, showing you care. Care for your neighbors, what a crazy concept!

I have no issues with him expressing his beliefs like this. Move towards forcing them on others and things get sticky.

One thing's for sure, the guy's got conviction and balls. Great things for a Police Chief.

I sure hope he has a backup plan when talking to an imaginary God doesn't clear up that crime.
