Expecially for this political crap, we need an impartial investigation.

What do you thinks going to happen with Chretien's lawsuit? It's going to be a major goat rodeo and the longer you've been in power, the more ammunition will be available.

What happens to chretiens is his problem. He still saved us from bankruptcy and deserves credit for that.

The reality remains. If you believe in innocent until proven guilty then you agree with me.

This Zeisman thing really points out the difference between the liberals and the conservatives:
Liberals = institutionalized fraud
Conservatives = freelance fraud

I've been aware of this wingnut for a while. It was just a matter of time before this guy train-wrecked. All I can say is it's a good thing he did so before being elected.

At border points across the nation, moms, dads, grandmas and grandpas "smuggle booze" every bloody day. Zeisman went a tad overboard on the amounts, but I guarantee that countless Liberal supporters, just like a very large percentage of Canadians in general, smuggle booze, undeclared jewellry from Asia and it goes on and on. I'll even bet that Paul "just call me god" Martin has been recipient to some goodies of one type or another that arrived on one of his ships. Seems entirely likely.
Regardless, this type of infraction cannot possibly compare to criminal acts whilst governing a nation

TheGup @ Thu Jan 12, 2006 8:39 pm

I can't believe that a guy like this could be accepted by the Conservative Party of Canada. Even if he did not tell the Conservative Party that he was being criminally charged, they should have looked further into it.

Hopefully this is the last nasty surprise for the Conservatives this election. I somehow doubt that it is, though.

ahhh bottle runs. When I was in UVic, we used to cruise to Bellingham and occasionally Port Angeles on weekends to load up on cheap booze. it got to the point where taking the ferry and driving was just as expensive as taking your own boat, but at least you didn't have to worry about hotels. While I was in U of M we'd head to Cavalier, ND or if it was a long weekend to GrandForks.

Quite rightly, Stephen Harper announced today that this fucking Ziesman clown will not, under any cirucumstances, represent the Conservative Party of Canada in parliament regardless of the outcome of the election.

Interestingly enough, Paul Martin was asked about the controversry during a press conference early this morning. He replied that it was the first he'd heard about it, and had no comment. About an hour later, Harper announced he was kicking this fuckng nutcase Zeisman loose.

I think this demonstrates just how fucking pathetic the Martin war room is this election. They should have updated Martin on this breaking story first thing in the morning. Instead, they missed the boat completely.

This was a case that was tailor made for Martin to harp on, but his people didn't keep him up to date and the result was Harper beat him to the punch, cut the fucker loose (quite rightly) and neutralized any Liberal attacks that could have resulted from it.

Watching the Liberals struggle this election is more fun than any former Paratrooper should ever be allowed to have!

Interesting. Several Cons here have stated it's a non-issue... yet you think Martin should have been briefed about it?

Harper did the right thing. Zeisman didn't. For those who see smuggling as a minor issue since it's apparently something we all do...

Do you apply the same logic to evey law? Lots of us are willing to pay/be paid under the table to save some tax... should our MPs do the same thing?

How many people pad their expense accounts? Are you the same ones who condemn the pols for it? But but... lots of people do it.....

Morals appear to be relative... I guess it all depends on who it involves.

I was the so-called "Con" who felt Martin should have been briefed about it Lily. But I never said it was a "non-issue."

In fact, what I said early today before it became a full thread was:

It looks like somebody in the Conservative HQ failed to do their homework on this Zeisman clown.

It's probably a bit late to boot him from the party this late in the election. I hope people in that riding are smart enough to vote against him. If by some chance he wins on the 23rd, Harper should boot him out of the party as soon as he's convicted and let him sit as an independent.

Sorry if that opinion doesn't fit into your preconconcieved stereotype of "Cons" but most of us would rather give up a seat than turn it over to a corrupt prick.

Keep voting Liberal though Lily. I'm sure there's plenty of smugglers in that party to keep your cynicism alive.

Motorcycleboy @ Thu Jan 12, 2006 10:48 pm

While we're on the subject Lily, did you notice what Stephen Harper did today when he got wind of a possible corrupt candidate in his party?

He fired the guy.

Maybe the Liberals could consider doing the same thing.

In Canada.

Yeah. Maybe they could.

I'm serious.

How many Liberal candidates are up on criminal charges MCB?

That's right, none.

I'm sure that the Liberals would do the same thing if one of their candidates were to have actually been charged with committing a criminal offence.
